I Need Help
It used to be that you had to buy tons of records, communicate with tons of collectors, go to tons of stores and shows, get burned buying garbage, etc. over a long period of time to learn enough about records to be a good DJ. Now you can listen to almost anything on youtube and then buy that track over the internet if it's available. I don't understand why you wouldn't be willing to put in this minimum amount of work so that you can find tracks that you personally know and like instead of having other people tell you what to play. If you want to know what the most "classic" northern tracks are you can look at one of those northern soul top 500 lists. Otherwise I think you should start listening to a lot of music as you can do it for free. In the end you will be much more passionate about your DJing and do a much better set as you'll have a personal connection to and actually care about the music.

70's For Sale
you should send them to the dude who posted in video/audio saying he just got a DJ gig asking for people to tell him what records to buy to DJ with.

Dangerous Doo-Wop And Group Sound/early Soul..
I like the little d and the harlems a lot even though it's one of many early soul tracks that sound like "stand by me". I saw it on the original pre-josie label recently, I don't know if I've even seen that before. I don't know the other two tracks, will check them out. Thanks.

Rare Groove / 2 Step Thread
This is probably what's leading to my confusion too. My understanding of the term comes from the Dusty Groove / collector culture of the mid 90s. "Everybody loves the sunshine" as well as late-70s jazz-funk LPs with dark sounding tracks, were the essence of "rare groove". Even if the LPs were not that rare. if the scene as it happened in the UK had a different sound, that's partly why I'm confused. I still need to read everyone's responses and think about them in detail to follow up, I still don't have a good grip on all the scenes out there, their history, and how they interacted. Thanks to everyone who responded so far.

A New Word For Bootleg
Actually one of the ways you can tell a (US-based) seller is Jamaican is that they often write "rear" instead of "rare". Specifically with this seller, I used to buy a lot of stuff (he does have some interesting records), then like 7-8 years ago I bought a record that was unplayable due to some pressing problem that caused loud hiss. I was buying it as an upgrade. He responded saying "all my copies are like that". I got really mad at him for misrepresenting the item and got into it with him and he refunded my money. I assume I'm blocked but I haven't tried to bid since.

A New Word For Bootleg
that is a Jamaican seller (in the US), it's sort of dangerous to buy from him because there are so many Jamaican bootlegs that were done for their scene that aren't well known on the northern scene. I think he usually notes when it's not original though.

A Bit Worrying Maybe
yeah, but if he's lazy and waits a week or more to mail then it could take longer. it is surprising that the large amount of negatives and neutrals he has are for grading, there weren't for not sending things. He could have multiples of the record and is too lazy to take a new pic each time. How long since you asked the seller have you not had a reply? Opening up a paypal dispute (without escalating it to a claim) or requesting his contact info might get him to respond if he hasn't replied yet. Good luck.

Comedy Sale Of The Day
more and more I've been seeing the wrong photos associated with the wrong items, like a photo that goes with one listing is duplicated in another. I don't know if it's all due to user error, if there is some process thing when listing that makes it more likely, or if there's a straight bug on ebay that causes it. I have been seeing it a lot recently.

Knights And Arthur - Do You

I Need Help
I don't think anyone can really give good specific suggestions without knowing you, what taste you have, etc. One general suggestion would be to go to youtube and just start listening to videos. You could start with a song you own / like and then look at the related videos and listen to as much stuff as you can think of. If you find something you like, write it down, and buy it if it's affordable. Sorry to not be of more help.

Dangerous Doo-Wop And Group Sound/early Soul..
you don't have any favorites that you especially like?

Johnny Washington On Sandwash
OK, I finally found my copy under a stack of other records and listened to it again. The uptempo side is actually really good, almost (haha) rare groove sounding. I think I didn't get past the weird intro or something when I played it before. The ballad side is okay but not great, has a nice lo-fi vibe to it though.

I Need Help
I'm confused. Are you saying you got a DJ set but don't have any records you want to DJ with and you want someone else to suggest a playlist for you so you can buy the records? If this is the case, why were you asked to DJ and why did you agree to do it? A DJ should have their own music and own style. Not trying to be a dick or being unhelpful, just trying to understand what exactly the situation is -- maybe I'm missing something.

George H. Franklin - Faces Records 2015 Mystery ! Can Anyone Help ?
This is only vaguely related, but every time I would see something on this label on ebay I would avoid it because of the address makes it look like it could be some cajun "swamp rock" record which I have been burned on before. Now I regret not buying stuff on the label when they came up.

It works for me. Maybe try right clicking it and saving to your computer so you can play it outside the browser? I found another one recently that would have fit in well, but philly and not detroit -- Patti Ward on Road
