  1. will go through this tonight and see what i can add, if anything.
  2. i won it, it was a good but not amazing sweet soul record. sweet soul is apparently not to your liking, different strokes for different folks.
  3. They sound totally different. Of course I confused the names myself above, I think the uploader must have done the same.
  4. you're taking a probably mislabelled youtube video as evidence of this or am I missing something?
  5. it actually is almost impossible to send a message via youtube now, i've tried, i think you have to use google+ now which I don't use. i also don't wanna ask "Hi, just wondering, are you Black?"
  6. I bought the handitrax when it just came out, like the week it came out. I still use it, at one point it was submerged in water for two days and it still works. The price has recently doubled because it has become popular with hiphop DJs to set up in the park, etc., with them. Also,
  7. dave, can you post an updated discography so i can see what the holes are? Thanks.
  8. It's amazing the scare factor that goes on with soul records. If I have one copy of a record that I want to quickly sell (because I need money) so I price it relatively low, people will think I have ten. If I price it high I'll get a bunch of PMs. If I have 2 copies and say I have two copies, people will assume I have 50 or it's even been bootlegged. I know there are a lot of shady dealers out there but the gossip scare factor is over the top.
  9. now I realize I've further confused myself. "only yesterday" is by "priscilla price". the early '60s records are by "priscilla page". They're different people right? There is no similarity in the voices.
  10. Hi Roy, thanks so much for the clarification. My name is Bob Abrahamian, I do a radio show in Chicago called "Sitting in the Park" (archived online at www.sittinginthepark.com) as well as just being a general soul music collector / fan, etc. I've played records you've produced on my show. Thanks again!
  11. Hi Roy, thanks so much for answering my questions, i really appreciate it. One last follow up question -- are you saying that you recorded "Quiet Home" in 1963 with the other two cuts, and it wasn't released until you sold Sammy the masters and he released it? Or are you saying that you only sold him the masters of "another tear must fall" and "it's goodbye" and Sammy himself recorded "Quiet home"? And if the latter is the case (Sammy recorded "quiet home"), do you know that it was the same girls singing? Sorry to be confused, I just want to get all the facts clear. Thanks again for your help.
  12. thanks everyone
  13. I saw the CD, I didn't want to buy it just to find out the race of Priscilla, if it even said it. Does anyone have the CD and know if it confirms anything? Thanks in advance.
  14. Does anyone have any info on singer Priscilla Page from Detroit? I'm interested in her career, if she sang with any groups, etc. Also, does anyone have a photo? This is sort of an embarassing question, but I'm wondering if she was White or Black. Her '60s sides sound super pop / White but her '70s cuts like "only yesterday" are super soulful and she sounds Black on them. Thanks in advance for any info.
  15. What's the easiest way to start a blog like this, each post would have some text, a record photo, and audio which I can host elsewhere. Tumblr? Another type of promo which I've seen (but don't own any of) are ad acetates used to promote specific shows that radio stations would run.
  16. I've never seen a yellow press of the ideals on 468, only the mighty lovers. Have you? interested in seeing a scan. I'm pretty sure the 108 Ideals was first though, at least before the mighty lovers.
  17. you should post the number of PMs you get from different people
  18. Hi Roy. I think you said this already, but just a clarification -- you are saying that the Chevelles and the Sea Shells are exactly the same group, just with a name change, correct? Do you remember the names of the members of the group? Do you know if any of the members recorded in any other groups? A couple more questions: the Chevelles record came out in 1964 and the Sea Shells record came out in 1968. If the second record was supposed to be a follow up, do you know the reason for the 4-year gap? Also, you said that you released the Chevelles 45 on your label instead of having the Dixie Cups record it. Are you saying that Butane was your label? The other Butane record I know are by the Laddins (who were from New York) and the Mar-Vells (who were from Miami). Thanks so much for coming on here and asking questions, it's so rare that we get to talk to the producers / writers themselves and get first hand accounts of what happened. I hope you are doing well.
  19. at least i wasn't being a fascist again
  20. I don't own this but just FYI, refosoul no longer hosts audio, someone would have to put it onto youtube, divshare, soundcloud, or some other hosting site.
  21. The Joe Masters record mentioned is a mistake, it's a TX boogaloo label and it's 1003 not 103:
  22. Also, I apologize in advance for not correctly using the subjunctive case in my previous post if that also makes me a fascist or any other sort of problematic figure.
  23. I apologize for being a fascist. I asked Barry what his policy was, he says that if the buyer doesn't want to pay $50 for tracked global priority mail, they can choose a cheaper option as long as they accept responsibility if the package is lost. You apparently didn't want to do that so instead you came on here to badmouth him (I apologize, you only "warned" people about him -- your own words), a reputable dealer. If your first post was actually clear it would have said that you were warning people that they needed to accept responsibility for lost packages if they wanted a cheaper mailing rate than $50. Is any of this incorrect? Is any of this fascist? Please advise.
  24. What about people who are just crappy graders? That is a subjective line and I'm sure few are reported to you. There are people I've bought off here who I wouldn't buy from again, I didn't report them. That's significantly worse than not agreeing on shipping. For the record, I'm far from the most conservative grader here too, I'm talking about ridiculous overgrading. I just make a mental note to not buy from them again and move on.
  25. He didn't rip you off, he was straightforward and answered your questions, you couldn't agree on the terms, and you cancelled the transaction. Does that merit you coming on here and badmouthing him? What are you warning people about, that they will waste a few minutes of time and be annoyed? There are so many actually shady record dealers who overgrade, lie, etc. (many on here), I don't think your post was merited. For the record, he's a conservative grader, and he deals in rock / garage a lot more than soul, I don't know if that influences his shipping policy. EDIT: and I don't particularly know him well or buy from him a lot either, I would do the same for any random dealer you made the same complaint about.
