  1. there is an unsold one on ebay, VG+ for $700, probably the one he was referring to
  2. Hi Jocko. I made the initial comparison between Ocean and "Lo" because they seem pretty similar to me. They both have deep, soulful voices, both made pop songs (in a very similar style actually) that crossed over to the pop market. It seems you are offended maybe because you think one is more talented than the other (not sure which one)? Or if not, what are the main differences between the two artists that you see? You're writing like it's totally obvious that they are different but it's not obvious to me at least. I'm not saying the same thing as Ian though because I don't think either act is appropriate for a "soul" event as they both are pop. Thanks a lot.
  3. also, here is the copyright entry for "flirting with other girls", another track Lucille White wrote: FLIRTING WITH OTHER GIRLS; w & m Luke Gross S Lucille White. 2 1. © Jobete Music Co. Inc.; lMay65; EP202256. I don't know a motown song with that title, maybe it didn't even get recorded.
  4. or the BMI record could be screwed up. Or it was recorded (maybe not released) on another artist Barnes produced and he took credit. what's weird about the BMI entry is that it says that the writer Lucille White is the same L White that wrote the final brighter side of darkness record "he made you mine"
  5. Those first two names are too generic to connect to anything for me. You're not thinking of Larry Reynolds (aka LJ Reynolds), are you? Lou Roberts was a recording artist. I can't think of a Larry Roberts. Bay Sound was a Baltimore label. It's probably not the same person, I'm guessing someone made an assumption due to having two "little nickys" but it's probably wrong.
  6. Robb, you are only able to edit your posts when you have enough post and are upgraded as a member from "mint minus" to "mint". not sure of the rationale, but that's why you weren't able to edit your post.
  7. I just re-read this thread. Everyone was making good points and there was reasonable discussion until it blew up. Why take what someone says on a messageboard personally?
  8. someone might want this buy-it-now, this seller is a fairly conservative grader and this is a reasonable price https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110715478515&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_500wt_673
  9. I have the four arts record (not the nicky soul record, which is much more expensive...). The four arts record is produced and written by L Roberts and arranged by richard tee
  10. I wasn't making fun of billy ocean, I was just making the point that Cee Lo and Billy Ocean are a much closer comparison that Cee Lo and "funky soul", Cee Lo and "northern soul", Cee Lo and "Modern Soul", etc. Both Cee Lo and Billy Ocean have deep soulful voices and achieved pop success making catchy pop songs. Would all the people who want to hear Cee Lo at their event also want to hear Billy Ocean? I did think it was funny that Cee Lo was wearing a Misfits shirt for like 2 episodes of the US tv show "the voice" (don't know if you get that over there). I don't think that adds to his "soul singer" credentials though.
  11. Cee Lo does have a nice voice. So does Billy Ocean.
  12. how has no one mentioned "strange feeling" and "sitting in the park" yet?
  13. jan bradley wrote that song
  14. you might have some luck with the rock/folk singles by posting at waxidermy.com
  15. please, if he was a "nice guy" he would admit his mistake (and not send lame lies via direct email) at least and not STEAL vince's 5 pounds.
  16. also, just to add info, they evolved out of the Vashonettes
  17. Robb (welcome to soul source), there is a nice group northern record by the Four Arts on Shee. It's Shee 100 - "Who do you think you are" / "Just one night". The members didn't include a nick or nicholas though, maybe they backed little nicky? Also, supposedly the four arts record also came out on the "cloverlay" label, I haven't seen it though.
  18. obviously stolen video but here in chicago, there are "JBs roller skaters" that skate to James Brown tracks, probably better than the people in that video
  19. Vince, you should stop sending him email messages directly (not through ebay). You can go through the customer support section and open up a case, if you don't find your specific situation you can call ebay customer support and explain the situation. You should end up getting your money back in paypal and hopefully action taken against him. Also, just to comment on him, what a wad. If he at least sent you a message that said "I'm not selling the item at this price, sorry" that would be one thing. But what's up with his lame lie responses directly to you saying that he's following ebay policy, etc., and he hasn't even refunded your money. What a total loser. Leave meaningful negative feedback, after he responds, make sure to leave a followup feedback.
  20. man, except for the dora hall, i don't understand how anyone could call this "not soul". it even looks like a pretty good comp (although probably a bootleg...). i don't understand why someone could start a "worst CD compilations" thread with this CD.
  21. this is the rarest commands record
  22. I just googled marion sodd, here is some member info if you care: https://www.facebook.com/topic.php?uid=51416099238&topic=13708 one of the mad songwriters was also gerald dickerson, of the creations / contributors of soul
  23. Marion Sodd isn't a "he", it was the name of a band
  24. I was the only bidder. Don't like the record though, needed it for the #.
  25. I think this is one of the ways to "polish" a record, which for me is a no-no (and which explains the "extremely shiny" look).
