  1. EDIT: SOLD thank you Carpets - What can you do for me / I just want win - ViJ - $400 + shipping. *Paypal gift only*, only EMAIL me at SITPSales@gmail.com to reserve. This copy is in the G to G+ range, very glossy but with moderate scuffing and surface scratches, not feelable but you can see the scratches in the scan. Here are 300DPI scans of both sides. The labels actually look good in real life, the scans are emphasizing the contrast: https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/1-2014/carpets-a.jpg https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/1-2014/carpets-b.jpg Here are full 256kbs stereo unprocessed recordings of both sides. There is just some light crackle at the beginning that clears up. This is a good play copy. https://www.divshare.com/download/25041409-dae https://www.divshare.com/download/25041415-e2f I paid $400 for this copy, would like to get my money back, but would consider offers if nobody wants to pay $400. I think $400 is more than fair for a good play copy though, you might be able to resell this for more. Again to reserve, EMAIL ME at SITPSales@gmail.com. Please only email if you can pay right away. Thank you.
  2. the star-tells are actually a different group than the chymes, despite saying so in chicago soul. both records had david martin on lead. only the chymes was him and his brothers. david martin also sings lead on rare essence on jay pee / rekord.
  3. i'm glad some people here are interested, i have the sidney barnes furniture store one, i have some political ones (e.g. for candidates) which are cool too. i'll try to start a blog when i get a chance, with scans of the record.
  4. Stan has Black features and he says "we" when talking about Black business ownership
  5. also, please give me credit if you decide to use this or repost or something
  6. I think he rarely had writing credits, he was more of a hardcore promoter and producer. That said, I know very little about him.
  7. I just recorded a bunch of obscure 45s, some advertisement records, a promotional record for another other record, and a public service announcement records. I think records like these are really cool, just sharing. Other people seem to not be as interested but if they are i have more stuff like this, maybe I should do a blog. Lou Rawls does a creepy Christian PSA record (4 spots): https://www.divshare.com/download/25036677-d47 The Avons do a promotional 45 promoting their Groove 45 "Rolling stone" along with some school and weather announcements. They're trying to sound sexy and some of these are really awkward: https://www.divshare.com/download/25036674-748 The Avons (actually "Sonya and the Avons", I don't know who Sonya was but I don't think she was an Avon) do an ad for Riceland Rice: https://www.divshare.com/download/25036671-5c9 An ad for a furniture and jewelry store in Atlanta called "Fair". Flipside is a straight R&B instrumental and is really good actually: https://www.divshare.com/download/25036684-e41 can record some ads or similar 45s if people care
  8. His son was in the Impalas and later Livin' Proof / Triple S Connection.

  10. i played the flip on my best of 2008 show. one of the best sweet soul records and it's a gospel record...
  11. Hi. Welcome to my latest Sitting in the Park radio show. Today I did a unique show in that I tried to play all ‘70s records (I might be off but close on one or two records…). I started off the show with a funky set, then played a male-female duo set, then played sweet soul (mostly female groups) for the rest of the show. You can listen at: https://www.sittinginthepark.com/1-12-2014.mp3? You can listen to other shows and interviews with Chicago groups by going to my main page www.sittinginthepark.com Also, if someone you know wants to subscribe to this email list, they can add themselves at the following URL: https://eepurl.com/n7Qr5 Playlist follows and I hope you enjoy the show. 12. EDIT: removed my post at the request of another soul source user
  13. Isopropyl is 100% safe for vinyl and styrene, assuming it's nothing more than isopropyl alcohol and water. It's the base for many cleaning fluids you can buy. If you buy ethyl alcohol it will mess with the surface, not because it's not safe but because they denature it with chemicals that are not safe for vinyl or styrene. You'd have to find a source for non-denatured ethyl alcohol; even everclear is safer than pharmacy ethyl alcohol. But isopropyl is also much stronger at cleaning dirt.
  14. re: "gloria shannon", this track is in BMI along with the flip, don't know if realside knew that or not. Both songs were written by randy diamond and edwenna edwards: https://repertoire.bmi.com/writer.asp?blnWriter=True&blnPublisher=True&blnArtist=True&page=1&fromrow=1&torow=25&querytype=WriterID&cae=64030807&affiliation=NA&keyid=101395&keyname=EDWARDS+EDWENNA
  15. if you want to post audio you can post it on a separate site like divshare, soundcloud, etc.
  16. the seller has a history of doing things like this
  17. it looks like the labels have been sanded off.
  18. here is his BMI entry. It does show that Fred Hughes "ooh wee baby" was his biggest song: https://repertoire.bmi.com/writer.asp?page=1&blnWriter=True&blnPublisher=True&blnArtist=True&fromrow=1&torow=25&affiliation=BMI&cae=23513717&keyID=260937&keyname=PARKER+RICHARD&querytype=WriterID not sure about the d peoples thing, have to look into it. the dutones were based in chicago though.
  19. no, it's not in the two 1968 books
  20. here is the '64 copyright entry for what it's worth. i can look in copyright to see if the pittsburgh label had the balls to recopyright it in addition to bootlegging it: YOUNG BOY; w & m Richard Parker. © Conrad Pub. Co., Inc.; 12Nov64; EU853023.
  21. i was looking at the later pittsburgh renee boot, they must have changed the credits
  22. I think there were two independent (or at least chronologically separated) 521 labels from new york. It was a club (the 521 club). One of the labels was early '60s, the other was late '60s.
  23. No connection. I have at least one of those 45s on the German Magnet label with a pic sleeve, it's okay. Robb, you might be interested in the fact that Richard Parker co-wrote Barbara Green's Young Boy.
  24. Richard Parker is 100% from Chicago, he was half of the Dutones on Columbia who had the big hit "The Bird". He did a bunch of work in Chicago mainly in the early '60s (he wrote for a few artists) but had a few random recordings later in his career, i think the last one being released on Commonwealth United Records. The other half of the Dutones was Jerry Brown, who had a solo record as Jerry Townes on Nickel and who sang lead on the Perfections on Twinight.
  25. Larry Montgomery did not lead the Chicago group, Joseph Buckner did. That's why they even had a record crediting Fuzzy and the Majors on Mickey's People label. It's "Berl" short for "Berlyn". Lawrence "Snake" Bibbs (who was in the studio for the interview) sadly passed away last year. William Kirk Davis joined when Berl was drafted, Kirk was previously in the Traits. Kirk is on the Major IV records. They did live in LA for months at a time when they were working with Mickey Stevenson, I know Kirk stayed for a while at Mickey's house and also stayed for a while at Johnny Nash's house (I'm pretty sure they're the backup on Nash's "I'm so proud you're my baby").
