  1. i love how he says manship verified they're originals
  2. yes, it's instrumental, it was on ebay like a week ago
  3. p-vine legitimately reissued the newsounds LP. I don't think it was on CD though.
  4. Hey Paul, can you PM me your email address? Thanks in advance.
  5. I've seen that label on other sandman 45s but never on the mitchell, cool to see
  6. Isn't Bobby Williams on this label?
  7. every time i find this record it's on black beauty (which I think is the first label) and it's cracked for some reason. The mod-art press is rarer in my experience but I think it's the second label.
  8. i actually took my scanner somewhere today and now i can't get it to work. i will try to take a picture with my phone if I can. thanks.
  9. I have the lions, will try to scan it when i'm home later
  10. I doubt there's a 100-103 given that there's a 1, 2, and 3. They probably switched to a new numbering system at that point. I can't explain the anomaly of the "5" listing for the furys though.
  11. Hi. Yesterday on my radio show I interviewed one of my all-time favorite Chicago groups The Ledgends. The Ledgends had a local hit with their cut "Something to remember you by" but all the sides they recorded that were released were excellent. You can listen to the interview at the bottom of my interviews page at: https://www.sittinginthepark.com/interviews.html thanks again for your interest, Bob
  12. just guessing, maybe the third one is maxine brown "it's gonna be allright"
  13. Curtis produced a lot of groups. He wasn't just a musician, songwriter, and singer; he was a record producer trying to get hits. A lot of the tracks that the Impressions did were first done by other groups. If Curtis had intended it to be mainly an impressions track he would have released it as a single.
  14. Sure. I was partly pointing out that the Windy C records are the best Stairsteps records. I'm assuming you know them. Thanks.
  15. thanks for posting this, this is pretty nice. I think it would sound a little better if it were a little slower, but that also might make it sound more like modern R&B. Not trying to derail your thread but given that you're talking about new soul/funk I have a question. I was in the grocery store the other day and heard a cover of Cymande "The Message". It was terrible, by itself it wasn't that bad but it was way worse than the original. I assume it's a new soul/funk band doing the cover but I just googled and couldn't find any info. Some british reggae group called Aswad did a cover in '88 but that's not it. Anybody know who it might be? Thanks in advance.
  16. Is the vinyl much cleaner than the label? Because independent of the marker, it looks worn and there's a sticker on it.
  17. I stand by my statement. The natural four (while a great group) aren't even from chicago. And the best stairsteps 45s are their windy c records, not even comparable to the natural four. You also spelled Alohe wrong.
  18. the best version is the original version by the impressions
  19. the stairsteps are possibly the greatest chicago soul group of all time, maybe next to the impressions
  20. Keni told me they were actually big beatles fans when they were kids and listened to a lot of rock music when they were driving around touring. It sort of explains their more rock / pop sound on the later LPs.
  21. now I have 3 more crappy 45s (mainstream and as the buccaneers) to buy just because they do an okay smokey impersonation on "to be my friend". "today'" is funky northern though, would have appeal on the northern scene.
  22. actually Alohe was also not in the stairsteps on dark horse. so the invisble man's band and the dark horse group are the same group.
  23. I think the stairsteps on dark horse was pretty much the same lineup (maybe without cubie?). The Invisible Man's Band was the same group minus Alohe and Cubie.
  24. yeah I have the other release (which was actually earlier), it's way rarer than this one for some reason
  25. They all were kids, they were all siblings. This is the one track that Cubie sings on:
