  1. I didn't think there was anything particularly crazy in the auction results this week, they looked normal, obviously some stuff going a little high and some stuff going a little low.
  2. I still don't understand why you keep posting live auctions but in this case you're posting live auctions that you're actually planning to bid on. Don't you think that undermines your interest in keeping the auction as low profile as possible, which means fewer people will see them, any of whom can knock up your bid or even outbid you?
  3. Are you still looking for him? Because I heard a story about him about a year ago collaborating with a notorious NY music guy. You can PM me if you care...
  4. the kemp release is much rarer than the jay pee release. The whole reason to get the kemp release is the other side "A portrait of god's love", a nice crossover sound also done as "I love you" on the Eight Minutes LP.
  5. that london fogg record you have listed above also came out on a local label before being picked up nationally. I don't remember the name right now, I have it, it's a gold label with some stars on it.
  6. I don't know much about her (I like the deep side on that coconut love 45 even though there's no group...) but I have a 45 by some new york funk group where someone pencilled in "vocals by the late great brenda jones", I will try to find it and scan it.
  7. There was a really funny saturday night live sketch with Queen Latifah as the host where she plays an old double-entendre style r&b singer except at the end of each song she ruins it by being super explicit.
  8. for that one, though, i don't think an alternate meaning of "backdoor" is even implied, although the song clearly is about sneaking in to have sex. Also, I thought howling wolf did the song initially? what I want to know is what is sexual about "bowlegged woman" -- probably something, I just don't get it.
  9. I don't think I've played either record on my show, were there brothers? I assume they were just some local blues guys. Sorry I don't have more info, I will ask around and let you know if I find anything. Thanks.
  10. nice cut. The other kemp 45 he has isn't very good btw.
  11. I'm selling them on consignment for my friend and he had some and just wanted to dump them. I think there's only 2 left but I'm not sure.
  12. I recently started a sales list. My goal is to sell quality records that I personally enjoy (and if I am selling a record I don't like for some reason I'll say so). I also try to highlight under-the-radar titles that are good, in all price ranges. I want to primarily sell to people on my sales list that are interested and will only post the leftovers after all the direct-list sales have cleared. I sent my first list out a few weeks ago, all transactions are complete, so here are the remaining records. They still are quality records and a few of them I had multiple copies of which is why they still appear below. If you want to get on my email list for future sales lists, send me a message at sitpsales@gmail.com. I am planning to send out a new list in a week or two. The list will focus on female artists / groups. To reserve a record, I prefer that you send an email to sitpsales@gmail.com. Thanks in advance for your interest. ------- Postage: US (includes delivery confirmation) - $3.50, for one 45, 25 cents for each additional 45. Overseas (first class international) - $7 for one 45, $1 for each additional 45. I am not trying to make money on postage and will refund the difference if charged postage is ever a dollar or more than actual postage; however, I'm not checking every postal receipt so you would have to notice it on arrival and ask me. Grading: Grading scale: NM/VG++/VG+/VG/VG-/G+/G/G-/F/P. Since people don't all grade consistently, I tried to describe flaws in any lesser graded items in more detail. A NM record should be very clean and have only one or two marks at most. A VG++ record should be similar with a few more marks. A VG record should still have full or very close to full surface gloss. There should be no feelable marks -- it might have moderate surface scratching or scuffing that generally won't affect play. All records should play fine, even G and lower, unless specific problems are noted. Returns: If you get a record and there is a problem, you can return it for a full refund. Payment: Paypal preferred. My paypal address is boba@panix.com. Will take US personal checks or money orders if you wait for the check to clear. ----------------------------------- Numonics - It's so easy to be misled / (Got to give love) one more try - Hodisk - NM - $15 Killer falsetto harmony, from Oakland from 1983 but sounds 10 years earlier. Note that there is a clip on youtube but it is a different version, here is audio of the actual record: https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/numonics%20-%20it's%20so%20easy%20to%20be%20misled%20-%20hodisc.mp3 Child of Friendship Train Robbers (C.O.F.T.R.) - Jackie - Natural Records - $60 - VG++ due to some weird perpendicular scuffing on each side NAP Exact same cut as on Boblo as the Train Robbers but much cheaper. I think this is the first press but I'm not 100%. I'm pretty sure this record is late 70s, but it almost sounds early 80s to me -- it's still real instruments and an analog only synth, it just has an ahead-of-its-time feel for me (especially in the harmony). I used to not like this style of record but now I really do after getting into indie 80s records. I don't currently have one for sale, but the Train Robbers have a killer 70s sweet soul cut called "Will you answer" if you want a more early 70s sound. https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/COFTR%20-%20Jackie%20-%20Natural.mp3 Procedures - Mirror Mirror / inst. - Tra-Mor - NM - $35 Totally excellent mid-70s Chicago sweet soul cut, featuring not only the Procedures (previously known as the Soul Procedures) but also a cool Tom Tom arrangement played by the Curtom studio musicians, top Chicago session players. Funkhouse Express - Day by Day (long) / (short) - Polydor DJ - NM - $35 Funkhouse Express - Day by Day / Funkhouse Theme - Polydor stock in Polydor sleeve - NM - $40 This is the group's only sweet record, but it's really good -- spacey falsetto sweet soul. Unknown, totally off the radar of most sweet soul collectors and hard to find. The stock copy is more expensive because it's much harder to find (as with most Polydor 45s) but may be less desirable if you only want sweet sides. https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/funkhouse%20express%20-%20day%20by%20day%20-%20polydor.mp3 Impalas - I can't see me without you - Red Boy - VG - $10 Really nice spacey falsetto sweet soul from this White group from Brooklyn. This is the first of the 3 labels that it came out on. C# Sharp - My turn to shine - Rock-Candy - NM, one corner fold in pic sleeve - $40 One of the greatest 80s sweet soul 45s. This youtube clip is of the 12" but it sounds the same as the 45 to me. Chosen Few - I'm alone - Faces - NM - $80 Despite being on a Shreveport, LA label, this group is actually a later version of the Significants from Florida. Another "grower" record that took me a few listens to get into; I like it a lot. One Hundred Dollar Bill - Can't get you out of my mind - Dollar Bill - NM - $50 A relatively recent "discovery" to most sweet soul collectors. This is a female group from New York from 1981 but has an indie, low-fi type of sound, more 70s sounding than 80s. The record is nice; if they were better singers it would be a monster. This is uncleaned dead stock, will play better if I clean it. https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/one%20hundred%20dollar%20bill%20-%20can't%20get%20you%20out%20of%20my%20mind%20-%20dollar%20bill.mp3 Errol Gaye and the Imaginations - You don't want my love / Love and affection - Steel Town - NM - $20 A Cleveland group; A-side is a nice sweet soul ballad, to me it sort of has a similar feel to the Four Tracks on Note. Rob Sevier, Numero Group co-owner, says about You don't want my love, "This is extraordinary." He said that unprompted, really. It totally did not relate to me putting it in this list. It does have a really nice kiddie lead also, at first it sounds like a woman singing but it's not. Flip is a nice modern cut. I like both sides, but probably not as much as Rob. You don't want my love: Love and Affection: Four Mints - Why did I go / Can't get strung out - Capsoul - weak VG (almost full gloss but some bigger surface scuff marks on each side), plays great - $45 This is the Four Mints record with the very hard to find (and killer) side "Why did I go". This Capsoul number (26) usually comes with "In a rut" instead of "Why did I go". I don't know exactly why, but I think this title probably was withdrawn (as the song was also released by the Kool Blues on Capsoul 25 and maybe they didn't want two versions of the track competing against each other) and that it was replaced with the more common release. Either way, it's by far the hardest Four Mints record on the label. It took me years to get a copy, although I have seen it a bunch of times since. "Can't get strung out" is really nice also. Why did I go: Can't get strung out: Bobby Lanz and the Celtics - Accept me for what I am - Master Blaster - strong VG+ - $70 Very obscure and under-the-radar record. This is a White group is from Louisvile, KY. Their two 45s on Bridges show up (although one of them is rarer as stock) but this one is better and rarely comes up for sale. I really like the harmony and mellow feel on this. This copy plays much better than this youtube clip. Distance - Paradise - Manna of Distance - NM - $70 A relatively unknown recent discovery for most collectors. Nice slightly midtempo sound with really nice strings and other arrangements. The track has a doubled up lead voice with harmony at other points. It could be all one singer on overdub but it's still really nice. https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/distance%20-%20paradise%20-%20mom.mp3 Opus IV - I could tell - Cotillion - NM - $45 Totally excellent track that is only available on the hard-to-find stock copy. This is the same (Detroit?) group that had a record on the Renaissance label. This is my favorite of the four sides, really nice mid-70s Blue Notes styled track. I think this is not well known (at least it isn't on youtube). This track is almost 6 minutes long. https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/opus%20iv%20-%20I%20could%20tell%20-%20cotillion.mp3 Notations - What more can I say / Leading Lady - VG++, but What more can I say side has an ugly scuff which doesn't affect play - $90 Two excellent sweet soul sides, pretty much in the same vein as their hit "I'm still here", with Clifford Curry singing lead. Their sound didn't change until they went to Gemigo records and the lead of the group changed. What more can I say: Leading Lady: Combination Inc - Love has gone away / People listen (I'm gonna lay my thing) - Arc-lark - VG, lots of light tiny scuffs. Also labels have light ring wear and very light bubbling around the center which gives them less of a "crisp" appearance - $50 Nice detroit 70s group soul (with bass!). Love has gone away is a nice falsetto thing while People listen is Temptations-style group funk. The sweet side is from youtube but the "People listen" side is recorded from this record Love has gone away: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8LKkfAnFrbE People listen: https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/combination%20inc%20-%20gonna%20lay%20my%20thing%20-%20arc-lark.mp3
  13. I've sold lots of records for less than I paid. I've sold lots of records for more than I paid. If you want records to be liquid you have to go both ways.
  14. this is pretty sexy: [media=]
  15. I don't think it was unreasonable. A mint record that just has a red circle drawn in pen on it -- it did go for much less than book or the going price.
  16. it says "used" on it, don't know if it's a stray copy or not.
  17. I'm actually not sure he didn't press it before. I bought their newly pressed 45, mixed emotions "Down and out" / "gold of my life reprise" and it ended up being identical to that Cole label 45 that Sebastian sold that nobody had seen before. Maybe this one is similar and there's a 45 out there that nobody saw before. He did press many variations of it initially and did seem sort of obsessive about changing it / pushing it, etc. It seems that he did lots of tiny runs of different things.
  18. I think there's only one style of US Roulette promo copy, you just have pictures of each side of it. One side is orange/red (stereo) and the other side is white (mono). sorry if you're saying something different and I'm not understanding. Thanks.
  19. haha https://www.ebay.com/...b#ht_500wt_1276 DISCLAIMER: do not buy this for $200
  20. It was recorded in the US, it's the same group as the Magic Touch on Roulette. It's actually a White group from NY, same guys as Vito and the Salutations. The Magic Touch record came out in '73, it charted low but charted on the Billboard R&B charts. I think they changed their name to "Magic Night" on the followup 45, probably because of the conflict with the female Magic Touch that did "Step into my world". The Magic Night 45 came out in '74, probably early '74
  21. represent
  22. I 100% agree, it could have been you is awesome, I don't even remember what the one in this thread sounds like and I've played it multiple times to remind myself. Why do people like it?
  23. TAC movement is a semi-known sweet soul record, I would say $150-$200 range.
  24. in my opinion the whispers is significantly better as it's a vocal harmony record. the bobby sheen also sounds more "pop" to me in general via the arrangement. i probably have a different perspective than northern collectors, bobby sheen might be significantly better as a northern record but I wouldn't know. I also think Walter Scott's lead on this is significantly better than Sheen's, even though I do really like "something new to do". The alternate version of Whispers Dr. Love that you heard was probably from their LP where this one engineer put horrible synth bass over the original track and messed with it in other ways. It wasn't a rerecording. It was later messed with more (I think) on a CD reissue.
  25. There have been some expensive reissues done by certain people in the UK. Ace/Kent also does reissues. I wouldn't call either of them "legalized boots". Either way, this has degenerated into splitting hairs, probably not worth discussing anymore. Nobody in the thread ever said it was an original 60s press. Thanks.
