  1. The Desires are from the west side of Chicago. They recorded on Moneytown, Blue Light (both George Redman labels), Tamboo, Starville, and their final record is the Dynamic Desires on Mel. Unfortunately I've heard that the lead singer Joe Faulkner is not in a state that an interview would be possible (and that was like 5 years ago). I also heard that their guitarist Charles Mays passed away. I do know that the Del-Tours are a totally different group, despite doing a slightly different version of the same song. I posted about the Po-So and Po-Jo here when Soul-Integrity asked before, I will search to try to find my post.
  2. it has nothing to do with copyright, it has to do with the culture of a specific segment of US collectors trying to outdo each other and prove that they own certain records by posting video of themselves actually playing the record.
  3. Registered post fees have not gone up much. Registration used to cost $11.50, today it costs $11.75. First class international has gone up by about a dollar. So a registered package should cost you about $1.25 more than before. If that seller actually shipped first class international registered it was only expensive because of the packaging being heavy.
  4. JUST TO CLEAR UP ANY CONFUSION "dukeofsoul" is the name of the youtube user / uploader. Do not listen for any part of the song "duke of earl" or whatever you may have been listening for. END OF ANNOUNCEMENT
  5. This record is terrible. The a-side is way worse and more bette midler-ish than the ruby winters. The b-side is a terrible 80s rock-ish cover of rescue me, reminds me of aretha franklin "freeway". p.s. not for sale
  6. The lineup was listed in the first edition of soul harmony singles, from like 1998. I posted a photo of the group here I think.
  7. you probably know this, but the limitations was a leased in production from philadelphia. I'd imagine that area got serviced? what are the vanity presses? There was one on ebay recently, it was the memphis nomads but it had something about being a charity thing on the label. I vaguely remember someone trying to sell an early volt on ebay a long time ago for $2500 with some story about it but don't remember what it was.
  8. also if you do talk to leroy barbour you should find out who he says stole "I ain't going nowhere" (also done by Jimmy Reed Jr in chicago) from whom.
  9. leroy should be easy to talk to, he had an expensive northern record and is still recording
  10. Also, who are Leroy Barbour and Eugene Todd?
  11. Did you find if Bobby Reed was his real name? Tony Talent is a known, different person, he was in the Coalitions.
  12. What were your strenuous efforts that you did to find him? Either way it would be very difficult because it is a very generic name with 100s of listings in Washington DC (assuming he didn't move). Are there any songs that he is credited as writer on or are they all written by Van McCoy?
  13. True, you do seem like a nice guy. I heard recently that this one long time Chicago collector (probably the person with the most complete collection of Chicago 50s records) has some agreement with the Smithsonian (main government-run museum in washington, DC) that they get his collection when he dies. I don't know if this is true but I heard he also gets to write off each record purchase as a tax deduction against the future gift somehow.
  14. I have seen doowop collectors die alone with their collection picked apart by vulture dealers for pretty much no money. Very sad. I'm sure it'll happen to me sooner or later...
  15. In general the company reissuing the record has to pay the owner of the publishing and the owner of the master, and it's those people's jobs to pay the songwriters and performers. For tiny artists / labels, the publisher and master owner are frequently out of contact with the people they are supposed to pay and they pocket the money. So it's possible that reissue company does what it's supposed to do but the people they pay don't pay the artists. For master payments, the producer will often say that they never recouped their advance so they won't pay the artist even if they are in contact. It's also possible that the reissue company just bootlegged it, I don't know the CD.
  16. I know someone who collects both records and stamps (literally)
  17. Isn't there even a picture of the Twans? What groups are you talking about? Also, Jeff Leimlich is the most knowledgeable person about that area
  18. that's part of what I was referring to re: "seller who didn't get what they wanted". I have seen sellers so stupid that they relist the record two days later. That is almost the only time I will leave a negative to anyone nowadays. A recent "I broke your record" seller was so stupid that they had 3 more copies of the same record in their store.
  19. I have never met any of them but the ultimations are definitely from Chicago. One of the Tra-mor label owners told me that he got into music via one of them. he didn't have any current contacts. I'm sure you're right and if they didn't record again at least one member must have been in another group.
  20. also wrote a lot of songs as ugene dozier
  21. that is imo one of the only honest actions you can take on a record that you crack before sending. I get so many lying sellers on ebay who didn't get what they wanted send me an "I broke the record" message. If you're not willing to send me the cracked record, at least send me a photo. I now always ask for a photo and never ever get one, I do get ridiculous excuses as to why they can't send me a photo though.
  22. true but that's a constant indemander and it didn't go for an insane amount.
  23. rounding to whole numbers, registered US-UK is the $7 for international first class (assuming standard packaging) + $12 (for registered), so $19. Just FYI. There are other services like priority international and express international that have different costs.
  24. my friend sold the jades on ebay and got over a grand, maybe even close to two (it's not in popsike for some reason). he dropped it while packing it and it cracked. He refunded the guy's money and sent him the cracked record.
