  1. the problem with the warner bros singles not being successful had to be due to bad selection of material. They pushed a weak version of a track already done by the Krystal Generation and the Voices of East Harlem. On the second single, "Girl you know that I love you" was awesome but they pushed a sly stone cover. I didn't know that Arthur Jeffries had passed, that is sad news.
  2. anyone who put in a bid and lost can get the full user id of the high bidder by searching for completed items they bid on and not checking "as high bidder only". In the list of items it will show the full, non-masked user id.
  3. here is the full lineup of the group, don't know if it remained the same from like 1970-1975: James Thompson and Arthur Jeffries, both formerly of The Voicemasters, Paul Robinson (deceased). I think I vaguely remember Arthur Jeffries having a webpage or something. This is their best song IMO, this rules so hard:
  4. it sounds the same to me. if you rip the audio of that side I'll record the real record and line them up in a multitrack program so you can confirm / deny your suspicions. Also, if I were bidding on this item, I would be pissed that someone so explicitly pointed it out (yes I know there's another thread about it but the explicit title of this one, plus you being super excited about something else on the record, would probably incite even more people to look and maybe bid). I probably wouldn't make you a recording because of it. I'm not trying to be a jerk, I'm just telling you what most winners would think. Also, I know that sweet soul collectors aren't going to drop hundreds if not a thousand dollars just to get a slightly different mix of a cheap record. A better strategy would be to put in a bid at the lowest possible amount, which will be automatically outbid. Once you get a bid in you can get the ID of the high bidder and send them a message pleading your case (or offer a little money for a recording). If you really posted wanting to find out the high bidder you can PM me and I'll let you know how to get it (not that it's a huge secret).

    Typical Wants

I think andrew morgan has copies of the midnight express record. This is his website, there is a contact form: https://www.peoplespotential.com/ his ebay id is madmosaic if you want to contact him through ebay oh wait, he has it buy it now on ebay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/MIDNIGHT-EXPRESS-Danger-Zone-Modern-Soul-BOOGIE-45-/310372392216?pt=Music_on_Vinyl&hash=item4843a2dd18#ht_1036wt_1025
  6. that's the parliament ripoff thing i was talking about, the LP covers even more so
  7. oh wait, i was just listening to this track and the whole song reminded me of i think an albert collins song?
  8. I think everyone understands you that the actual song is a cover of another song. That's not what the question is about though.
  9. Although I do do what I said above, if I see one copy of a record on the internet that is lower but I feel priced too low I'll also buy it so I can sell my copy for what I think it's worth. The worst is when somebody who is a terrible grader lists a trashed copy as "VG+" and gets some amount. If I'm selling a VG copy for more or even the same amount I'll always get some dude telling me that my copy is worth much less and giving me some lowball offer. This annoyingly happened with a famous person recently who also was like "I reviewed this in and sold it for 10 pounds in 1992". Like that's supposed to mean it's cheap? They should trade me a copy of one of the many other records I need that sold for 10 pounds in 1992. Someone annoyingly stalling on here and then offering less and less did the condition thing to me, the record was dead stock, one side was mint but the other side has a few ugly marks so I graded it VG-. He was quoting VG- popsike copies as comparison points, like there was some objective grading / value combination, it was extremely obnoxious.
  10. I do it as a seller, in that I check all the online sales sites to see if the record is for sale elsewhere for cheaper than I planned to sell it. Sometimes this strategy backfires -- I don't know anything about rock, but someone wanted a garage record I randomly had. I popsiked it and they were all $50+ and the more recent sales were $100+. The guy had agreed to give me $60 but I looked at musicstack and saw there were 2 copies for like $20 and $40 so I couldn't honestly sell it to him for $60, I just let him have it for $20.
  11. yeah, there's a lot of bad information that gets copied and circulated about. I used to see the "interns" record (a garage / pop thing) listed as the intertains. i wish i had a real answer on whether that b-side exists so I can cross it of my want list. the intertains and ambassadors are from cleveland. The ambassadors on uptown are the same group as on debroussard. The intertains have some sort of connection to the entertains on steel town.
  12. it sounds like a jazz or maybe exotica vocal, that production doesn't sound like soul to me
  13. pretty rare. my friend even found the group, they did not have any stock.
  14. I'm trying to figure out a way to edit my post that makes me not look like an idiot and you look bad but can't.
  15. the title of the post is the opposite of the text of the post
  16. yeah, i saw that too, it's funny how many collectors only know the ultra-expensive items. once i saw someone who should have been more knowledgable win a trashed manhattans on carnival where the label had fallen off but where there was a soundclip, for over $100. it wasn't even listed as unreleased, the seller was just like "I don't know what this is".
  17. lots of times it comes with sheet music
  18. I haven't seen a zillion soul train episodes so i'm not the best judge, but that is the best soul train line i've ever seen. i like the track too. i never flipped over "smiling faces". What was motown's intention with the group? I always thought they were supposed to be a toned down and slightly more rockish version of parliament. Obviously by the late 70s LP covers they had the full outer space parliament ripoff thing going on. And so many of their songs were covers of other songs. Were they norman whitfield's main product at motown in the 70s?
  19. I'm pretty sure the epic tracks were completed as one of them appeared on some Japanese compilation LP. But not the other side. I knew the epic UK records were just the UK releases of the t-neck records. FYI, the pzazz record isn't their first record. I have an earlier 45 by the group on the Zina label out of new york, definitely the same group given the credits.
  20. it is him singing. the recording from the auction is identical to the recording from the record in that youtube video.
  21. can you send someone a personal message on twitter? if so, you could send a message to questlove, who is andrew's son. I know someone else probably has a more direct contact, but at least it's an idea if nothing else works.
  22. isn't a publisher's acetate usually a sparse songwriter's demo? because that one side is exactly identical to freddie waters.
  23. the intertains 729 # is listed in some sources as having an alternate b-side -- "I've gotta find out for myself" instead of "need your love". I have never seen this and can't find much evidence of this, except one person on the entire internet saying their copy has "I've gotta find out for myself." It sort of sounds like an error where someone listened to "gotta find a girl" and misinterpreted the lyrics. Can anyone provide any evidence for the alternate 729 flipside? I would say it definitely is an error except for one person on the internet saying their copy (which is a canadian press) has "I've gotta find out for myself." I thought maybe it was the canadian presses that had that title but there is (or at least was) one on Manship's site and it has the regular 729 flip. Thanks in advance for any info.
  24. thanks. does the epic single exist? I don't even think it exists on a UK or other country press.
  25. Hi. Does anyone have a copy of this 45? Does it even exist? One of the sides is on a Japanese comp but it could have been unreleased from tapes. Any info would be appreciated (a scan would be awesome). The specific info is this: Epic 50437 - Got to Find Myself Another Baby / Weeping Willow Tree Thanks in advance.
