  1. it doesn't sound like it's sampled from a soul record
  2. the sweet side is killer and sweet soul interest is picking up, but I don't think it's "picked up" to even $300 yet.
  3. what time frame (early 60s, late 60s, early 70s, etc.)?
  4. here it is
  5. i'm sure the ballad was released and it's the same lead singer on the release (if not the same recording) but I can't think of what it is.
  6. is it this guy or just another guy with the same name: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boogie_Bill_Webb because the record sounds really White to me (and the psychedelic guitar solo that comes in at the end doesn't help), but Boogie Bill Webb wasn't white.
  7. a lot of those CDs have nothing to do with rights, many are bootlegs I've also seen people refer to every okeh record as chicago
  8. sure. but detroit label + detroit artist = detroit record for me
  9. either way, count to ten is their best and most common and biggest hit 45. thanks.
  10. I don't understand the billboard chart listing as "my girl is made of candy" is the only one that charted but that track is pretty hard to find. The track that they're known for is "count to ten". it was previously done by derek martin on sue but the spindles version is the hit version. It's also clearly their best cut IMO. If you talk about frankie and the spindles, you're usually talking about "count to ten". I have a couple of photos of the group somewhere. Actually I also have a tour program of their which is sort of cool.
  11. I don't think the gracie darnell is chicago, I think it was just pressed there like many other early detroit soul records. Isn't Sharon McMahon on here or some other board? Someone could ask her as she wrote the song.
  12. what is that large 12 inch looking thing on the record player? is that some sort of 45?
  13. yeah, the flip is killer sweet soul but the value seems to be about the same as the promo since the people paying money are buying it for the uptempo side. Anyways, $300 is above every single copy (over 30 of them) in popsike, except for one outlier at $500 from 2007. And the person who is looking for this is responsible for bidding up the last ebay copy which isn't on popsike yet. $300 is definitely a fair price to pay IMO.
  14. I've never met him in person, one of my only interactions with him was on the phone, where he was just listing off rare group soul records he recently got in his collection. I didn't understand why he was telling me all this, like he just needed to show off to some random guy on the phone. He also didn't mention anything i didn't have or anything that was particularly obscure, it was weird.
  15. the desires record is awesome, I used to have a double but I sent it to manship to auction. my friend is looking for a copy if you know someone who has one to sell or trade. There are at least 20 records Redman produced, a few are extremely rare.
  16. also my copy is a blue label stock, not a promo as in the youtube video
  17. I told brian sears this when he asked me before (so he probably told you) but i have a copy, dante has a copy, and i have seen two other copies for sale. Definitely rare, but there are some george redman productions that are ultra-rare.
  18. I think I posted it here before (might not have), but there is footage on youtube of Rosen on the TV show "pawn stars" trying to sell them a rocking horse.
  19. I have a friend who is willing to pay $300 for a mint copy of the Trumains "Ripe for the picking", as a stock copy, with the b-side "mr magic man". She would also probably consider lesser condition copies for less money. PM me with your email address and info (price, condition, etc.) and I will forward it along to her. Thanks a lot.
  20. this is the first post in the history of the internet that anyone said anything positive about rich rosen's store
  21. tony, i responded to you, but just don't know what a current price on this is. anyone have a price range for a clean copy? thanks.
  22. peabody's closed all of a sudden very recently, maybe a month or two ago. the guys are still doing records but don't have a storefront anymore.
  23. you actually got called a honky, and more than once? that is pretty funny. the only time i ever got called a honky was when i used to live next to this school for behavior disorder kids, they would cuss and call me a honky, it was pretty funny.
  24. oh it did now, i must be wrong. sorry and thanks for dealing with this site!
