you just blew my mind. i think i gotta go lie down now. I still can't comprehend what generates these values... maybe just a lot of rich people in England who already have nice cars and want to take it to the next level.
-
My friend who talked to him would have definitely asked about records and didn't learn anything, I can ask him to reask Dockery about a storage unit. Finewine was telling me the other day that the Jonah Dockery record on Thomas (which is him, from LA, leased to the Chicago label) should be a big record someday.

Monster Ballads Hiding On B-Sides Of Northern Classics

The tripps on victoria is actually frankie karl and the dreams first record. So that's frankie karl on lead. But it sounds like girls on the background. Something definitely funny happened with that record because there was also the LA record by "the trips" that were the exits. I wanted to find out what the story was but Frankie died like a year or two ago and I never got a chance to ask him. For example, it could have been one of those things where the Trips "love..." was supposed to be Frankie Karl's group but the Exits ended up singing on it. Who knows. -
Yeah, in the US they're also called "Vanity plates" but I've never heard of a secondary market for them. And I wonder what creates those insane values. I guess since the plates cover the whole of England where US plates cover a single state, there is less to choose from. Still seems extreme.

I've never seen it but I guess Mike has it. It doesn't have the "checking out" side which is on the blue rock release, the b-side is probably crappy or it would be known I would think. Either way, I would love to get a copy and would pay or trade well for it. Thanks.
-
whoa, the one that is chu88y, as "chubby", is 50,000 pounds. do people really pay 1/10th of what this seller is asking?
-
Is that ebay seller a business that solely deals with buying and selling UK license plates? The description says they've been doing that for over 30 years. If that is someone's full time business that blows my mind.

This is one of my favorite transitional records, which also happens to be Chicago. not northern though: There are two versions of this released, the later vee jay version has a delay added so the end of every sentence echoes.

I'm confused what this thread is about, are you asking for scans? I have the ray-co record and I think all francettes 45s. The ray-co group is definitely the same group as the tangerine group, there are common names, etc. But I think they are actually NOT the laguna group (which has a slightly different spelling of the name and a totally different sound), despite all 3 records being LA. -
I have a double of the souveniers on inferno to trade or sell

Are Some Northern Fans More Into Collecting Than The Music?

I agree, it not only makes it easier for other people to copy your set / style but once it becomes "known" it's not cheap anymore. -
the Tandells is a girl group. The Dem III has a really slow side "lonely guy" and an uptempo side "i got a woman". I like both sides but the "I got a woman" side is very messy. Supposedly Dem III are the same group as the Magicians, but I'm not sure.

Thanks for the info. I am going to start a new thread asking about the history. Were both the rare groove and 2 step scenes based in London?
-
I'm actually becoming more interested in this thread as you're describing an actual scene that I know nothing about, but I probably shouldn't respond any more about it on this thread as it's not directly related to the milton wright.
-
I believe you (since you're on the scene), and the jackson sisters makes sense, but the maceo track sounds more like just funk to me. Even the JBs monorail is more rare groove sounding. Also, how come nobody ever talks about the two totally different versions of the jackson sisters (prophecy vs. polydor). The polydor has harder drums and is more club oriented in my opinion.
-
no, the baton master record is much later in the decade. it came right before the liberty records (which hit with "papa oom mow mow" and "the bird's the word")
-
obviously the first 3 are very hard and expensive. the dem iii is hard but not as expensive, have seen a few copies for sale over the last 4-5 years. It's so lo-fi it's hard to listen to though (both sides). I managed to get that west coast distributors 45 too (which doesn't even sound like soul to me) but have never seen the tandells on Jam-Cha.
-
that's what I wanted it to sound like (like many other TK singles that sound like that) but it wasn't that rare groove or two step sounding to me. Vaguely related, what's the best (or at least most popular) rare groove 45 of all time? "90% of me is you"? "Everybody loves the sunshine"? or something else?
-
I think the Carl Lester is becoming popular now, it was just a random record before but I'm starting to see it on people's lists, priced a little higher, etc. FYI that's the first rivingtons record.

I also find it weird that in my experience, some people who can't afford it like to get the most expensive records. I think it's sort of an ego thing (versus being music driven) in that case. People always say here that there are thousands of good cheap records, which is true, but I'm not really seeing them when I look at the event playlists. -
