  1. yeah, the "little fat man" is a buddah. I like that design actually.
  2. whoa, james bell = cheap
  3. Which version of the label, the psychedelic version or the purple one with the buddah on it?
  4. btw, the paul smith (I'll run) was a local hit, so it's possible that some of the pressings were done on cheap recycled vinyl
  5. I think it was temporarily inflated for a few years but has gone back down. I saw one set sale for like $100 the other day but I don't remember where. I should have bought it as an upgrade.
  6. I've had records that had chips going into the playing grooves that played through because the needle spinning at 45 was able to go over that spot (sort of like driving fast over a speed bump). That record listed isn't exactly an "edge chip" (as listed) though, it's more like an entirely missing edge.
  7. apparently the turbo 45 was an audition recording done by the group for all platinum. they refused to sign a contract but sylvia put it out anyways. I'm not sure if the tobin version was done before or after the turbo version.
  8. Is that an original? no bootleg is listed in the manship guide and it books for 3500. I've never heard this record before. Is that clip in the auction actually what people DJ? it's just a slow blues cut, not even funky. I'm totally confused now.
  9. I think you mean the spoilers on turbo. I saw that auction too, thought it was bizarre.
  10. But it doesn't look like a hand drawn label. I'm talking about stuff like this: Also, I'm sorry I haven't produced the worst label ever as I promised earlier. I can't seem to find a scan on my computer or remember the label name.
  11. a bunch of records on the label (including the first commands and the tonettes) were also pressed on clear red wax
  12. There was a huge expensive coffee table book called "the heyy baby days of beach music" that came out a few years ago which has info on tons of groups. In a few words, I would describe the sound as mostly White garage-type bands (they were not like separate vocal groups) playing soul music. Also, one thing that's different than the northern scene is that it seems like there's a continuity of the music where it continued to be made and new generations got into the scene continuously, even going into today.
  13. It's funny, some stuff that's totally played out that you would never play at your house becomes exciting when it actually goes on the radio, like I recognize it and start singing along. Like I would never play the temptations "since I found my baby" at home but when it comes on the radio I'm totally pumped.
  14. the modern record originally came out on the hot cakes label out of Mobile, AL (weird that modern picked up another record, they didn't really do that). I don't really know the bio of this larry saunders but if it doesn't include being in the south it's probably not the same guy.
  15. I have never dealt with Val (apart from sending want lists to the email address advertised in discoveries and getting no answer). The people I know that are friends with him say he's a great guy. But I do know random people who just tried showing up and he said they needed a list of records they wanted and that they couldn't just browse.
  16. yeah, 1099 is a US tax form. Don't know if any income reporting happens in other countries.
  17. wow thanks a lot gary. i also like how you are really opened minded about records and not just focused on a few expensive ones. peace...
  18. Like almost every track of theirs, this is good, but this one is sort of played out for me. For some reason I can hear "whatcha see is whatcha get" a million times without it being played out though.
  19. This group is supposed to have no connection to the volt group. I think members were specifically asked about this group.
  20. It is the same group. Segue is philly. The group is from philly, according to one of the fawns.
  21. I always thought they were identical recordings and mixes?
  22. yes I have all their records, this is one of my favorite female groups. I never bought "la la..." on part iii though, now that it's more in demand I regret not picking it up on that label. Apparently the group was from philadelphia despite being on a DC label.
  23. I disagree, I love labels like this that are totally handmade / DIY and incompetent looking. The only better ones have really band hand drawn art, I have a bunch of those. I can't remember the name of the label I was looking for before, I've been trying to find it with no luck.
  24. It sort of seems like someone who doesn't know how to deal with records rather than a pro sleazebag. I would ask for a partial refund of the excess shpping in this case first before going to paypal. If you don't want to and want to go to straight to paypal, that's also your perogative. This is so awesome (they apparently sold this recently), I wish I had seen this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/370566284388#ht_500wt_974
  25. there is some crazy youtube footage of wee gee performing on a local detroit public access station in the early 80s. there's like a fog machine and all this other crazy stuff going on.
