  1. awesome first post
  2. Can anyone help me with audio of this for Bobby Brinkley? I'm making him a CD. Apparently it's the ORIGINAL version of the song. I could also use the other side of the record too but it's on youtube so I can get low quality audio of it at least. Apparently the squires were a white band that didn't sing, the Paramount Four are the vocal group on the Bobby Brinkley and the Squires record. Thanks in advance.
  3. yeah, someone finally tracked down berry gordy
  4. aren't you agreeing with me about which is better? anyways, the lead of the tempos is singing flat through the whole track. i like the tempos' other records though.
  5. I disagree, the tempos version is terrible compared to the steptones, they are singing way out of tune and it is barely listenable. Just my opinion.
  6. sort of related, there is an LA dramatics bootleg on the "Blackjack" label that I've seen sell for $50+ a few times on ebay. I think people tend to see small labels and think "it must be the original label" but this was several years after they were already on volt, totally stupid.
  7. I can't figure out this label, but everything on it appears to be a reissue of something else. For example, I have johnny sayles' chess release on this label. I can't figure out if it was legit or not and who the market was and when they were done.
  8. cooperettes is philly not chicago, by the way
  9. it's a straight bootleg and the writer's name is spelled differently than the original
  10. i'm in the US so can't tell you about UK play, but the chamus record had some sales interest and spiked in value a few years ago.
  11. Sorry, thanks for the correction.
  12. no, the note group is from atlanta, the mandingo group is from toledo, no connection. i think there's a photo of the note group on the numero group tragar comp, I don't remember (they did get a photo though).
  13. there was a problem with the link, I just fixed it. Thanks.
  14. Hi. Today I did an interesting interview with singer Rufus Wonder, who cut a record with a group called the Additions that was released in Detroit in 1966. He and the group also backed Carl Carlton on an early record. Rufus had an interesting career that crossed many cities, including Chicago, Detroit, Los Angeles, the Bay Area, etc. Check it out at my interviews page at: https://www.sittingin...interviews.html thanks, Bob
  15. thanks as always for listening.
  16. that only worked because he kept his account open, if he closed out his account paypal wouldn't have given you anything.
  17. isn't the group from Toledo, not Detroit, and related to the magnificent opinions on Skippyophonic (who recorded in the 80s)?
  18. I was waiting for the train (downtown chicago) the other day and there were 3 kids (oldest one must have been about 14, youngest one was like maybe 9) doing a temptations thing, their parents were there with them. The biggest kid was doing david ruffin and he was pretty good, the other two kids couldn't sing (one was doing eddie kendricks' part and was okay, the other was too young and couldn't sing at all) but it was still awesome, they were dressed up and doing steps and stuff. usually it's the same 3 guys singing the same sam cooke songs so this was a nice change.

  20. you live in a much groovier apartment than I do
  21. both sellers are in Rochester, NY, this guy was obviously shilling for the other guy, or IS the other guy.
  22. No, the Black Gold group was Detroit group that cut a lot of records on different labels. There was a long article about them in There's that beat. This group was just a one-off Chicago record and, according to Mill Edwards, was just the Sheppards. Thanks.
  23. it looks like it was ended early. someone must have made the seller an offer (probably low relatively to the real value) and s/he bit.
  24. Brainstorm was a Leo Austell label from Chicago. The Dynamics on Brainstorm are actually just the Sheppards under a different name.
  25. I would have said "elmer's school glue" but I didn't know if that was a known thing in the UK so I just said "wood glue". I swear it says "wood glue" on it though. I was talking about wet playing it with glass cleaner, by the way, not just cleaning it with glass cleaner.
