  1. I don't think anyone was saying it would sell for a few hundred dollars or that nobody would see it. But, for example, it might sell for $7000 instead of $14000. On lower priced items, the same logic applies, except some of those things could also go under the radar completely.
  2. The problem would be that you didn't put in the maximum you wanted to pay, not that you shouldn't have sniped. If you knew that bidding at $50 and getting outbid meant that you would pay $100, then $50 wasn't your max bid. All you're describing by rebidding is knocking up the price in a bidding war. Your true maximum is a little more than you want to pay, so if you get outbid by 1 cent you wouldn't have wanted to pay that extra cent.
  3. Good luck with your sale. Thanks.
  4. what happened to this guy? I know he couldn't possibly be on ebay now with the DSRs counting, but he dropped off the radar years ago. The best was reading his negative feedback about selling fake autographs, I always thought that was funny.
  5. aren't you the person who brought up this specific topic in this thread?
  6. gixen.com is a free sniping service, everyone should snipe. Sure, you can put in the max you want to pay earlier, but wouldn't it be better to get the item for significantly less? You can reinvest the difference in more records. I have never ever seen the CODs for sale and was thinking about bidding 5k on it (not that I can afford to spend that on a record but this is like once in a lifetime almost) but figured I'd just be knocking up the price of the record before it goes to new york and that just hurts me. Still wish it wasn't posted, at least it would have gone for less, setting some value history.

  8. I have a traditions promo with ruby tuesday on both sides. Some seller was confused and had that up (a $5 record) a few years ago, I emailed the seller saying only the one with the b-side was valuable, but apparently the buyers were also confused and bid it up over $100
  9. he also had a couple 45s under his own name and put out 3 modern 45s by a group called the gadgets
  10. no it's not the same person. this Kenny Wells was a local chicago guy whose band played on those records. He's one of the 4 owners of the Lock label (He's the "k"). He is really nice but doesn't remember the combinations.
  11. Thanks, I did not notice that. However, I'm still pretty sure it's a different group, the writer they claim for that song is different that the combinations kellmac 45 and the combinations on kellmac is a mixed male/female (and most likely Black) group. I also think they are not related to the georgia combinations on Kimtone.
  12. that is not the combinations on kellmac. that is the "bump ball" group.
  13. Robb, have you seen the Dreams 45?
  14. Here is the Kellmac from Dave's site. 1002 should be Roger Paschall. Roger had a later 45 with a pic sleeve, I think he's passed away now, but also think he was a member of the summits on united international. I have a double of the Paschall title to sell / trade if there's any label collectors here. 1001 - Ruby Stackhouse - Wishing / Please Tell Me - 1965 1002 - Roger Pasll - The Shovel / Take The Stand 1003 - The C.O.D.'S - Michael / Cry No More 1004 - Paul Bascomb - Paul's Back / Michael (The Lover) 1005 - The C.O.D.'S - I'm A Good Guy / Pretty Baby 1006 - The Dreams - Young Man / Silent Gossip 1007 - The Combinations With Kenneth Wells & Band - Why / Come Back 1008 - The C.O.D.'S - I'm Looking Out For Me / I'll Come Running Back To You 1009 - Paul "Guitar Red" Johnson With Kenneth Wells Band - Red Rock / That I Love You 1010 - The C.O.D.S - She's Fire / It Must Be Love 1011 - The Combinations - Like I Never Did Before / What You Gonna Do 1012 - The C.O.D.'S - Coming Back, Girl / It Must Be Love
  15. The Kellmac label is well documented, but I don't know anyone who has ever seen that dreams 45 and don't know what the original source of that number was.
  16. the story behind this record was dauphine williams was a member of a male vocal group, but the other dudes were flaky and he ended up recording it with the Georgettes (on Merry) backing.
  17. There have been tons of funk groups in Europe since the 90s. I think some are together and contributing to soul. The Timmion guys have their stuff down well, and have put out tracks with older singers (like willie west) but with their background. I haven't seen new vocals groups though, it's a lost art.
  18. Baby Washington is the best version probably, I just am a major fan of falsetto sweet soul and that's what the Dontells do. And it's a totally different arrangement / take on the song. I looked at licensing the dontells version once, it's in BMI under a bunch of permutations of writers for some reason. re: monticellos, Clay McMurray confirmed the buffalo thing and gave first name and a buffalo guy who talked to the group gave the full lineup with last names and it matched all of McMurray's first names.
  19. still very rare btw and i am not lying or trying to talk to the price down (seller is my friend).
  20. I never flipped it over, I will check out it, thanks for the tip. BTW, this Monticellos is from Buffalo, NY (despite recording in detroit) and are the exact same group as Madeline and the Monticellos on de-vel. They have no connection to the group on Cool, who are from Chicago.
  21. I will try to take a pic today and post it
  22. there are more than 2 known copies, I have a copy of the combinations and in some other thread a year or two like 3-4 people noted other copies.
  23. not the cheapest, but the safest way to ship is actually to double box, for example, you put the 45 in a regular, well packed / padded mailer, then put it in a larger box filled with styrofoam peanuts. it's how you're suppposed to ship 78s. I wouldn't even consider it for 45s unless it was a 4-figure record, but I have gotten a few packed that way.
  24. I have slight bending of the shelves on the billy bookcases that are 10+ years old, but it's pretty slight and overall they are the most cost effective way (in my experience) to house a larger collection, and they look pretty good. You have to get a couple extra shelves when buying one to fill up the whole unit.
  25. not in the title, but surely "people get ready" is a train song
