  1. I agree in general with what you are saying here (I think it's called "puffery"). But it's so much more extreme here, some people will have records up for literally 5x or more the going rate. Super shady used car salemen don't even do that.
  2. ok, this is one that isn't like rising in price or anything (so nothing will happen with it in 2012) but I like to play this one when I DJ, it's a million times better than the three prophets 45 ... I also couldn't find youtube video unfortunately, but it's billy scott and the prophets on 3P "So glad you happened to me".
  3. also, sorry for ruining your thread
  4. yeah, this is an example of what I was talking about before actually. I have the sock-it release and have been playing it forever. But I don't really have influence over what takes off in the scene, there is some sort of dynamic between DJs, dancers, collectors, etc. that makes stuff take off or not. I kept losing the 77 release for like $50 on ebay (I was just bidding to collect it on the other label). Then it shot up and now I can't get it for close to that. I bought one off sales on here recently but I traded it for another record I needed since I already had it on sock it.
  5. I think the harmonics on sock it / seventy seven is slowly picking up now, at least from the sales I've seen.
  6. sorry, I don't know of a ledgends on pumpkin. This ledgends had 4 records: two on red balloon, one on lockett, and one on CUR.
  7. my parents are only slightly older than you
  8. although I still don't understand it, I think sometimes it means clearing some space in their "box", as in their tiny box of records that own that they paid a zillion dollars for instead of more better but cheaper records. what happened to all that buzz about "hotboxing" that james trouble and others were talking about a few years ago? haven't heard people use that word in a while (which is good i guess).
  9. i got it without the caps this time
  10. people don't seem to understand that paypal and ebay are costs of doing business and result in overall higher profits despite fees. If paypal didn't exist, it would be extremely difficult to do overseas transactions and even local transactions become much more of a pain in the ass resulting in less people buying and lower prices. i know this from personal experience, as when ebay allowed checks and some sellers only took checks I would look for that and if it was just a random record I would skip it. i would only waste my time writing and mailing a check if it was an important record to me, now i buy all sorts of random garbage, even internationally. ebay exposes your record to a much larger market, usually getting much more money than people would get otherwise. much more than the ebay fees. certain records are best sold off ebay if you have, say, a top DJ to sell to, but most records get much more on ebay. these should be considered costs of business, not nuisance fees that should be paid by the buyer. if you want to net more money, ask more for your record.
  11. I'm actually sure they're a Black group, it definitely would have been listed as (be) in the soul harmony singles book as they have the PS listed and must have seen it.
  12. tons of polydor and rca titles, some of which i don't want to mention because they're under the radar and i still haven't found them...
  13. I love when people post their ridiculous prices and write "bargain".
  14. I agree this is the best one, the flip is killer too. Honestly, the rare one is mediocre compared to the other ones which are all killer.
  15. I have it on the label, was looking for a friend though. When I interviewed the surviving group members a few weeks ago none of them even knew the a-side of the record was released
  16. you can do a credit card reversal pretty easily but there are some things in the paypal agreement / policy about it and paypal can do stuff to your account if you do reversals. Not sure exactly what they would do though.
  17. I actually was going to post this but couldn't find a youtube clip of it. p.s. I seem to be very good at killing soul source threads for some reason
  18. I'm looking for oddball titles. Most of the other people looking for the same thing are in a similar position and wouldn't snitch on soul source. What's annoying is someone who doesn't know anything about it accidentally seeing it and posting some "What's this?" post while it's still live. Like when you're at a record show and someone who doesn't even collect soul pulls out a longtime want in front of you and doesn't even know what it is but buys it. Anyways, I'm not advocating that you have some sort of hard rule and especially not saying that anyone tell other people they can't post. However, it would be nice as a general code of conduct.
  19. I have a killer northern record on dimension by the Delacardos. I've only seen it the one time I got it, although it is on the dimension discography at soulfulkindamusic.net. It sounds sort of like the hollywood fames dance senorita but more cleanly produced and better imo. So the artist and label are big but the record is rare for some reason.
  20. It's not in the master, the vinyl itself itself is clearly heat damaged, you can see the dullness and lack of sheen, looks like the zillions of heat damaged records I've seen.
  21. that sucks. one random comment though: $2500 doesn't sound like a very rare or antique violin given that they can cost millions. I'm no expert though.
  22. anyone seen that "escrow" boot of the carl hall 45 selling for a bunch of money? I think part of it was that it looked like a real 70s label and not some crappy bootleg. The auction was pretty clear that it was not OG though.
  23. interesting info, thanks
  24. I have no idea and I don't want to make up a story. I have seen other records before where many of them were heat damaged, probably because they were near a fire. Kevin from DCSoulrecordings said it was pressed on poor vinyl but it still should be shiny in that case, the dullness and playback sounds definitely like heat damage to me.
