  1. a lot of the older doowop collectors were always into this side
  2. whoa, I never flipped this one over before, this is pretty good. the northern side is great too though.
  3. Thanks for listening and the positive feedback, I appreciate it.
  4. congratulations, awesome website
  5. the tommy turner is a unique sound in terms of how the song is written and the pacing, etc. It's an all time classic sweet cut though.
  6. ebay doesn't have a way to determine whether it's a bootleg or not. they would only take action if you were the copyright owner yourself and used their VERO program to report items. on the other hand, you should definitely report sleazy listing practices like overcharging on shipping, keyword spamming, and that stupid belgium dude who lists unbuyable items as ads for his store.
  7. Actually those paragraphs were written pretty clearly, thanks for the story of your life, it was interesting. I don't know what "Dex" is though, googling makes it sound like you are either talking about either a corticosteroid or dextromethorphan, I guess the first one is more likely. Also, I still don't know what record you were talking about when you were saying that it was not multitracked. it's not clear because there are so many different conversations in the thread, not because you wrote it a certain way. Thanks.
  8. Actually you would really like the sivilles probably because the a-side is a boogie cut (still with nice harmony though). I think someone has it buy-it-now on ebay for like $450 which is a fair price, it's gone for over $700. I have to look at the record again to check, it's either 1981 or 1983. I actually ended up buying the record twice. the first time it was sent in a bubble mailer inside another bubble mailer with no cardboard. Of course it arrived cracked. I emailed the seller and he said to send it back. As I was packing it I noticed that the return address was the producer of the record. I started bugging him (even leaving voicemails) trying to get a replacement copy and he said he didn't currently have any and refunded my money. The one I just got was auctioned by him again a few months later. It definitely was like a stray copy and not stock from a box as it wasn't that clean. The guy was super nice (apparently he sang in the group also) and gave me the lineup for soul harmony singles. Maybe he has another copy or maybe you should snatch the $450 copy, either way, it's a hard and generally unknown record.
  9. I know that the Ultimations actually are from Chicago (unlike every single act on the set of labels) as the Tra-Mor record owner told me he got into music by meeting one of them. The lineup is even known and in the first soul harmony singles book, not sure the source of the info, but I have never talked to anyone from the group. I think the Jo in Po-Jo is Jimmy Jones. I'm too lazy right now to look up the actual writers but can if it's important. I think I've also seen Po-So, maybe on a Sheryl Swope 45?
  10. Ian identified it himself in the mix. I thought it was cool that he didn't try to hide anything.
  11. yeah, I never play any other side except "is it me you really love" Some killer sweet records that "funky northern" people are picking up on now for the flips are Now on Now and the Creators on Brewtown
  12. It probably was booted a whole bunch of times for the hiphop scene but I don't think there was ever a lookalike boot
  13. I agree with this, just like many people will enjoy any version of "let's stay together", even if the actual singer is terrible, because they're also singing a lot. For me the cut is "ooh baby baby", I don't care how bad the cover is and in most cases it adds a slightly different dimension (and I'm singing along horribly out of tune anyways).
  14. OK, here is a sort of random list of stuff nobody mentioned yet of monster sweet soul sides on the a-side of not-as-good known northern sides. I left off ones where the northern side was as good as the sweet side: tony daniels - drip drop - beval (NO CONTEST on this one) porgy + monarchs - if it's for real baby - musicor mystiques - so glad to have you home again - twinight perfections - baby don't you go - big b Hollidays - Happy young man - Holliday Cautions - Poor loser - Shrine Moovers - Someone to fulfil my needs - Deep City Soul Injection - Girl full of charm - Accent Donald Jenkins and the Delighters - Adios - cortland Condors - Meet me halfway - Sheldon Rotations - If I could be like columbus - law-ton Intrepids - it's just a picture - cotillion Carpets - what can you do for me? - ViJ Carol Woods and the Executives - Ooh baby - Perfecto 7 Precisions - Take a good look - Hen-mar Sinceres - Don't waste my time - pzazz o'jays - I'll be sweeter tomorrow - bell black aces of soul - betrothal Mystics - That's the kind of love - Teako (can't believe anyone would even consider playing the flip) candi-bars - you're the one - candi-stix TNJs - She's not ready - newark Pacesetters - what about me - minit United Four - Go on - Harthon United Four - Look at her now - Harthon
  15. both sides of this record are great, but aren't they both about the same tempo?
  16. yeah, again the price will very much depend on who sees the record, although i guess a lot of people have saved searches
  17. this is still a good price for this specific sweet soul title though
  18. $250? Popsike is your best bet. Also, this is always in demand, often by non-"hardcore" collectors (obviously because of the wutang sample), so on somewhere like ebay, how well it's listed makes a big difference.
  19. totally agree on the volumes and uptowners, heavy sweet soul titles. But I actually think the devotions northern side is much better than "can you explain it".
  20. I actually hate these old standards that people do covers of. It's only when they totally transform it into their own song in their own genre and make it sound good do i like it. So I'm of the opposite opinion that the "original is best". Of course an uninspired cover that copies the original might be worse than the original.
  21. The a-side of the (IMHO terrible) northern side of the Districts on Nile is killer.
  22. Here is a clip of "this time" which is the side I play: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6nCPS6Uzp8&feature=results_video&playnext=1&list=PLEB5C5301CB6A641A There are two types of graders on here, one type VG means very light scuffs. The other type VG means so messed up you can't throw it in the regular trash, you have to find a biohazard disposal to dispose of it. I assumed it might be beat up by your low price, it's even a better deal if it's conservatively graded.
  23. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zing!_Went_the_Strings_of_My_Heart i guess judy wasn't exactly the original singer but she had the original hit
  24. ok thanks. i just read through the thread again and I think you're talking about a specific studio not being multitrack. But I'm not sure which record you're talking about. Sorry to be confused. Thanks.
  25. yeah, this one is one of the greatest sweet soul cuts. another, which is my all time favorite, is rock candy "I don't think I'll ever love another" both are the a-sides of the records
