  1. Hi. I just put online two new Sitting in the Park shows. The first one, from a week ago Sunday, features guest Collector / DJ Elaine Wade playing records from her collection. The second one, which I did yesterday, is a specially themed show -- I played records that had a mid-60s, poppy detroit female vocal group sound. I put these shows up in higher quality than regular shows so you might want to save the files to your hard drive and listen there instead of listening in your browser. you can listen to Elaine's show at: https://www.sittinginthepark.com/12-4-2011.mp3? you can listen to the "spacey female detroit soul" at: https://www.sittinginthepark.com/12-11-2011.mp3? you can listen to past music shows at https://www.sittinginthepark.com/shows.htm I hope you enjoy the shows and thanks for your interest. Playlist for each show follows. 2. I talked to one of the members once, she was Carl Davis' wife at the time. She has a different last name now. I didn't get much info and unfortunately I never followed up. I think there are no common members between this Peaches and the Mercury Peaches although one group might have evolved into the other.
  3. when i saw it in the 90s all 3 copies were $4. too much for me at the time.

10 pounds is super cheap for some of those records, lots of nice titles
  5. Don't know anything about the group, never saw that page before. It's pretty cool actually.
  6. It's the last record on the label so it's hard to find. It's expensive and indemand so it's probably on youtube. Once I was a record store in the 90s and they had like 3 copies and I passed on them, now I need it to complete my stang collection...
  7. I agree with this. I think the point is if there's any disparity between the visual and play grades, it should be mentioned explicitly what the issue is and possibly graded separately.
  8. These are not particularly rare records (especially the exits, which was a hit, so there's a zillion copies floating around). Try searching ebay for these titles and see what you get.
  9. yes, but this is a more folksy track, sort of like terry callier
  10. This was already cool before, but Kevin who runs the site added a ton of new photos this weekend. Totally awesome: https://www.flickr.com/photos/dcsoulrecordings/
  11. also styrene burnt records might look super clean but play horrible. in that case i would note in detail how it plays.
  12. I totally disagree with this. A visually clean record that plays bad usually just needs to be cleaned well. It is *very* rare in my experience for this to not be true. On the other hand, a trashed record that plays mint is not mint. I always want a visual grade and a play grade if it plays differently for some reason.
  13. sorry, I was confused for two reasons. I thought the dash was part of the grade so the grade was VG+-. I also thought they were priced the same with one worse than the other. Sorry.
  14. a lot of people say this on here (you don't have to spend a lot to get a box of quality originals to DJ with) and it is true, but you have to have a lot of knowledge (e.g. from collecting for a while) to be able to pick out obscure underpriced records. If someone is just starting they will only know the big records. So it's not that easy / reasonable for people starting off to do this.

thanks so much, I appreciate it. Not my sound though, which is good for you -- less competition.
  16. cool list. But there's something funny with your inclinations listing, it appears twice at $20, one is "VG+-" and the other is "VG--"...
  17. boba replied to a post in a topic in Look At Your Box
I totally don't know this. Is there a backing group? Any chance you can send me a soundfile? thanks in advance.
  18. yeah, if you don't use EX there isn't much gap at all between VG++ and NM. NM for me means virtually no marks (maybe 1 or 2), VG++ might have a few light marks.
  19. totally awesome hand drawn label design
  20. I just want to avoid buying a 45 where people are like "plays VG+" and the record is destroyed but plays ok. I care about how it looks as much as how it plays.
  21. I think there should be a comment about noting a disparity between visual condition and playing condition. Also, I would prefer it if every record was graded visually, don't know if people would agree to that.
  22. this wouldn't be surprising given that there's a wonderettes record on ruby and enterprise
  23. that is the rarer and better solid state 45 on that label. hard to find, i paid $50 for my copy.
  24. I would say around $500. This store in MN had some copies and put them up for starting bids on ebay of $500. It went through a few times with no bids, then got one bid for the starting amount of $500 once. I was waiting for them to lower the price since no one was bidding but they never did.
