  1. awesome, I'm definitely buying this, just asking since i didn't know it was all in the liner notes. Thanks again.
  2. thanks for further explanation / evidence. I was saying I never knew that. I wonder if it's explicitly documented somewhere, e.g. in the stax book or in billboard or something.
  3. I think in general "repro" is the same as counterfeit, it's a word doowop collectors used for their counterfeit copy 45s and they pretty much never licensed anything. I guess it's possible someone could have licensed a "repro" but they generally would have called it a "reissue".
  4. I've never seen that red one. I think the previous number mel hueston is red or maybe orange, I have to pull it out to check.
  5. was there any explicit text about whether the deposit was refundable or not and if not, is there some legal default in the UK?
  6. touche
  7. I'm pretty sure Roburt mentioned it first. Just messing with you.
  8. Hi Regional. I'm a big fan of pretty much all of your productions, I really appreciate the music you wrote. "girl you better hurry" is one of my favorite records of all time. I'm also helping to edit a book called Soul Harmony Singles that lists soul records by vocal group and tries to list the lineup of the group, etc. Do you know the lineup of the following groups and if members sang in any other groups that recorded: Perfections on Tri-City Brilliance Mahana 21st generations Are the perfections on tri-city the same group as on SVR and Drumhead? Thanks in advance for any info. Also, if you were involved with other group productions that were released on 45, any info would be appreciated. thanks, Bob
  9. yeah, when anyone asks me for a scan for a CD or article, they almost always want a tiff file
  10. this is a not-uncommon pressing error with records. Unless it's like a beatles record, it won't increase the value and potentially can decrease it. I have some like this, it's annoying to keep track of which is the real correct side.
  11. yeah, if it's literally only a couple of LPs, you could just use a mailer and protect them as you would if you were mailing them. If you use a bag that's not really designed well for LPs, you risk corner dings or other problems (which you may or may not care about).
  12. It is a pretty common story for a soul group to be unable to tour or record because one or more of the members got drafted. That mad lads footage that's floating around doesn't even have john gary williams in it...
  13. That is Greg Tormo's website. He has a few other articles on there worth reading, just go to the root of the domain.
  14. I've only ever seen a listing for it: Teejay 208 - The Methods - Pitter Patter (Stop This Rain) / Deserted does that number line up with the ted jarrett catalog? It used to be listed on that japanese guy's page that had a zillion 45s he said he would purchase, and there is a listing in soul harmony singles. I have never seen or heard it. Thanks.
  15. has anyone here ever seen / heard the methods on Tee Jay? I've never seen it and am interested in hearing it. Thanks.
  16. If you blind buy ~1000 45s a month (especially a lot of records that other people didn't care enough to bid on or buy), you're bound to find some good cuts as well as some crappy cuts that you need to play to justify the purchases.
  17. "Come see about me" was a big national hit for nella. What had happened was that the supremes had recorded it but it was only an album cut. Nella's version was the first single release of the record so was the first to get radio play and was a hit. Of course when Berry Gordy heard this he released the single by the supremes and crushed nella.
  18. for a very long time I always misread and said her name as Nella Doods. I might even have older radio shows where I said that. There's just something weird about looking at the name that makes it look wrong for some reason.
  19. choker campbell produced both records. he might have written the music and arrangements too, or he might have just reused the backing track without crediting the music songwriter
  20. that is their first record. I never knew that We Produce was ever a label independent from Stax, I always thought it was a sublabel they created. is that definitely the case that they weren't created by stax? interesting. also, can ANYONE provide any evidence of the 1814 title: 1814 Mr. Cool, That Ain't Cool / Lovin' You Is So Easy (74)
  21. sick photo. i knew they had the rights to this stuff, happy to get a CD of it. Regional Garland's productions were always so awesome, even those Brilliance records in the 80s.
  22. Sorry to have offended, I have mailed records to Italy (and France) without problems. I was saying "I heard" specifically from another message board I'm on that is filled with professional record dealers and record store owners. There definitely are daily complaints about chargebacks from french buyers (usually buyers of "Boogie" records) and I think Italy sometimes gets lumped unfairly with that group. There was a specific thread about the Italian post office where someone was talking about it, I will try to find it. In my experience in the US, I have had the worst delays and most lost packages when ordering from Canada, which is bizarre.
  23. I have only found the yellow / red labelled copies of case of tyme in Chicago. I don't look at rock records though so maybe if I did I would have more experience finding the green one. These copies I found were used and in people's collections, I don't know how they could be considered bootlegs or even non-originals. It may have caught on a little later and got repressed? Either way, I can't imagine that it's more than a year later than the green label.
  24. this pittsburgh seller "mojo boneyard" used to have a monthly auction list. I would always call in in the last half hour to bid top (which I did with all paper auction lists). He also always had some store stock (e.g. of toddling town) that you could buy from him. It looks like he's trying to move some of the stock now in "soul packs".
  25. you might experience a weird phenomenon where styrene 45s you buy in the UK are destroyed on the side you want and ones you buy from the US are only destroyed on the "crap" side
