  1. I have never ever seen that mckinley mitchell, it might not have been pressed. I might have the johnny little john, I have to look at my shelf, will try to check it out later today
  2. I think the problem is that there seems to be two types of UK graders (at least on here). Those that are ultra-conservative and those that grade trashed records as VG or higher. There doesn't seem to be any in between. I feel like I am in between as I'm not the most conservative grader in the world but I don't grade trashed records as VG. I sold a record to someone here recently and they felt it was overgraded and we came to an agreement with a partial refund. But when I get trashed records from people here I usually avoid getting into anything with them (unless they are major records). I just avoid dealing with them in the future. Many people here are so hot-headed that they can't take any negative criticism without it blowing up into a big thing, often publicly. re: polished records, while some people are unscrupulous enough to polish their records, some people here may have gotten records from certain shady dealers in the states who polish their records, and they don't know what polishing is and what to look for, and they pass on the records as is. I find it's relatively rare for UK sellers to polish records. There are some australian sellers I've dealt with that do, I just avoid them now.
  3. that fantastic nu-tymes record is fantastic...
  4. Also, the first record I ever bought on here was graded "Ex-" and it was VG-. Didn't leave a good impression. The dude is always posting records for tons of money, I assume they're trashed.
  5. I bought a "VG" record from someone here recently. I thought I was getting a great deal on a rare record. The labels were almost entirely ripped off. The vinyl was trashed. There was a huge warp and a crack. The record was like below poor. It did play through though.
  6. a killer LP only track is the Monitors - Share the blame another good one is the marvelettes "you're the one for me bobby"
  7. hi, not the same group. This group recorded two 45s on the Chicago Sandman label and one 45 on the Memphis J'Ace label. Thanks.
  8. Hi. Yesterday on my radio show I interviewed Michael Sharkey, member of the north side group the Fugitives. The Fugitives cut two records on the local Sandman label and one record as the Fabulous Fugitives on the Memphis J'Ace label. Michael had some interesting stories. You can listen to the interview at: https://www.sittinginthepark.com/interviews/fugitives-11-28-2011.mp3? or on the bottom of my interviews page: https://www.sittingin...interviews.html thanks again for your interest, Bob
  9. At any subway stop in chicago people are singing better than this dude.
  10. when i bought from him recently he sent a message through ebay saying i couldn't use paypal because they take too much money, I was like "no".
  11. you schooled me... but the label is Expo'69. I think I actually have that press, I definitely am missing at least one though.
  12. A few years ago one went on ebay for like $11. I missed it and didn't see it until searching a DJ's bids later. I was so p*ss*d.
  13. yeah, crajon is the 3rd label (not expo). All are "original" presses.
  14. Edith Brown was on ebay a few years ago. It went super cheap, like $25. I wanted to bid as it was a Chicago record but the stupid prick seller had me blocked (for no reason related to ebay -- he was mad that I went to some of the same people to get records when he was in Chicago).
  15. I had an original sealed first press of this record. People here were talking about it a lot. I had my friend put it on ebay. It went for the minimum of $20.
  16. thanks, I had not seen the earlier thread. Either way, I didn't think it was a total fluke at $500 but rather that it's a very specialized market item and two bidders who need a copy have to see it at the same time to get any money for it. That's less likely to happen than for an in-demand item.
  17. so apparently it probably was a fluke since i just won a copy for $10. Although I have won some very expensive records for $10 so who knows.
  18. also, it's weird that it says it's a DJ copy, as that makes it not look like it was made for jukeboxes
  19. yes, this is what I was asking about. I guess my main questions are: 1. Was it intentional and if so, why? 2. Was it accidental and if so, what is the process that the records get "dinked" and why did certain records not have their centers removed.
  20. youtube does have some rules about external links but I think you're allowed to put up links that directly relate to the item for sale. if you care you can get more details from the youtube help.

  22. yeah, it is a puerto rican thing if you look at the address. I've seen it cheap on ebay a few times. It is fairly rare in my experience.
  23. is this that thing where it's a puerto rican group? if so it's sort of rare but never goes for much.
  24. so you're saying that it was an error where the whole punching didn't occur? Does this mean there's a whole batch of them like this? I have a sick photo of this group wearing the white wigs. Didn't they evolve into the hesitations?
  25. I think I remember James Trouble arguing with people on here about how there were two original presses? Either way, I thought it was original, but my $800 bid wasn't gonna cut it...
