  1. the people you are talking about who are passionate about the scene highlights my point about them not being able to even imagine any other type of record buyer. There are even lots of people in the UK who like "soul music" in a similar way to how they like jazz, rock, funk, etc. People who buy reissues of Al Green LPs. Northern Soul DJs are a very tiny percentage of buyers in the grand scheme of things.
  2. This is a critical point imo. This message board is so elite-DJ and centered around a specific scene that people can't understand who would buy a 45 reissue. In reality the market for these is not really the northern soul attendee or elite northern soul DJ market. There are hundreds of people who buy records, usually in multiple genres... the type of people who shop at dusty groove, for example, and buy all sorts of LP reissues, CDs, etc. Some of these people even DJ. For example, there might be a DJ night at a bar where the DJs play a mix of mod, soul, reggae, played off a mix of originals and reissues, LPs and 45s. It's good that good music is made available to these people and original artists get recognized / paid. Records have an audience beyond a tiny group of elite and wannabe elite DJs on the UK northern soul scene.
  3. you could have just stopped posting in this thread and it effectively would be the same thing
  4. I saw that, I actually didn't know the record until I saw that auction. I posted because I didn't one to pay for one in that condition. I checked and it is a "known" record. I will pay 100 pounds for a clean original copy, which seems like the going rate. Anyone? Thanks in advance.
  5. no, only one side would have the gun. i guess that could put the odds in that person's favor though.
  6. Whether he makes sense or not there still isn't going to be a rational discussion on this topic. In the US it would be like arguing gun control or abortion, there isn't going to be a resolution. Either way we agree this topic is not useful.
  7. You are not going to win this argument on here. There isn't going to be a rational discussion of your different points. The reason some people posted annoyed responses is that this exact thread has been done here like a dozen times. If I were you, I would do what you believe and move on to participating in other threads. Welcome to soul source.
  8. I think it's much more unlikely that she and her arranger collaborated with two major songwriters / producers from another country, to write songs for a major act on epic, and then had their named removed in the actual copyright record and the record itself.
  9. for what it's worth there are a zillion record labels rarer than shrine
  10. Hi. On Sunday I did a music show. Unfortunately it was only about 45 minutes as the NATO summit and poor route choices made me very late for my show (I did get to see large crowds of policemen in riot gear just standing around waiting to be deployed...). Anyways, you can listen to the show directly at: https://www.sittinginthepark.com/5-20-2012.mp3?'>https://www.sittinginthepark.com/5-20-2012.mp3? 11. yeah it's even harder with the gospel records because they modify the songs to be about God, etc., often enough to be a derivative composition. But the BPS revolution is like a straight cover.
  12. I don't know about boots, but there are so many reissues because there are tons of tiny reissue labels in the US and UK trying to license material and build up a catalog
  13. welcome to the lion's den. you violated the primary dogma of soul source.
  14. what reissue label do you run?
  15. Looking for a decent condition copy of Neil Reed on Music Now. Please PM with price and condition. Thank you.
  16. I noted this in another thread, but although it has no credits on the record, BPS Revolution brotherly love is a straight soundalike cover of the main ingredient.
  17. the closest I can think of is the Out-a-site stuff, but although they replicate the label design, they are clearly marked
  18. I can't think of a single lookalike legit reissue. Lookalikes are usually bootlegs designed to trick somebody. Who does lookalike reissues?
  19. yeah he claims it got stolen from him when he went to some convention to promote the record. But that doesn't violate the "OVO" code, it was pressed in like '75.
  20. I live on ebay. Have you seen the movie Videodrome? My life is like that but with ebay instead of videodrome. p.s. I don't think this will go away soon, it's been like this for years
  21. Just to be clear, Dutch LP, right? I have a Cane and Abel 45, "girl you move me", on canadian GRT. That is their only 45 right?
  22. I think it's "Rockway Jay". at some point I'm not sure how much I care about the originals if reissues were pressed from the same plates and have very similar labels and there are like 5 variations of originals. People have to spend tons of time documenting all the different ones, often based on speculation that turns out to be wrong. If there's no 100% sure way to determine if a record is original (other than it turning up in old stock / someone's basement that hasn't been touched since the 70s) I don't see the point in jumping through hoops to make sure you have "OVO" on that title.
  23. is the cane and abel on 45 or LP only? If on 45 what country? Thanks.
  24. Also, I just realized, this is the record that they just reissued on a brown label that I was asking about buying wholesale. I was trying to buy copies because the "down and out" side is good sweet soul. If you look at the Cole 45, "down and out" is the a-side. They just redid "gold of my life" as a random b-side. So it's not as bad as some people are making it out to be.
