  1. doesn't it say nashville, TN on the label of this? or did you just mean that it has a carolinas type sound?
  2. whoa this is awesome, i must have listened to it at some point but must have forgotten it or overlooked it
  3. this is one of my favorite cuts of his
  4. I will let you know. Apparently there's a whole LP on ABC but I don't collect Lps
  5. I need to find a doowop record dealer that has this record to sell and the kreiter doowop guide. Both voice records are listed at $100
  6. I have a copy, not that I can easily put it your hands. Would trade it for the blendels on dontee if you got that...
  7. haha, I don't think I've heard this song since it was out. It sounds like there's a million edits between phrases to try to keep him on beat or something.
  8. I'm pretty sure the word actually does date back to the Ice-T song O.G. as in "original gangsta" and evolved into an abbreviation for original over time. You might think people who are into records might use it because they're into rap but actually its use is pretty mainstream now, I think I even heard it used on antiques roadshow.
  9. I don't know, the record is strange. You should look at those previous threads that chalky posted for more info. Thanks.
  10. The contemplations record comes up for sale. Go to www.popsike.com and type in contemplations into the search to see what it looks like
  11. there are a lot of conservative graders on ebay. actually, even the worst graders now grade more conservatively because the DSR system forces them to if they want to keep selling... but there are obviously still very poorly graded records out there (often from new sellers with low feedback or from junker dudes who aren't exclusively record sellers).
  12. have now secured stock copies of both sting 45s and all 4 showdown 45s (actually I already had the hit one)...
  13. found it: https://www.soulexpress.net/jivefive.htm seems definitive. Probably soulfulkindamusic should be updated too
  14. in popsike there are a lot of green copies. I haven't seen one for a while though and popsike reflects this.
  15. https://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-1966-Northern-Soul-45-Ringleaders-Baby-Happened-Our-Love-Lets-/330688432810?pt=Music_on_Vinyl&hash=item4cfe910aaa#ht_500wt_1041
  16. oh yeah, if anyone here plays chess on chess.com and wants to play, pm me. my rating hovers between 1150 and 1200.
  17. The record is produced and written by DC saxophonist and producer Billy Frazier. Eleventh Commandment on Chess has to be DC. Sorry I said Boston before.
  18. Also, I pulled out my copy of Eleventh Commandment and I was wrong. This is what the dude wrote on the sleeve: ----- Very Hard to Find Apollo Group From Washington DC WQSR Classic Summer of 1973 Nice Ballad 11th commandment ---- I googled and WQSR broadcasts from Baltimore.
  19. The DJ before me (Bob Miner) did a Eugene Pitt interview, if I can't get some confirmation from someone else first I'll go to the source to see what Eugene says. Thanks.
  20. while I'm sure there are collectors, I seriously doubt that the scene is collector oriented. There might be some obscure records that get played, but not because there are "rare beach" DJs but rather because they were actually local hits. A collector or even a hardcore music fan is someone who constantly seeks out new material. Most people don't have that mindset; they want to hear songs that they are familiar with over and over again. It's no different than the people on the northern scene who want to hear the same "oldies" or the Steppers scene in chicago where there is like a set canon of records everyone wants to hear (e.g. jeff perry "love's gonna last") with some occasional additions (e.g. R Kelly step in the name of love).
  21. You're saying that they were registering content on youtube as theirs when it wasn't (first taking down other people's version of that content)? It seems weird, just because it would work for videos that people posted of random records they bought, but I assume it would actually hit a copyright owner fairly fast, they would retaliate, and the company's scheme would be revealed when multiple copyright owners contacted youtube. Anyways with imageshack it's different I think because they don't have the same revenue model. When people embed images on a webpage, it doesn't earn money for the imageholder's account does it? I've noticed that there used to be like every record ever on youtube and now it's hard to find anything. I couldn't figure out what was happening and it seemed to start happening when they implemented their new search. I assumed it just wasn't showing search results. I thought they were maybe cracking down on copyright violations, but there's no way that someone made a claim on the super obscure records I was looking for. I then thought maybe they cracked down and closed the accounts of copyright violators, so if they had other videos that violated (including the ones I'm looking for), all their videos would be taken down. I guess what you're saying now is another potential explanation. I was reading the other day about how to beat the youtube audio fingerprinting. Apparently you either have to add so much noise that the noise floor is like 50% and it overwhelms the song, or you have to pitch the track up or down by at least 5%. I was wondering if that's why there are so many audio tracks on youtube that play too fast, I had previously assumed it was some sort of glitch on uploading / conversion, etc.
  22. it could have hit some sort of too-broad filter that automatically searches for something else, I doubt someone reported it. Robb, you should use photobucket, it's much better in my experience.
  23. every time i see this thread title I'm confused for a few seconds thinking this is about soul fans playing chess, as in the game. I guess you might have done that intentionally.
