  1. I was just listening to a stack of invictus singles and came to the conclusion that i hate the chairmen of the board, their records are all awful. The barrino bros are cool though.
  2. that darling dears isn't a northern record though. do people try to play it at northern events? i agree that record is overrated though.
  3. okay thanks anyways i appreciate the tip. now next time i see the mello souls i will buy it.
  4. not a misprint, it went up in value recently
  5. would love to hear this, any chance you can send me audio? or is it on youtube?
  6. This auction had no bids (which is what I was trying to say), so it's less a case of a gullible bidder than a delusional seller.
  7. that's because you're listening to the wrong side. "so good to have you home again" is one of the greatest sweet soul sides of all time.
  8. I agree with this also
  9. at any time there are idiots listing cheap records for expensive. if you browse the records category and sort by price high-low you can find a lot of them. they only are interesting when there are actually bids.
  10. I like this record. Not amazing but good. I wish I hadn't bought it during the price bubble of a few years ago though.
  11. this is definitely true for me, but mainly because I'm not coming at it from a "northern soul" collector. A lot of those tracks sound generic and boring (and often terrible) to me. But I can see how they would be important to other people who danced to them and how individual records are historically important to the northern scene.
  12. one thing I've been wondering about recently are the tons and tons of doowop "repros". As soul collectors branch into R&B and early soul, this becomes and issue. I don't know if there's a guide for them (is there info in the Kreiter guide??), a lot of the knowledge is in the heads of doowop collectors. But most of them are old and won't be around for longer. And a lot look really convincing, partly because they were made at a time when the record pressing technology wasn't that different than when the records came out originally. Maybe someday soon people will pay a lot of money for these records not knowing they aren't original.
  13. thanks a lot. but i really do apologize if i come across as a jerk sometimes!
  14. Holy sh*t I have a different 45 by the same philadelphia vontells. Ultra rare. Do you know the label number of the stage record?
  15. up on manship auction now, ending in a week
  16. i buy a lot of items so i have to use the feedback system to manage what has and hasn't arrived and follow up with sellers that haven't sent stuff
  17. this is actually a very hard problem to solve with all the data. however, as a software developer i can say that there is usually a generally level of incompetence at places where people just have bad design or screw things up. Like when you're trying to leave feedback, you used to be able to click on the item and it would show the description. Now there's like 4 clicks to get to a page that doesn't show all you the info you need. pisses me off because they broke something that worked fine because some jerk and his managers thought he was improving the system.
  18. ebay search is really crappy / broken and not replicatible. I think it has to do with it being a huge distributed system, data existing on different servers, and some data being cached. recently saved searches have been totally random, I get results like every few days at random times, it used to be at the same time every day. totally unrelated, but they broke the mobile interface recently where you can't use the "classic" site and it switches back to the mobile version after you log in. Really pissing me off.
  19. this was on ebay 2-3 times in the last few years
  20. Sorry, I don't know the expression. Are you saying I come across as a dick? That's probably true, and I apologize for it, I'm just a smartass in general and not trying to actually be malicious to anybody. But in this thread I'm not seeing what you're talking about. Sorry if I'm misunderstanding. Thanks.
  21. that's true, but if there are multiple sales it can give you a more accurate idea. anyways, the lust has gone down from a few years ago as a bunch (not a lot) of copies have come up for sale since. I think one ended on ebay in the last couple weeks. I would say around $300 or maybe $400 on the lust if mint.
  22. Sorry about your situation. There are a few attempts by label owners to repress records and pass them off as original. There was that paul kyser thing recently, plus there was that dude that was selling fake "old" acetates on here. Either way, it's totally dishonest.
  23. thanks everyone for the info on the yellow copy, never knew that. it is weird that they put "side b" on both sides.
  24. these records turn up for sale, you can get some prices from popsike. the essence of love you have doesn't really come up for sale. if it was really good it would be a monster record.
