  1. this was one of their biggest hits
  2. also, it sounds like you think that ace/kent is somehow undermining the activity of record collecting. if that's your position, how?
  3. I'm actually more interested in your post now that you articulated your position a little more. What does ace/kent gain by buying the actual 45? Do they gain something value-wise or morally? Is it because they're putting money in a record dealer's pocket so they're supporting the hobby? I can't think of any other reason. It sounds like you have some sort of record collector's code that they're violating. What about when they're going through master tapes, getting better quality recordings, and finding unreleased material? Isn't that superior to mastering off an old 45?
  4. watch your step is good, but i'd really like to hear the flip, as it wasn't included in the ace/kent shrine CDs and I heard it was good sweet soul.
  5. yeah, good price too, it's probably gone already. I wish I could find the other Cautions 45.
  6. I think they're both louisiana records. It looks like one came out before or after the reginald distribution?
  7. I agree, still need one if someone has one to sell
  8. both sides are great
  9. I just compared all 3 versions. The worst is the Thelma Lindsey -- while still good, her voice is sort of "blah" and she sort of sounds thrown over a backing track. Cynthia has a really nice voice but it's in Barbara's voice works better with the track. On the Cynthia and Thelma versions, the backing voices are mixed higher but on the Barbara version there is more actual harmony.
  10. I just got this 45. It's so good! IMO it's easily the best version of "why weren't you there" and the flip is nice too.
  11. I swear I have that jungle rock and don't remember it being that good, I had just put it away. Digging it out now. That is an awesome psychedelic sound
  12. yeah, I don't think any of the sites are the same, just that sellers list multiple places
  13. also lots of the stuff on gemm ... last two times i tried to buy on musicstack i got an "item no longer available" response which was very annoying and which sort of turns me off of the site.
  14. Best male version by far is by the Dontells. The Monticellos version is good too.
  15. penguins are the best
  16. james brown was the king of this
  17. thanks so much for the feedback I appreciate it. I never heard the mas-tok record before. I do have a double of the cha-tok record though if someone wants to buy or trade.
  18. bem sole is an awesome label design
  19. whoa, never noticed that. it kind of looks like a toucan
  20. you never responded to my PM to you from your last list
  21. plus it has penguins which is always a big positive
  22. There is another really nice version of this by the DeDe turner happening on yodi. There was an awesome photo of the bagdads on ebay a while ago, they were all wearing turbans.
  23. although I regret contributing to the 9 billionth version of this thread, all of his ads are really ads for his store. You should report every item as listing practices -> gratuitous text.
  24. also on the original label
