  1. it's on one of the LPs scanned above, I will try to find it again
  2. i have a random question based on one of those jackets. That Soul Incorporated "What goes up must come down" was really only released as Soul Inc. on Emblem, and never came out as "Soul Incorporated" on a "Boo" label, correct? Was this LP the source of the information (or if wrong, misinformation)? Thanks in advance.
  3. the brenda lee eager is pseudo in demand now because people started playing it after fonce mizell passed. Still only like a $50 record. Thanks for listening to my show and the positive comments, i really appreciate it.
  4. Hi. I did a pretty cool music show today; the first half hour of the show is male and female 60s Motown while the rest of the show has a ‘70s-’80s rare groove feel. I especially like the Miller, Miller, Miller & Sloan track -- a super catchy boogie track from 1980 with fantastic harmonies by a kiddie family band who definitely don’t have the look of an R&B group. I can't stop listening to it... Anyways, you can check out the show at: https://www.sittinginthepark.com/9-8-2013.mp3? You can listen to other shows and interviews with Chicago groups by going to my main page www.sittinginthepark.com Also, if someone you know wants to subscribe to this email list, they can add themselves at the following URL: https://eepurl.com/n7Qr5 Playlist follows and I hope you enjoy the show. Mary Wells - You lost the sweetest boy - Motown Yvonne and the Violets - Cross my heart - Barry Supremes - Let me go the right way - Motown Stylettes - Packing up my memories Tommy Good - Baby I miss you - Gordy Spinners - Truly yours - Motown Melvin Davis - Faith - Mala Kenny Carter - I’ve got to get myself together - RCA Edd Henry and the Nickels and Three Pennies - I love only you - Nu-Sound Lou Courtney - What do you want me to do - Rags Dee Edwards - I can deal with that - De-To William Ferguson - Black gold - AMG Barbara Mason - Out of this world - Buddah Latimore - Long distance love - Glades Miller, Miller, Miller & Sloan - Key to my heart - Meaningful Don Downing - Dr. Boogie - Rs International Jay Harmon - Now it’s you and me - Cleveland Unlimited Brenda Lee Eager - When I’m with you - Mercury Marshall, Donovan, and Broomfield - That’s love - Augusta Platinum Hook - I don’t want to live without you - RCA New Horizons - I’d love to spend the night - Columbia Krossfyre - Leading lady - Fuse-1 Thai - Asking - Silva Bullit thanks, Bob
  5. there's actually an (uncredited) cover of "girls in the city" by a late 70s LA group called the Night Riders on the Eclipse label. I think they shouldn't have touched something that wasn't broken though...
  6. I don't know the record but "first I look at the purse" is obviously a cover of the contours, right? White Plains is a pretty White city.
  7. no it's the same guy. your theory that he went out to LA makes sense.
  8. cool promo letter, do you have the photo mentioned?
  9. This is an interesting subject for me, as to what I want and don't want on labels. I've even erased artist signatures on labels before because they were ugly, but sometimes a really long dedication from the artist to someone is really cool. I usually remove promoter stickers unless they are famous promoters.
  10. I'm surprised that I can't find a complete discography of prince phillip mitchell on the web -- e.g. there's not one on John Ridley's site. There is a random one here, that even includes one of the checkmates 45s on halt: https://www.soulcellar.co.uk/phillip/PhillipMitchellDiscography.html Is there a complete one somewhere? Also, can someone tell me if this specifically is phillip mitchell: https://www.ebay.com/itm/HEAR-IT-RARE-SOUL-Prince-Phillip-Lollipop-101-What-cha-Gonna-Do-Now-/360676074700 The backing singers sound white at least. Thanks in advance.
  11. Richard Parker was always Chicago based as far as I know. Besides writing and producing a lot of stuff (mainly early '60s), he was half of the Dutones on Columbia (the other half was Jerry Brown aka Jerry Townes).
  12. I think those are the only 3 records on the label, but it's the same label as down to earth which obviously had more good records
  13. was it at least 3 guys singing? i just bought a copy if you don't have audio, will find out.
  14. I gave them a copy of that record. They rescheduled the interview to some time in October. I give anyone I interview a copy of their record if it's worth less than like $100.
  15. that esquires record is one of the greatest records of all time
  16. jimmy hudson super cheap
  17. interesting thread that hits close to home for me at least. one thing that I think is interesting about soul 45 collecting vs. any other type of collecting, even soul LP record collecting, is that somehow it's been established that it's normal for regular people to drop $200+ or even 4 figures on a single piece of vinyl. By "regular people" I mean people who have other expenses that are nowhere near that and could buy a nice home entertainment system or a new washer and dryer or something much more tangible and practical for that price. And I'm not talking about people with huge collections who already have all the $25 records, but people who have a relatively small collection. How does someone come to that? tons of threads about OVO? peer pressure? another thing is that the lust for expensive vinyl drives some otherwise normal people to do some nasty things...
  18. weird that it got picked up in canada by columbia, did they do other nola records of the era?
  19. great playlist
  20. he worked with one of the members loretta stokes
  21. i've never seen this with this label design, it's usually on a black label with a logo on top
  22. matrix numbers don't lie. Thanks a lot.
  23. I'm pretty sure I have a copy but have to look, PM me if you still need it
  24. I'm pretty sure the part iii record was first. The lovations were from Pittsburgh. All the people on the Part III record are Pittsburgh dudes. they got the record picked up on Cap City afterwards and Cap City released their subsequent records. Additionally, in soul harmony singles we have it as one year earlier, not two years later, and most of the dates in the book are pretty on. What is your source for two years later? And why would they just reissue that one single?
