  1. It probably was booted a whole bunch of times for the hiphop scene but I don't think there was ever a lookalike boot
  2. I agree with this, just like many people will enjoy any version of "let's stay together", even if the actual singer is terrible, because they're also singing a lot. For me the cut is "ooh baby baby", I don't care how bad the cover is and in most cases it adds a slightly different dimension (and I'm singing along horribly out of tune anyways).
  3. OK, here is a sort of random list of stuff nobody mentioned yet of monster sweet soul sides on the a-side of not-as-good known northern sides. I left off ones where the northern side was as good as the sweet side: tony daniels - drip drop - beval (NO CONTEST on this one) porgy + monarchs - if it's for real baby - musicor mystiques - so glad to have you home again - twinight perfections - baby don't you go - big b Hollidays - Happy young man - Holliday Cautions - Poor loser - Shrine Moovers - Someone to fulfil my needs - Deep City Soul Injection - Girl full of charm - Accent Donald Jenkins and the Delighters - Adios - cortland Condors - Meet me halfway - Sheldon Rotations - If I could be like columbus - law-ton Intrepids - it's just a picture - cotillion Carpets - what can you do for me? - ViJ Carol Woods and the Executives - Ooh baby - Perfecto 7 Precisions - Take a good look - Hen-mar Sinceres - Don't waste my time - pzazz o'jays - I'll be sweeter tomorrow - bell black aces of soul - betrothal Mystics - That's the kind of love - Teako (can't believe anyone would even consider playing the flip) candi-bars - you're the one - candi-stix TNJs - She's not ready - newark Pacesetters - what about me - minit United Four - Go on - Harthon United Four - Look at her now - Harthon
  4. both sides of this record are great, but aren't they both about the same tempo?
  5. yeah, again the price will very much depend on who sees the record, although i guess a lot of people have saved searches
  6. boba replied to a post in a topic in Record Sales
this is still a good price for this specific sweet soul title though
  7. $250? Popsike is your best bet. Also, this is always in demand, often by non-"hardcore" collectors (obviously because of the wutang sample), so on somewhere like ebay, how well it's listed makes a big difference.
  8. totally agree on the volumes and uptowners, heavy sweet soul titles. But I actually think the devotions northern side is much better than "can you explain it".
  9. I actually hate these old standards that people do covers of. It's only when they totally transform it into their own song in their own genre and make it sound good do i like it. So I'm of the opposite opinion that the "original is best". Of course an uninspired cover that copies the original might be worse than the original.
  10. The a-side of the (IMHO terrible) northern side of the Districts on Nile is killer.

Here is a clip of "this time" which is the side I play: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6nCPS6Uzp8&feature=results_video&playnext=1&list=PLEB5C5301CB6A641A There are two types of graders on here, one type VG means very light scuffs. The other type VG means so messed up you can't throw it in the regular trash, you have to find a biohazard disposal to dispose of it. I assumed it might be beat up by your low price, it's even a better deal if it's conservatively graded.
  12. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zing!_Went_the_Strings_of_My_Heart i guess judy wasn't exactly the original singer but she had the original hit
  13. ok thanks. i just read through the thread again and I think you're talking about a specific studio not being multitrack. But I'm not sure which record you're talking about. Sorry to be confused. Thanks.
  14. yeah, this one is one of the greatest sweet soul cuts. another, which is my all time favorite, is rock candy "I don't think I'll ever love another" both are the a-sides of the records
  15. Another term for these tracks is "the a-side"
  16. I actually was thinking bette midler but when the gospelly chorus came in i think it sounded earlier. You know bette midler wrote some soul songs? Well, at least one song if not more, she wrote a moments song from like '78, a decent cut too.
  17. oh now i'm not sure i have it (I think i do). either way i will check. this is my prayer is great deep soul. i rarely like deep soul but that cut is really nice.
  18. yeah, probably. I think it sounds like something very specific but I can't think of it and I don't know much about classic rock anyways.
  19. i have the lady margo on both versions (just the label is orange and it has a V), I am supposed to scan some records today so will try to get it to you.

any way you can turn on the download option (unless it's there and I missed it) so I can listen in my car? Thanks in advance.

most of the material is quality. In chicago "baby please come back home" and "real humdinger" got radio play. "lonely no more" is a nice cut no one has mentioned yet.
  22. I still can't believe no one has bought this -- holy grail ultra-rarity. Took me 10 years to even see a copy and it was never on ebay until one showed up last year and a VG one showed up this year. This is obviously not a sweet soul forum though.
  23. boba replied to Markd's topic in Record Sales
joyce hopson and geraldine latham are great records (esp the hopson, love the "this time" side, I don't even think I've ever played the "I surrender" side). I can't believe nobody's bought them yet for 5 pounds, even if one is beat up.
  24. Mine's ok too, but it's very clean. My only point is that some records are rare, but do show up in worse condition so they are available. This one is only usable if it's clean. Sorry to not be clear, I wasn't trying to say that all copies are unusable.
