  1. are you saying that styrene noise can just be EQed out even though it's broad spectrum hiss? or are you saying that the needle rides a certain way that works well on styrene (which I would understand, but then I don't understand the reference to an "inbuilt frequency curve").
  2. the varios
  3. that record is definitely from '66, the a-side, "where will you be boy", is about vietnam. it's likely old label blanks they used.
  4. the facebook link doesn't work unfortunately...
  5. Passion on mother earth and the Passionettes on Soul Burst are both philly records so are probably the same group as listed in the soul harmony singles book. They list the path group together with that group, but I'm not sure why, I don't think there are common names but I have to look at the path record again to check. The Uni record is probably some other unrelated group or at least is bizarre since it is a Tammy Wynette cover.
  6. the problem is that a lot of new old store stock is NOT mint, and it's only apparent after you clean it. If they're sitting around in boxes, they can get tiny scuffs, etc. or if they are from a place where other people have been through them, taken them out of the sleeve, etc. I don't know if the buyer in this case was complaining about the film or if they had cleaned it, but in my case, i always clean the records.
  7. very invictus sounding
  8. I think this is one of the clips Pete S had up before his account was taken down, fortunately someone reuploaded it:
  9. there is some connection but I'm pretty sure the group did not include any members of the specials, they just went to the same high school (Harlan) and the specials had involvement in releasing it. The specials did evolve into the Force of Habit on Dagger though.
  10. I guess I and he had some connotation with "reissue" that there would be licensing or something.
  11. i guess technically he's right that his lovingly prepared bootleg is not a reissue
  12. there are two ultimates LPs, one one graham, one on TSG, they are both issued in the late 70s on tax writeoff labels, I don't think they were issued to make any money or for the UK market.
  13. showdown is uptempo but has nice harmony and the flip is weird but sort of sweet
  14. metros on 1-2-3 are not the same group, they were a band, not a vocal group, and probably from georgia.
  15. check it out
  16. it went to the US
  17. thanks for the replies so far. At least I know that the stock copies are rare if they exist (I also know the 12" version is longer I think). Anyone know for sure that they definitely don't? Does the 12" have anything different on the flip? Thanks a lot.
  18. Hi. Today on my radio show I interviewed Bert Bowen, an original member of the Chanteurs and the Presidents, the group that evolved into the Chilites. Bert grew up on the South Side of Chicago in the Woodlawn neighborhood. He formed a group called the Five Wrens in grammar school (along with future Chanteur / Chilite Eugene Record) after running into some kids and joining them "doowopping" near Washington Park. Although they were only 12 and 13 years old, the Five Wrens got a manager and did a professional show at the Trianon Ballroom at 62nd and Cottage Grove. After about a year the Five Wrens broke up and a new group, the Chanteurs, formed out of other members who sang near Washington Park. The Chanteurs included Eugene Record and Bert Bowen, along with Robert Earl Lester ("Squirrel"), Clarence Johnson, and Eddie Reed. The Chanteurs performed regularly around the South Side. The Chanteurs also had a rival group, the Desideros (which included Eddie Sullivan and future Chilites Marshall Thompson and Creadel Jones) that they regularly battled around the corner of 65th and Woodlawn. After singing together for 4-5 years, the Chanteurs eventually got together with manager Leo Austell. Bert had been in and out of the group several times and Austell sought out a more permenent member to replace Bowen. Austell brought in Sollie McElroy (previously of the Flamingos and Moroccos) to sing lead with the group and recorded "Wishing well" / "New rocking baby" which was released on the Lasalle record label in 1961. Another Chanteurs record, "I do what you want me to do", was cut and acetates of the record exist but it's not clear whether it was actually pressed. Sollie stayed with the group only for about a year before Bert rejoined. The group changed their name to the Presidents after Bert rejoined and recorded a record on Mercury -- "Pots and Pans" / "The Toast". The record received some local play and the group even did a promotional show with other bigger Mercury artists. Unfortunately the record failed to break nationally. Bert left the group to focus on his career and raising his family. The Presidents changed their name back to the Chanteurs and had their biggest hit with "Grizzly Bear". The Chanteurs eventually broke up and members joined members of the Desideros to form the Hi-Lites who eventually became the Chi-Lites. You can check out the interview at the bottom of my interviews page at: https://www.sittinginthepark.com/interviews.html thanks for your interest, Bob
  19. Hi. can anyone tell me if this 45 exists as a stock copy ("issue copy") with a different b-side (or instrumental b-side)? Thanks in advance.
  20. you were supposed to respond with a scan and audio of the dreams and then pm me with one for sale cheap...
  21. bizarre! I will try to figure out what it is. Thanks a lot.
  22. i have never heard it, seen it, or anything, that's what I'm trying to find out. I would love to hear it or see a label scan. I've heard and seen everything else on the label. Thanks in advance for any info.
  23. Thanks for responding. The dreams record is "Young man" / "Silent Gossip". The soul harmony singles book even lists it as a female group, I guess that means someone owned it to hear it? What does your CODs play?
  24. sorry to keep responding to this thread, but I was putting away the record and saw that 1008 was not "summertime was here" it was "D&D" and I just wanted to correct it so that this thread had the full, correct discography. here it is: 0001 Ultimate Ovation "Hello Baby" / "Chameleon Man" (first released as Aquarius 0004) 0002 Ultimate Ovation - Mountain of love / Deep down in my heart 0003 Ultimate Ovation "Come To The Front" / "Mountain Of Love" 1004 Ultimate Ovation "Showdown" / "Black" 1005 Ali & Aliyah - Come to the front / pt. 2 1006 Ultimate Ovation with Ali and Aaliyah "If Living This Way" / inst 1007 Kush "Summertime Is Here" / inst 1008 Kush "D&D" / Inst
  25. I asked this a couple of times before, but has anyone ever seen or heard this record? I have asked some big collectors and looked through some big chicago collector's collections and it's always been no. I'm wondering how this number got onto the discographies? I can't imagine what an official kellmac label discography with this record would have come from if this record doesn't exist, unless maybe it was from an official onederful discography that was released (since they were distributed by onederful I think and Dave Rimmer made some reference before to Onederful releasing an official discography)? Thanks in advance for any info. p.s. apparently the rainbows on m-pac does exist, according to a collector I talked to (in reference to a previous thread).
