  1. I still don't, I had an opportunity to get one cheap years ago and didn't because I was confused about it being a totally different version -- I had a recording and just thought it was a different edit for some reason
  2. totally unawesome
  3. I think someone recently posted a want for the globeliters on philtown?
  4. this is one of my favorite records of all time. but both sides are about the same tempo. does one side get played as a northern cut?
  5. For some reason sweet soul people love this track (it is great though) and there are a bunch of crazy new sweet soul collectors that bid high. The Deltones on Plut recent press went for almost $200 a couple of times and I noticed it went for like $15 the other day.
  6. a) the exciters isn't the title of the song b) the name doesn't start with the letter 'x' which was the context of the conversation there are a bunch of soul groups whose actual name starts with the letter x but matt was going for a song about a girl or guy whose name starts with the letter x.
  7. Robb, I love how your post was accusatory like you were scolding him for joining soul source when he didn't deserve it.
  8. you have a good ear! Before watching I was wondering how you knew it was dee dee, like if it was credited at the end, but listening she does have an unmistakeable voice. Did you watch the credits at the end for more info?
  9. I actually don't like either side of this record very much, it's okay, not "monster". The linda jones version of "it won't take much" is much better in my opinion (but it doesn't have a northern flip).
  10. there goes my stupid theory (although they still could have thrown another artist as filler on the flip but not that likely).
  11. that is just her rating
  12. I got one that doesn't really count. There is that really weird late 70s soul record, produced by Marvin Gaye, by a singer named Xavier on the Capquarius label. it's called "love man". And he's talking about himself. So the song is about an Xavier. But it's not in the title of the song, only the artist.
  13. that's probably the most common x name but I definitely can't think of a soul song with that in the title. it seems like the type of title that someone would remember too.
  14. also i'll put money down that nobody can find a soul song with an "x" name in the title
  15. in doing a web search for y names i hit this page; https://baby-names.adoption.com/browse/y.html i feel bad for babies today
  16. I asked what that was in another thread recently and someone said it was a mistake and should have said shann
  17. "please don't let me down" which is also pretty good deep soul (at least good enough for me to like it being someone who usually doesn't like deep soul)
  18. I like how that pic clearly shows it's the a-side . Bobby Brinkley calls my radio show sometimes, he says that the Paramount Four back the Bobby Brinkley and the Squires record. He also wrote a pretty nice Willie Hobbs 45 on seventy seven.
  19. sure, I have no idea what's going on with the record and if there's a different singer on each side. I was just commenting on the previous post's speculation. I have a 45 by Val Martin (aka Donnie Elbert) on All Platinum. It usually comes with the same song on both sides. I recently got a stock copy with a different b-side. The b-side they put on there is clearly not donnie elbert. It could be a similar situation here where they really meant to promo one side and threw an unrelated thing on the flip ... doesn't this record also exist with one side? this is also just speculation.
  20. The best part about "hey there lonely girl" is trying to sing along (when it comes on the radio or wherever) with the ridiculous falsetto and sounding like an ass. Especially in a public place. I never ever see "I surrender" btw, I got a beat up copy once. I don't even really see copies for sale here. Is it really that rare?
  21. The guy's voice is much deeper in the first clip (shep grant) than the second one (shep). Still might be possible and a good guess though.
  22. I think this is one of the tracks that was on that "rarest northern soul" records webpage I found on Dave R's site the other day. A record that people thought was ultra rare but that the internet revealed was just rare rare.
  23. doesn't don gardner sound like chuck jackson though? there are a set of singers with similar voices. Doesn't the ed townsend record on T-G-T also sound similar?
