  1. the only other one i know about was the one that someone tried to auction just after it was uncovered, it didn't meet their reserve, then they had manship auction it. either way, if there were more, 2 or 4 on ebay, it's pretty rare since it's been uncovered for a while and has rarely appeared on ebay. given how few soul records are from west virginia, i imagine dealers there are aware of the record.
  2. definitely not after the record was uncovered. i was the second bidder on the one butch won originally.
  3. it's a five stairsteps cover not credited correctly.
  4. i think it's much harder to identify a 45 "tax scam label" as there were so many tiny labels, who knows what the motivations of the owners were. probably most legitimate labels were tax losses. also, 45 labels don't make as much sense for "tax scam" because the whole point is to pretend to lose as much money as possible. If you get ahold of some random old tapes and release an LP's worth, you can claim all sorts of studio time and other costs for all the songs on the LP, press it up, instantly cut it out, and get the loss. a 45 doesn't have as much loss. I've read that article before, i think the dellwood inclusion is just sort of random. either way, the acid archives has a whole section on tax scam labels.
  5. my neighbor's dog definitely didn't know
  6. i think this is the first copy sold on ebay since it was uncovered (since it was on ebay before butch was playing), one person had tried to sell it but it didn't meet his reserve. https://www.ebay.com/itm/231065545378?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649 the record must be truly rare given that none have gone through in years and people have known its value. i didn't want to post a link the auction when it was live (I hate that) and ruin it for someone. just pointing this out.
  7. are you sure you got this one and not his other formula 45?
  8. i got that weird ITP CD when it came out, did they purchase the renfro catalog outright at the time?
  9. i have an almost unplayed vinyl copy. i need to replace my grado stylus though if you need a recording. never seen styrene on this.
  10. in USPS terms, delivery confirmation and signature confirmation are different things. delivery confirmation means that the postal carrier scanned the package at the destination. signature confirmation means someone actually signed for it. yes, something might be confirmed delivered and the carrier could have thrown it in a river, a neighbor stolen it, or it gotten to the wrong house, but that's what the cheaper service of delivery confirmation offers, at least some indication that it got to the destination.
  11. the only time i've gotten records sent to me usps or fedex from us sellers is when the sellers worked in a mail room or had access to a mail room and were scamming their jobs.
  12. first class international officially has delivery confirmation to the UK and 12 other countries as of 7/29/2013. That is the service that costs $12.50 retail. There is no other cheaper USPS option to the UK. The next step up, global priority, is $25 if you print online and use a flat rate box. UPS or Fedex literally cost close to ~$100 if you don't have higher volume account with them.
  13. they aren't really popping up in the states (the whole reason this topic exists is that they aren't common) and there are tons of bootlegs from there that stay local. I'm sure that that DHC label is a dutch deep soul bootleg label. right now there is a seller in dubai selling a huge 70s dutch deep soul collection that has tons of weird boots of records that i've never seen. either way, I agree it could be from the states, i'm not sure. i'm sure it's a bootleg label though.
  14. i still say dau is a dutch bootleg label
  15. most copies of this are mint stock
  16. sorry, i guess other people did know what you were talking about.
  17. you should probably note that you're looking for "touching is my thing" since there are a bunch of george smallwood releases
  18. the honey bees is a hidden gem that i've played and talked about for a while. i'm not a tastemaker though...
  19. i don't think anyone knows what record you're talking about. are you talking about the impressions "choice of colors" as initially released? I don't hear those lyrics or know what you're talking about if you are. if you aren't, can you clarify?
  20. most dewarping machines don't work that well on 7"s. brad specializes in 7"s so he has more experience on what to do. you can actually make a record less playable by flattening it as the grooves are distorted once the record is warped. when you flatten it you don't un-distort the grooves. so instead of the needle just jerking up and down, it can have a much more pronounced jerk back-and-forth. so the record will be flat but won't be trackable as the needle will jerk back and forth too sharply, whereas before you could make it track with extra force when it was mostly going up and down. this most commonly happens with heat warps.
  21. i'm pretty sure there was not a doowop boot and that looks like a real copy
  22. i get a beatles vibe. as an american at least, this sounds very british to me.
  23. i swear i've seen another release on this label with a plain logo but i'm probably confused...
  24. yes, my post was clearly speculation. but it's pretty clear that he didn't come up with the label name in a vacuum and i was giving possible (speculative) scenarios as to how it might have happened.
  25. no way was the label name re-taken from the capital of senegal. the person pressing it obviously knew the tyrone davis label. it was a small custom chicago press by someone (probably walter davis himself -- was he related to carl) who wanted the record to look important or who got "permission" to use the label or something similar.
