  1. It would be pretty cool to know how to remove it, even if it's not worth the effort. Anyone know a document restorer forum?
  2. both sides were similar in style. IMO the best female version is Baby Washington, just because she is such a soulful singer. I like hers better than aretha's etc. Whoa, i just googled aretha's version and found this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1dR0FDgNJdw aretha doesn't even look like the same person. she looks anorexic. I wonder why no female groups ever did the song.
  3. It doesn't look like stain on the paper but ancient adhesive residue that has hardened. I thought you were talking about adhesive from a sticker that had recently been removed. That stuff is like impossible to get off. I'm sure there's some way to get some of it off, but I have no idea how. I'm trying to think if there's some other field where people have to deal with the same issue where you could ask (e.g. book collectors????). I would even try the surgical spirits at this point, but I don't think it will work either. Worth a try though.
  4. believe me, that is a much more positive look than constant whining about everything
  5. I know this will offend everyone on this thread, but I got the Pat Thomas today and played it, it's totally like a cheesy lounge jazz version of the track, the least soulish version I've heard. This is just my opinion, but I probably won't be playing it again any time soon.
  6. I'll pull it and hold it for you. Visually pretty bad, plays ok.
  7. it's a version of the brothers of soul. I've only played the uptempo a-side, never played the b-side. There used to be stock of this floating around and even then it was $40. Now it's gone up: https://collectorsfrenzy.com/Details.aspx?id=290425432925 I think the flip is a ballad though. Worth you buying now and trading / selling it if you don't like it.
  8. I have a double of it. it's in bad condition though (as is my personal copy). plays fine though. kim's is the first (fairly) clean copy i've seen.
  9. Good luck. I hope in the long run you finally get more exposure and return after you get legitimate 45s released. Thanks for rescuing these tracks!
  10. If I didn't have them already I definitely would be buying the Cheers, Two Fellows, and Robert Taylor at those prices. I like the other side of the Robert Taylor 45.
  11. Also, besides the fact that you don't want a million posts to wade through all clumped together in one giant thread, starting a new thread for each artist question would also provide positive content to this forum (versus threads where people just complain about stuff). I think the title of this thread should be changed to Pat Powdrill.
  12. the second time I ever got burned on a bootleg was the vinyl press of timothy wilson on sky disc. it looks BETTER than the original. Probably plays better than the styrene original too. Still not worth the $150 I had to pay though.
  13. marcus kelly does have a nice ballad 45 though, he sings on the westmoreland company on vanessa
  14. I would be happy to make offers of much less than 1000! If you send it to an Armenian buyer it would also protect the heritage of the record...
  15. I don't sell on ebay so I don't understand how they do it, but some sellers within the US and outside the US are able to have a number different than $4 show up for me (in the US). If you are going to say "wait for invoice", I would also list shipping costs, otherwise people will get pissed when they get a random number that they think is too high (they might even go onto message boards and call the seller a "greedy bastard"). Unless you figure out a way to adjust the number that shows up, I don't know how you can deal with the difficult buyers though.
  16. There used to be a sort of detailed story about Pat Powdrill on Spectropop. She was from LA. She died in 1995 and was in the Ikettes and Mirettes after her solo records. Here are the solo records I know of: Reprise 20,166 - Fell By The Wayside (fg) / I Only Came To Dance With You (63) Downey 139 - I Can't Hear You / Do It (3/67) (below as Pat Powdrill & The Powerdrills) Downey 141 - Together Forever / They Are The Lonely (6/67) Here is the spectropop interview, it's long and probably has answers to all your questions: https://www.spectropo...drill/index.htm
  17. Sorry, I didn't realize you were selling for living expenses, that sucks.
  18. it has been on ebay many times. i don't even think this is the first time it's on ebay after it became popular. For example, here is a sale from november: https://www.collectorsfrenzy.com/Details.aspx?id=220886408693 here is a sale from october: https://www.collectorsfrenzy.com/Details.aspx?id=250901004469 I've seen it a bunch of times before too but they don't appear to be indexed. I think I remember seeing Callum get one for $99 or something like that (sorry if I got the wrong person).
  19. This is what I was referring to, it will disappear after a day. I once used it to get an 8x10 photo that was glued onto some cardboard off and I was pissed off that it looked permanently stained. It was gone the next day though. It's too bad it didn't work. I would try lighter fluid next.
  20. I responded to this but then my soul source connection died. I looked up what "surgical spirit" was (apparently a UK thing) and it's just a combination of Ethyl Alcohol and Isopropyl Alcohol. In my experience alcohol is not the best way to remove adhesives, you basically end up scrubbing the label and scrub off some of the label in addition to the adhesive. Lighter fluid is a totally different organic solvent (Naphtha) that will dissolve totally different things than alcohol. I would definitely be careful about getting it on styrene though as I have dissolved styrene with other organic solvents before (specifically paint thinner). I think it's more effective than alcohol in removing adhesives though. I also don't know what "pollutants" you are referring to, it's one chemical. It is more toxic though if that's what you meant and I think it has the tendency to gum up if not cleaned up afterwards. The citrus-based cleaner is specifically advertised for removing adhesives left over. You should try that first.
  21. Also, if the auction explicitly listed the shipping cost before ending, you can't after it's over expect him to change his quoted shipping. If you see excessive shipping, ask before the auction is over if they can ship a different way. If they refuse, either avoid the seller or bid lower to make up the difference.
  22. again, how do you know the dude is pocketing the money? If you get the package and it has $29 on it as shipping, how is he ripping you off? How is he a greedy bastard? Because he wants to protect himself against fraud? If it has more than a dollar or two less, I would ask him for a refund of the difference. If he doesn't agree, do a paypal claim for excessive shipping. In that case he's a greedy bastard. But I would assume he's ripping you off until you get evidence of it. BTW, I get ripped off in shipping a LOT from foreign sellers.
  23. I agree, this is exactly what I was saying, sorry if I wasn't clear.
  24. also, it's not fair to call the seller paranoid when so many are experiencing chargebacks from overseas orders and losing money. they are trying to legitimately protect themselves from paypal chargebacks.
  25. another reason not mentioned is that if a record isn't a hit on the radio, they're not going to waste their money pressing stock copies to send to stores
