  1. it's a late 70s or early 80s reissue (obviously the original montclairs 45 was from the 70s). that's why it's got the pink style paula labels instead of the red. there was a mispressing on that side.
  2. another great 70s track from them is their version of summer breeze. Also, "I turned you on". Their earliest hit in chicago was the two-sider "your old lady" / "write to me" on atlantic. I really like that record. "who's that lady" on UA also got play here.
  3. this is really nice, haven't heard this side before. not a "girl group" though. thanks.
  4. ok, well it's good to know you enjoy the sound. good luck with your sales. I probably bought from you on ebay before. Thanks.
  5. artists like de la soul and the jungle brothers sampled soul, jazz, and funk records. in the 90s people started digging for ethnic, prog, lounge, etc., anything with a moody loop. In one of the samples above somebody's even singing in a foreign language (greek?). These aren't the types of tracks people are going to be able to identify unless you get extremely lucky.
  6. Thank you. I see ohiosoulrecordings.com also agrees with you. I think "stuff" got played in Chicago, I used to find it a lot.
  7. if you have a smart phone you can download the app. you just point your phone at a song, click a button to take a sample of it, and it does audio fingerprint matching against its database. obviously most obscure stuff isn't in there but you might get lucky with a track or two.
  8. When the samples include ethnic and weird lounge records, I don't think that even a person with general music knowledge about 70s music, no matter how deep, will know what these are. Hopefully you find something. Did you try Shazam'ing them on a cell phone?
  9. I would need to see photos to see if any of the other vegetables work effectively. If you know someone with a record flattening machine, in general they don't work well on 45s, but dish warps are the things they are most effective on.
  10. Like the other one, I'm pretty sure most of these are also not samples of soul records. I did like the first sample in your second post, that was dope. Also, all of these songs may be covers of albert collins tracks.
  11. This isn't really rare, I just searched the main record sales sites and only saw one trashed one for sale, which was weird. maybe someone bought up a bunch of the copies. anyways, craig moerer has it VG+ (which is probably very clean, some other people's NM) for $20. There are a couple more on gemm for less than $20 but they are from canada so you might pay more in postage, plus craig moerer is reliable.
  12. there is an answer record to mr soft touch by the marvels on mercury. i always wondered what connection there was between some random white group on mercury and jeanette williams. like was there a bigger song they were both responding to? I think jeanette was from detroit, any info on her?
  13. The OP is not a soul collector, they are a store looking to maximize the sales price of records they get. That's why the title contradicts the text.
  14. ebay is the devil's work
  15. you're right, posting on a message board telling anyone who reads it and wins the record to record it for you is much more effective than sending a message through ebay to the winning ebay user politely asking for a recording and interacting with them directly.
  16. God places no restrictions on your hair -- he accepts you as you are
  17. I have for sale a copy of Fifth Avenue featuring Carol Townes "Love has found my heart". Awesome, still under the radar Patrick Adams production, listen on youtube (not my copy): This cut is very hard to find as it's only available on the much rarer stock copy (the a-side "wheeler dealer" isn't good). Condition is VG++ (UK would be EX), some light scuffs. Also, the labels are reversed. $125 plus $3 shipping US, $7 overseas. Paypal only. A few of these turned up a few years ago but are long gone, I had to pay just under $200 for my personal copy 5-6 years ago and I had been looking for a while. PM or email boba@panix.com to reserve. Thank you.
  18. [total jerk post removed]
  19. that hair is insane
  20. They just pressed up a new unreleased track, I think it's called Down and Out.. I bought one, I like it a lot, it's maybe too slow for people here though. I also previously bought a whole CD with a bunch of unreleased material from them but never listened to it. It's awesome though because the cover make it looks like a karaoke CD.
  21. Definitely should have been in the description. For me a non-even warp is worse than a dish warp though, if it also was warped on top of being dished that sucks. re: playback, I don't notice any difference in dished records on my not-that-great stereo but I have heard more audiophile types complaining about the play of dished LPs as well as the needle even damaging the LPs by not wearing against both sides evenly. I can't imagine it makes a huge or immediate difference though.
  22. I apologize for the delay in getting these two shows online, but now I have two new things up. The first is an interview with brother and sister Archie Brooks and Sharona Brooks. Both were members of Cabrini Green groups. Archie was the original lead singer of the Fugitives until he left to join Master Plan Inc. Sharona Brooks and her two older sisters recorded a single record as Bettye Scott and the Del-Vettes. The record had a classic Chicago sound and was even released on two different labels; however, the group never made any more secular recordings. You can listen to the interview at the bottom of my interviews page at: https://www.sittinginthepark.com/interviews.html'>https://www.sittinginthepark.com/interviews.html Last Sunday I did an all-music show. It was a pretty cool show and I played some genres that I don't usually play (e.g. funkier records at the start). You can download the show directly from: https://www.sittinginthepark.com/4-8-2012.mp3?'>https://www.sittinginthepark.com/4-8-2012.mp3? You can find more music shows on my webpage at https://www.sittinginthepark.com . Also, sad news, but Michael Sharkey of the Fugitives, the previous person I interviewed at the end of November, passed away recently. Despite only releasing a few records, he was involved with making a lot of great music and will be missed. Also, if anyone wants to volunteer their web design time to redesign my ridiculously long radio shows webpage (the page that has all the links and playlists) and / or get my show listed on iTunes, please let me know. Also, next week is the station's annual pledge drive, so please consider donating money if pososible. Thanks again for your interest and the playlist for my 4/8/2012 show follows. 23. I don't doubt it but the publisher is pushing the song, a producer's acetate would be pushing the entire recording. The songwriter or publisher probably wouldn't want to pay for the whole production just to shop the song around unless they thought it would make a big difference or if they were also hoping to produce the record.
  24. I'm pretty sure you mean neo-experience. I think my copy of that one is the more plain design, but I might be thinking of their other 45 and would have to pull them out to check.
  25. I wasn't questioning you, just noting that it was sad news
