  1. I meant first class international, US to outside the US, sorry I was not clear. That is pretty much the cheapest price you can get sending a 45 in a mailer to the UK. Anyone still charging $6 is losing money and are still on the old rates.
  2. US postage went up, a regularly packed single 45 now costs $6.90 for first class and more packaging / records make the price even higher.
  3. you should definitely record them with a mono cart / stylus, which rides in a totally different part of the groove (much higher) than a stereo stylus. Records that are styrene burnt from stereo carts will often play great with a mono cart because it doesn't touch the damaged parts of the groove. If you have a record that plays styrene burnt in mono you should try a stereo cart to see if it sounds better.
  4. I think there was a bidding war on ebay when it came up with a sound clip, and that's not a real, sustained value. But in the last few months a few copies went for over $100, a mint one went for $200 recently, which I think is crazy. I'm not sure all the people bidding know this is a stylistics cover...
  5. thanks for looking I appreciate it. Anyone else? Anyone have any comment on if this is rare / valuable? I never really paid attention to all their singles before for some reason until last night I was looking what I was missing.
  6. I checked and I don't have it. I think either Ady Pierce or Dave Thorley got it, you might want to try them. I might have a beat up copy somewhere else, I will check tomorrow.
  7. Hi. I'm looking for Magic City 015 - mad dog and the pups - Look into my eyes. It's the last mad dog and the pups 45 I need and one of two magic city 45s I still need. Cash or trade, if you want to trade send some wants and tell me what styles you like. Also, I have no idea on the value of this 45. Thanks.
  8. I don't know if it was northern or sweet people (sweet side is killer) but the sweet soul dudes seem to bid crazy when there's something they want.
  9. I've had a few copies. I think I traded one to Ady Pierce recently, although I might still have it, I can check. I also think Ady Pierce has the Allen record you're looking for. That guy was one of the knight brothers.
  10. you should check out dj melismo's podcasts in the audio/video subforum. I'm impressed with his knowledge of soul music 1980 and onwards.
  11. you have good taste, thanks for sharing
  12. ebay email support is also all form letters. to get anywhere with ebay (or most services) you have to call and talk to a real person.
  13. it seems like an item that you wanted, I don't see the point of fighting over a few dollars. I would have paid it and then asked for a refund in line with the description. If I got no response I would open up a paypal claim for overcharging on shipping (at least that used to be an option). I'd imagine the seller would do an immediate refund of the extra shipping and if not paypal will get it back anyways. Then, if you care enough, you can negative him.
  14. you know there's like at least two dozen covers of the song? many of them are from hispanic groups from san antonio.
  15. or maybe max and the flaps? now i'm confused
  16. It means "Max". Translated the group name is "Max and the Flips". Here is an interesting history: https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/-izzle
  17. I'm pretty sure this is semi-known by funk collectors. This was on ebay a month ago, from that guy selling some deceased milwaukee collector's records, didn't even crack $150. Last year it was on ebay also, but it was from that shady Japanese seller that kept listing (clearly overgraded) records, shill bidding them, and relisting them. So I don't know if it sold. It generally doesn't come up for sale that much though.
  18. yeah, and the other side is a vietnam song. the "mizax" is actually the snoop dogg speak, it predates snoop dogg. That's what the lost generation "talking the teenage language" is about. max kidd is that crazy seller on ebay "nebraskablack" that for some reason sells (or at least lists) mostly steeltown stock.
  19. This is from the hy lit TV show in philly. Lots of incredible color footage from this show -- the destinations, the interpretations ("snap out"), the fidelics, brenda and the tabulations, etc.
  20. I don't think he is crazy, but there was an online battle between him and James Trouble about the pressing of the 45, etc. What's insane is expecting an outsider to understand the crazy rules and values of northern soul record collecting. The person doing the selling is his son (or at least was, I talked to him on the phone once a long time ago).
  21. This was very honorable of you. I used to feel strongly about this (I pretty much only buy on ebay, not sell), now I'm glad if the seller is willing to split the difference. EDIT: "this" means selling it to them for one bid increment higher than the 3rd bidder
  22. I said this before but he has a good radio voice. I listened to the first half hour and overall the quality was better than the first one I listened to. There were still some White pop things that i skipped over and a few weak tracks. I couldn't resist leaving a smartass comment though. There are a lot of good silver Bell records, those were actually some weaker choices IMO.
  23. I agree with cobbles. If you think you've been wronged, it probably is better to call them up and discuss it versus first going public (although I understand you needed confirmation about whether it was a boot or not before knowing the situation so you had to at least ask publicly initially). Also, in record collecting, you have wins and losses, you could chalk it up to experience. I don't know manship's motivations either, maybe he thought it was a boot also? I think you should talk to him directly before posting more.
  24. John Anderson told me he had a few of them at one point. Not common though.
