I Finally Saw A "diamond In The Back"
you have Charen Cotton on Art, same label the Beck Family was on, and it has a different b-side. Garethx, I totally didn't know that the label was run that way, awesome details. It makes sense given that they reused so many backing tracks. The second biggest hit they had btw was Spice on Sound Gems, it charted nationally. It's actually the Chicago Spice that's on Cle-An-Thair. Concept was their pop label. I got the Mark Jarjisian 45 the other day at a friend's house, he gave it to me for free. Not soul by any stretch, and I would think it's terrible, but I'm super psyched that it's an Armenian dude and enjoy the a-side at least (as a pop record, I really like light psychedelic pop, e.g. the poppy family). The b-side was so bad that the ethnicity couldn't excuse it though. I'm confused about one thing -- I didn't know Omega was their label. Almost all the Fred Mark 45s reuse tracks off of Virtue 45s. How would they get access to those tracks, they didn't run Virtue did they?

Ian Levine's May Podcast Now Available
i got annoyed at the introduction bragging about the "amazing 15 hours" of rare soul music and then saying the jones girls are from chicago and I stopped it (even though I do like that Jones girls song). EDIT: i skipped to the next song, eugene gamble on jetstream, really nice cut i haven't heard before. now the player crashed though.

I Finally Saw A "diamond In The Back"
The line is "sun roof top". I'm not sure, it's weird, it looked like the soft cover that goes over a convertible but I think it's not a convertible. They definitely had a gangster lean.

I Finally Saw A "diamond In The Back"
Two days ago I was driving and stopped at a stoplight at the near north side of Chicago. I'm looking at the traffic on the cross street and I see this pimped out caddy come by. It is painted like two slightly different shades of light blue / periwinkle and there's a bunch of blue felt all over parts of the car which made it look super-pimp. But most importantly it had the rear diamond shaped window. I can't believe I live in the city of pimps and have been looking for a diamond in the back for like 15 years and never seen one before.

interesting, thanks! I hope you become successful.

The Sudden Abundance Of Re-Issues / Boots
haha I do, however, recognize that people posting on an internet message board, are not necessarily representative of the real world.
-
The Sudden Abundance Of Re-Issues / Boots
the people you are talking about who are passionate about the scene highlights my point about them not being able to even imagine any other type of record buyer. There are even lots of people in the UK who like "soul music" in a similar way to how they like jazz, rock, funk, etc. People who buy reissues of Al Green LPs. Northern Soul DJs are a very tiny percentage of buyers in the grand scheme of things.
-
The Sudden Abundance Of Re-Issues / Boots
This is a critical point imo. This message board is so elite-DJ and centered around a specific scene that people can't understand who would buy a 45 reissue. In reality the market for these is not really the northern soul attendee or elite northern soul DJ market. There are hundreds of people who buy records, usually in multiple genres... the type of people who shop at dusty groove, for example, and buy all sorts of LP reissues, CDs, etc. Some of these people even DJ. For example, there might be a DJ night at a bar where the DJs play a mix of mod, soul, reggae, played off a mix of originals and reissues, LPs and 45s. It's good that good music is made available to these people and original artists get recognized / paid. Records have an audience beyond a tiny group of elite and wannabe elite DJs on the UK northern soul scene.

you could have just stopped posting in this thread and it effectively would be the same thing

Neil Reed On Music Now
I saw that, I actually didn't know the record until I saw that auction. I posted because I didn't one to pay for one in that condition. I checked and it is a "known" record. I will pay 100 pounds for a clean original copy, which seems like the going rate. Anyone? Thanks in advance.

The Sudden Abundance Of Re-Issues / Boots
no, only one side would have the gun. i guess that could put the odds in that person's favor though.

The Sudden Abundance Of Re-Issues / Boots
Whether he makes sense or not there still isn't going to be a rational discussion on this topic. In the US it would be like arguing gun control or abortion, there isn't going to be a resolution. Either way we agree this topic is not useful.
-
The Sudden Abundance Of Re-Issues / Boots
You are not going to win this argument on here. There isn't going to be a rational discussion of your different points. The reason some people posted annoyed responses is that this exact thread has been done here like a dozen times. If I were you, I would do what you believe and move on to participating in other threads. Welcome to soul source.

Years Ago...for A Moment...this Was Northern Soul....is It Now?
I think it's much more unlikely that she and her arranger collaborated with two major songwriters / producers from another country, to write songs for a major act on epic, and then had their named removed in the actual copyright record and the record itself.

for what it's worth there are a zillion record labels rarer than shrine

Sitting In The Park 5-20-2012
Hi. On Sunday I did a music show. The Sudden Abundance Of Re-Issues / Boots
I don't know about boots, but there are so many reissues because there are tons of tiny reissue labels in the US and UK trying to license material and build up a catalog

Looking for a decent condition copy of Neil Reed on Music Now. Please PM with price and condition. Thank you.

The Sudden Abundance Of Re-Issues / Boots
the closest I can think of is the Out-a-site stuff, but although they replicate the label design, they are clearly marked

The Sudden Abundance Of Re-Issues / Boots
I can't think of a single lookalike legit reissue. Lookalikes are usually bootlegs designed to trick somebody. Who does lookalike reissues?
