  1. Some of my favorites on the label: Players - "He'll be back" (chitown, lead singer Herb Butler told me that Calvin Carter was working A&R for Minit at the time and got them on the label) Pacesetters - "What about me baby" (killer bay area sweet soul) Turnarounds - "I need your loving" (awesome sweet cut from LA) Younghearts - "I got love for my baby" and "sweet soul shaking" (more LA)
  2. does anybody own this 45? I'm trying to find out if it's rock or soul. It sounds like a rock group and there were some rock / pop groups with that name from around the same time (a 60s garage group on paris tower out of florida and an LA? pop group on 20th century in '73). I can't find any references to the record on the internet apart from discographies except for one site that does have it for sale in their soul section. Can anyone tell me what it sounds like? Thanks in advance.
  3. nobody knows?
  4. It is the same Gordon Keith. You can talk to him on facebook if you want. Steeltown actually had 5 different (partial) owners at different times. Maurice Rodgers, Gordon Keith, Lou Washington, William Spencer, and Ben Brown. By the end the label was ultimately only owned by Gordon Keith.
  5. Is anything known about this group? I'm wondering if they were somehow connected with the UK Foundations, as singer Colin Young apparently had a version of the group called the New Foundations in the 70s. The single was definitely recorded in the US, as George Kerr produced it. Both sides are written by A. Darling. I thought that if it is somehow connected to the UK group, someone here would know? Thanks in advance.
  6. More googling makes it seem like the group was from Newark, as it looks like Alvarez was from there and "newarkers" is in their name...
  7. Is anything actually known about the group the Nicky Newarkers? Are they from new york? are they connected to any other groups? Any members, etc.? Were they a hispanic group since they did a spanish version of one of their tracks? I see they were produced by Jesus Alvarez who was with turbo/stang, etc. Thanks in advance for any information.
  8. there is a scan with the "help wanted" side credited to huggy's ork above so I must be wrong
  9. Can anyone tell me if the Illusions on Showtime has vocals on it? Is "shake your mini" the same recording as the Showstoppers "shake your mini" on showtime? Does the funkey donkey side have vocals? Thanks in advance.
  10. I found the ebay auction and it's one artist on each side as you note. that must be it, there is probably only one press.
  11. one of the only album covers on my wall: the rest of my wall is covered with signed publicity photos though
  12. is the huggy's ork record the exact same recording as the mirettes?
  13. no you don't, unless you don't actually care about the visual condition of the vinyl
  14. I totally disagree with this. A "G" record can play mint, that doesn't make it mint. A photo of the label which may be clean (as in this case where it was specifically misleading) doesn't reveal the real condition of the vinyl. In fact, no photo can reveal the condition of the vinyl (you need to look at it closely in light to grade it) but some higher resolution ones can at least give you some idea.
  15. looks like he took out a new ebay ID: https://cgi.ebay.com/45-THE-MIRACLE-WALKERS-THE-SCAMM-1003-LOVE-MY-SOUL-/320696519481?pt=Music_on_Vinyl&hash=item4aab008b39#ht_2403wt_976
  16. plus you got your money back so you weren't totally burned
  17. man, i love ebay. i get so many great records off there for such great prices. if i had a kid i would name them ebay. but i definitely think everyone else should stay off...
  18. it's definitely the record you bought: https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280672260919&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT I guess it makes sense that there's no gloss and the seller was lying, I don't know how a glossy record could sound like that even if covered with deep scratches. I can't believe they graded it even higher when they sold it to you.
  19. yes, that's what he has the negative feedback from
  20. anything unusual in the decca deadwax that makes it look like deesu plates?
  21. Anyone seen the copy of demanding man on ebay that sold for $650? It was nuts, he had an audio clip and you could barely hear the music. I was thinking of bidding, thinking maybe it was dirty and I could get it to play better. I emailed the seller asking if it was dirty and he said that it was clean and that he cleaned it several times. The auction also said there was nice gloss. If a record that played that bad has nice gloss it has to be covered with deep scratches. Also, he has a negative feedback from an apparent previous listing of the record where he listed it as VG+ and the buyer said it was G-. It certainly sounds as bad or worse than any G- record I've heard. I don't understand what anyone buying it would think they could do with it, you can't DJ with that thing, it's not even an enjoyable home listen.
  22. thanks everyone for listening. I haven't done the itunes thing yet, the XML instructions weren't exactly straightfoward so I haven't looked into it. Will try to look into it this week. Thanks.
  23. I guess this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_Boxer But I don't know if it actually appears in the film. I've seen it but like 15 years ago and don't remember.
  24. I like picture us and great big liar. also, this one is amusing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FKPvnvtwgIM
  25. he had that 304 # listed above, the record he needs is 45-304 which is apparently part of a different deesu series
