  1. now that it's a northern play and not been on ebay since, I doubt it would sell for less than $500 and maybe closer to $1000 in a private sale. in 2002 prices were much lower, even on demand northern items, and obscuro items were not valued highly. look at manship's first guide, very thin and i would be glad to pay a lot of the prices in it now.
  2. i think I was the second bidder on a copy on ebay around 2002, lost it for $78. It might have been that copy. I seriously doubt it sold for $600 for a VG copy in 2002, it was not an indemand northern record, did not have the right type of sound at the time and it was not "known". Sweet side is killer but sweet soul was not selling for that much.
  3. i know some group collectors that have it and my friend had it and sold it to Michael R. in new york. I've had a few twinight copies on stock and one on a white label promo, my current copy is a stock copy. I still don't have it on orr.
  4. is this true? chris james didn't mention it, maybe he didn't remember or it was before he joined?
  5. it's actually even rarer as the mystics on orr
  6. yeah, but I didn't know it 20 years ago... I can't front, didn't have this record until '95. 20 years ago the only rap album i had was like apocalypse '91.
  7. hey kev, I finally talked to one of the salvadors. they were a st. louis group, not chicago apparently. only two of the four members are still around.
  8. i don't recognize it but i just got vicki anderson "land of milk and honey" for $8 on ebay which was cool, have pretty much all her other singles but not that one for some reason, despite knowing it via main source for like 15 years

  10. I buy from him all the time and I have never had a problem returning anything and he is a conservative grader and I don't think he's the person running the auctions. But what I reported was true. He currently has it in stock explicitly listed as "2nd pressing" so maybe someone convinced him as otherwise since but if you find the auction in popsike all it says is "keb darge spin". I'm pretty sure I even got a response confirming that it was the 80s style press (I can try to find the email). He also sold the mixed emotions recent repress as an "80s press" and got money for that too. I don't think it's intentional fraud but the person doing the auctions is not knowledgable. I have one other bad experience but I'll keep it to myself.
  11. He had up the 2nd press of the rappers on roach, I emailed them early in the auction to make them aware of it, they did not revise the listing in any way and it went for way too much money.
  12. the group has 8 different musicor 45s by the way so I'm not sure which one you're referring to.
  13. It's not rare on federal, I'm not sure if I've seen it on dimension.
  14. after reading the wikipedia article I think it's unlikely it's the same person. I always assumed the lock singer was from chicago and related to Johnny Cameron. The record is from Chicago at the minimum. The bio makes no link to Chicago. However, the singer on the lock 45 is clearly very young so the age doesn't rule her out.
  15. Thanks for the clarification. Do you know if this Dick Whittingham is the same guy as on paramount by the way? Thanks.
  16. the wasters are NOT the green berets. they are the same group as the dynamic heartbeats on ps and ralph and the wasters on emase.
  17. this record got played in the US. j/g repressed common barbara mason singles, etc. for the US market. it wouldn't necessarily have to be for the island market.
  18. I don't think the dick whittington's cats round is the same round label as in the listings, I think it's detroit and the BW Souls round is LA. The numbers don't line up either. Anyone feel free to correct me though.
  19. there could have been an 80s jamie / guyden repress, they repressed lots of the hits on the label. the repress would be styrene and have a lighter colored label with a slightly smaller font.
  20. at least $300 for a mint copy I would think
  21. I'm pretty sure they were not related to the chicago group on wise world / yan-g
  22. the other one is much rarer, I'm not sure if I've ever seen it (if I have it must have only been once). I've seen twistin '62 occasionally and have a copy.
  23. there was a 90s comp series on rhino called "in yo face" that had a pic of a woman with an afro on each CD. download those and buy the 45s off of them from 10cent bins or lots on ebay. they're all hit funk 45s that everyone will recognize.
  24. thanks, I was going by what Bobby told me (he had a whole story about the studio musicians, etc.).
  25. Mel didn't join until the Dispo 45, you can hear him sing at the end of "little golden band".
