  1. dot and kapp are pop labels, very little soul on either relative to the rest of the catalog
  2. this ends on sunday. this is only at $100 with no soul source bidders. this is a good record and is currently at a low price. the money you would pay would go to the philippines red cross to support victims. come on.
  3. there's a bunch of pop on all platinum related labels but the Humble Gathering on Stang is straight rock which is weird.
  4. this is amusingly stupid. one bid at $400? https://www.ebay.com/itm/NORTHERN-SOUL-THE-INSPIRATIONS-45-WHAT-AM-I-GONNA-DO-WITH-YOU-HEY-BABY-/141120283948?pt=Music_on_Vinyl&hash=item20db6ca52c because their starting bid is so low that they need to shill it? come on.
  5. b, you can post a divshare link
  6. I have a copy of the Executive Four on Exen up in a charity auction. If you don't know the record, it's got a nice '70s midtempo northern side and a killer sweet soul side. And it's rare. If you win it, you would just have to paypal money to the philippines red cross, show me proof, and i'd mail you the record. Here is a link to the auction: https://waxidermy.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=49412&start=0 you don't have to register on the website to bid, you can either pm me or email me at sitpsales@gmail.com and I'll post your bid under your initials. If you are a flaky buyer who backs out or doesn't immediately pay, please don't bid, as you wouldn't be screwing over a specific person but doing something much worse. Thanks for looking.
  7. will definitely check it out, is there a track list?
  8. here is a radio show I did of *good* christmas records: 12/27/2009 https://www.sittinginthepark.com/12-27-2009.mp3? Impressions wish you a merry Christmas - Curtom Honey and the Bees - Jing Jing a Ling - Chess C-Quents - All I want for Christmas is you - Captown Excaliburs - Peace on earth (goodwill to mankind) - Trent Town Horace Williams - I'm going Christmas Shopping - Magic City Nibbs - Spending Christmas day with you - Arc-lark Supremes - Children's Christmas Song - Motown Emotions - Black Christmas - Volt Blenders - You trimmed my Christmas Tree - Witch Orchids - Christmas is the time to be with your baby - Columbia Stridells - I remember Christmas - Yvette Poets - Merry Christmas Baby - Red Bird Ebonys - Christmas Just Ain't Christmas - Philadelphia International Ameriquette - Tell me tell me (on this Christmas Day) - Brou Larch Inds Gems - Love For Christmas - Chess Impressions - I'm coming home for Christmas Kissi Jacobs - Let it be him - Black Jack Jan Bradley - It's Christmas Time - Hootenanny Emotions - What do the lonely do? - Volt Manhattans - It's that time again - Carnival C-Quents - Merry Christmas Baby - Captown Excaliburs - Christmas Dreaming - Trent Town Playboys - The night before Christmas - Legato Impressions wish you a happy new year - Curtom Manhattans - All alone on new years eve - Carnival Emulations - My Christmas Tree - Emulate O'Jays - Christmas Just Ain't Christmas - Neptune
  9. the impressions actually (sort of) do a version of this song. It's on a curtom special products 45 (I think it's SP-3), it's the impressions wishing you a happy christmas. There's a recording of them singing the song in the background with an overdub of curtis, sam, and fred wishing you a merry christmas.
  10. in the US, "crossover" generally means an R&B track that crossed over to the pop market. I wouldn't deny that this is a track that crossed over to pop or is even a "pop" track. but it's still a soul track and still gets played on chicago r&b stations (ok Herb Kent's radio show). i don't see how that's different than dozens of motown songs like "get ready", that was Berry Gordy's entire goal in his productions. it's definitely not pure "pop" (e.g. not soulful at all) but I don't see why other people would get offended if someone views it that way, I can at least see where they're coming from even though I disagree.
  11. right hand in motion
  12. there are hundreds of one-offs (or "only one known copy" records) that you could call the "rarest" soul record. it has to be a one-off that there is already demand for or that people would get excited about.
  13. i have a weird actual custom press stax 45 which I've never seen before (it has no stax # but has the full label design), it's some weird catholic religious thing, have to find it.
  14. thank you for sharing some of your background, i appreciate it
  15. well it's going to another guy
  16. I'm not going to argue with you about taste, it's not going to go anywhere, both you and i are stubborn. But now I have a question -- are you saying you like rocksteady but aren't friends with actual Jamaican rocksteady fans? Just wondering.
  17. how can you like rocksteady and not even have the slightest appreciation for an excellent sweet soul record with that sound? why don't you ask a jamaican reggae dude which reforee cut he would prefer and see what he says.
  18. steve is right about the general meaning of the song (it's about a girl cheating) but the double entendre of "back field" meaning the woman's ass still applies. it doesn't mean she's shaking her ass, but he caught her, and her ass, with another dude
  19. this is amazing to listen to, thank you for posting. i think this has to be a songwriter demo to shop the song around and not an artist demo. that doesn't necessarily mean that the songwriter is singing on it.
  20. spice of life "I hear a melody" is a killer sweet soul record. sorry that you can't dance to it like a paul anka 45. here is a youtube clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KGaKjL-jEDU the chipmunks were more common and made more money for liberty than any soul 45. i wouldn't consider liberty a soul label.
  21. gene barge has spent way more time in chicago than va. super super nice guy.
  22. i'd be interested to know if the flip is different
  23. brave and extremely brave are chicago records. mostly rock on the label. this sugar has no connection to sugar on rocky road. there used to be some stock floating around of this, I think now you'd be lucky to get a copy for $75-$100.
  24. no connection. the note group was from atlanta. the mandingo group was from toledo. the mandingo group has connections to the magnificent opinions on skippyophonic.
  25. my friend asked them and they said they never heard of the carbon copies... bizarre.
