  1. yeah, pretty much when I read soul source I think "spirit of friendship"
  2. also, that we the people on verve is way rarer than those two 45s. have you ever seen it?
  3. I never realized how many versions of this song were actually recorded until after I posted and then tried to search. Even on MGM there were a bunch of versions recorded (it looks like conway twitty had a hit with it). I'm glad you were able to find the one you were looking for, it was like a needle in a haystack.
  4. I like how you referred to me as "someone"
  5. I was just pointing out that if someone doesn't know that about irma routen, why are they even posting here? it should be a question asked as part of the sign up process.
  6. one of the best o'jays things on soul train is the episode where they actually have cholly atkins working out the choreography with them, it was awesome. then it cut to them doing "got to give the people" in these awesome suits.
  7. I don't think the high keyes is really rare at all (it's not common, i'm just talking about relative rarity here). It's just in demand and expensive. Probably a lot of the $10 45s on the label are rarer.
  8. random monticellos info: they are from buffalo NY and are exactly the same group as madeline and the monticellos on de-vel
  9. Ok sorry. I swear the person I was talking about (who is also named dale) was also trying to sell that record but if you search his posts and he isn't then I wouldn't contact him.
  10. I think the dale in question is user "stonedsoul". Not 100% sure but you can search that users posts for a sale post.
  11. Thanks
  12. That is on MGM and I didn't have an MGM discography to look at, only verve. Maybe there are some super rare MGM records. I never heard of that record until your post, btw, so I also would have assumed it was rock. Maybe some of those "rock" titles on the verve list are soul and nobody knows them?
  13. Right Now came out on Lion also, it is common on Lion. The flip of the verve single is what I needed - "we done threw it away". That side sucks.
  14. I thought I had recently gotten the 45 you're talking about but it was by Jimmy Dockett on his own label so probably not. I don't remember seeing danny boy on other records. I also searched the verve listing and it wasn't there. I will see if I can google it up.
  15. Thanks George. So you don't know any rare soul titles on the label though? I saw in that list that there were some numbers marked as unreleased, I guess they might exist. There was definitely nothing that looked super exciting.
  16. I've never seen the one without the logo. I also always assumed this was ZZ Hill's label, never knew about the Matt Hill / brother thing, thanks for the info. I always buy MHR and Mh records when I see them. Do you have a discography of it? I'd be interested in seeing it to see if I'm missing anything.
  17. I just looked through this discography: https://www.soulfulkindamusic.net/verve.htm I didn't really see any soul titles that appeared to be ultra-rare. Is it really just the we the people 45? Obviously I didn't know a lot of the titles, which I assumed to be rock. Also, I don't understand how the discography has numbers that are marked as unreleased and other numbers that have question marks. If someone got access to the company files, they would know that certain items are unreleased, but wouldn't they know the missing numbers? How else would they know certain items are unreleased? Anyways, it is weird about there just being one rare soul title.
  18. I actually get a surprising percentage of my records I buy on ebay with cracks (usually tiny edge cracks). I have no idea if the sellers are shady and didn't disclose them or if they didn't see them (since I am hypersensitive to them, it's a pet peeve of mine). It really sucks mainly because I have to waste a ton of time returning records to the seller and usually lose return shipping. Such a high percentage of sellers are shady though that if I actually want to find anything I have to deal with them.
  19. Has to be the same person I guess. My interaction with steve is 0 so I won't be asking him... Unrelated, what are the most valuable northern records on Verve? The charades is obviously one of them. Are there any impossible to find grail titles? It would be surprising if there wasn't one. I got an impossible verve title recently, we the people on verve (definitely the same group as on lion, one of the sides is the same). I had never even seen a copy for sale except when I googled it a very long time ago and hit a yahoo japan auction. I sent it to someone as part of my want list recently and they told me craig moerer had a copy for $18 so I bought it. It wasn't good at all, but clearly very rare. If there are things like that on the label (as there are on most major labels), you'd think there would be an ultra-rare valuable record on verve. But it seems like all the expensive titles are also pretty common. Are there other super rare verve soul titles even if they aren't valuable?
  20. Robb, the boot I got burned on looks exactly the same as the original, only the deadwax is different.
  21. Linda Jones also isn't hard. I have a double actually but you'd probably be better off buying one through musicstack, gemm, discogs, or BIN on ebay because I don't want to spend an hour looking for it for like $10-$15 or whatever high keyes is very expensive now btw
  22. my friend is pissed because apparently he just sold his sag warfare and has been looking for FS for a long time, even contacting the group.
  23. yeah, only 4 sides out of their 9 are good. I think "I've got love" is just okay, not as good as the OG by the younghearts. However, "a way to love me" is also okay. so maybe like 4.5 sides out of 9.
  24. thanks a lot for resolving this
