  3. I am talking about DJing. If someone just getting into northern soul decides to become a DJ, they probably won't know much more than the snake and mel britt and the main "canon" of the genre. They wouldn't even know to try to dig deeper. Someone collecting can buy anything, cheap or expensive, I don't care. Anyways, I've said enough on this topic, and I'm not even on "the scene", I think we would be just going back and forth at this point.
  4. if you contact the seller and ask if they'll ship express mail you would get it in time. definitely not cheap though.
  5. I definitely did not know this, how can you tell the boot from the og?
  6. cortez greer is on ebay right now if you want to try to get it cheap: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Cortez-Greer-Northern-Soul-45-Violet-/150721675807?pt=Music_on_Vinyl&hash=item2317b6421f#ht_722wt_880 hint -- use a sniper to bid for you. gixen is a free one.
  7. an awesome modernish one is garland green - just loving you - spring. So good and very cheap.
  8. thanks, I think me being a smartass offends some people and that's not my intention in general. have a good holiday.
  9. I agree with this (and I suggested youtube above). But I think someone who wants to be a DJ probably doesn't realize the vast realm of records (they probably got into it hearing the same set of northern oldies). They don't even know that they don't know that much. You see people with no money saving up to buy big records, rather than researching and buying more affordable ones.

  11. when she gets mad at you and sells your records she'll sell them for $10 each
  12. so which one is it? actually I think a pretty good resource to learn about soul 45s is youtube. There is so much music there and a lot of it is not 3 and 4 figure records. Also, you could listen to other people's mixes. It still takes time and effort though, it's not like one day someone can decide to be a DJ with little money and end up with a box of good records. But someone who has a lot of money can, unfortunately.
  13. sorry, wasn't trying to mess up your sale, just genuinely interested in that bizarre record. is it some foreign thing maybe?
  14. natural resources is la not chicago. What do you think that bizarre label for the jo armstead is? Some sort of bootleg? Or something pressed for some other specific purpose. weird.
  15. it's in the first volume of soul harmony singles so at least one of the collectors that contributed also has it
  16. sorry if you read my initial dickish response, but your post completely blows my mind
  17. brett (brent?) hosier, the guy who did the plut reissue told me he had a beat up copy. Only one of the sides is identical.
  18. i threw that garbage out
  19. I actually know my most valuable record, just don't want to post it on the internet where anyone can read it after my experience with the cable installers...
  20. I just got cable TV like 9 months ago. The installers were really creepy, they were like "you have a lot of records" and then started asking about how much different things cost, like my turntables. They also asked about my job and when I was home, etc. Eventually it became clear they were scoping out my apartment to rob it. Then they were like "what's your most expensive record?" and I got even more nervous. I was just like "each one is only worth a dollar or two" and they kept pressing me on it an I kept repeating that.
  21. so I got the mother of 3 in the mail, went to check if it was cleaner than my existing copy, and they were different. one had a typewritten label and the one i just got had a label in the regular stang font ... man that label was ghetto
  22. Phyllis M Williams don't ask me who she is though
  23. isn't this one of the boots that's super hard to distinguish?
