  1. my point was not that all threads were negative. it was that (pretty meaningless) threads like this always attract the jump on the bandwagon people who are looking for any excuse to bitch, they get the most participation. like garethx said, most of the records mentioned in this thread are good. worse threads are the one-sided descriptions of being wronged where everyone piles on saying the other party should be stabbed, etc. when the true story might be much different. I'm not telling anyone what they can post or not post or what threads can exist, I am saying that it just sounds like crusty people randomly bitching. On other message boards I'm the crusty negative person. Here it's the opposite which is amusing. This was the first time I've ever been told to leave a message board, which was pretty funny, especially since it was for supposedly telling people what they can or can't post. Even this thread could be more meaningful if people had a discussion about specific records and why they didn't like them or why they do like them, etc. It's just a "I hate this" thread where everyone can jump on and bitch.
  2. the tension related to the rock and roll hall of fame was that they didn't want the brooks bros inducted but they were. i assume that's what you were saying though (I wasn't sure if you were saying the tension was between sam and fred).
  3. i didn't mean to imply it had no value, just that it's not as in demand as when it was "discovered"

when i was in there he was bragging about pulling the manship guide on manship
  5. wikipedia shows me that it's their second "hit" single, it went to 44 on the US R&B charts. the essence version is actually really good if you can find audio of that too.
  6. also, in no way are you whinier than the old people in my grandparents' retirement home
  7. yes, that's exactly what I said. only say positive things ever. thanks for fully understanding my post where again i was saying that people can only say positive things. also thank you for the suggestion that I leave, that was very helpful. thank you.
  8. thanks, look forward to finding out the connection
  9. Hi Dave. I knew it was the thomas guys but are you sure it's the Tay group? The Tay record is detroit, has an H. Brooks writing credit (not richard or arthur), and doesn't appear to be connected to the other records except by name. You have been to cities in the US where the music came from way more than I have. Do you have some inside info indicating it is the Tay group? Who was H Brooks? Thanks.

there's also nothing really to find at river records. he has some stax / volt backstock but i couldn't even find weird undesirable titles that i was looking for.
  12. Any thread where people talk about what they hate or gang up on some person who may or may not have actually done something wrong gets the ultimate participation on this site. I'm a pretty negative person and it seems extreme to even me. Maybe it has something to do with age.
  13. This is not a "known copies" type of record and the buzz at the initial interest has pretty much worn off. It's still good, the demand (mainly from collectors who want whatever is hot at the moment) has worn off. Kris above was talking about her having another 45 on Lynn's and saying that is ultra-rare.
  14. also, there is a pharoahs 45 on capitol...
  15. The other day I was looking at the wikipedia page and it says it's just 3 members (one of which was their main male singer Wade Flemons). I always was told it was just the Pharoahs (who evolved into EWF). Also, there is more than one salty peppers 45, I would have to pull out the records to check, but there are two on capitol, one that first got released on the DC label TEC. If you look at the general crook 45s on capitol the same Pharoahs / Salty Peppers dudes played on it and probably sang backup. "You know what" is the good side imo.
  16. i was leaving my radio show today (which I ended up not doing because a mixup where someone else thought they were doing it and I let them do it...). I hung out for the whole thing though. As I was leaving and about to get into my car, this car pulls up with a guy driving and a woman in the car and asks where the radio station is. I told them that it was right there. They parked and came up to me, the guy was like "I'm homer talbert are you bob abrahamian?" and I told him that I didn't recognize him at all (he looked totally different) and he said he didn't recognize me at all either which was weird, we hung out a bunch of times (homer sang in some groups and was a songwriter, he wrote "ain't understanding mellow"). The woman turned out to be Sherry Scott, original lead singer of earth wind and fire and the singer on their first hit. She was coming up to the dance show to promote her new house record. I talked to her for a while, she was super nice, she said she would listen to my show next week and I told her I would play her record. So I just pulled up the record on youtube: and it's the same song I was recently selling by a female group called Essence. Except I didn't realize it was a cover. I hate when people don't know a song is a cover of a hit, I feel like an ass. Nobody emailed me letting me know though...
  17. Hi Naoya. Probably just a typo but the label is Vimla. The label owner doesn't have copies btw. The label Zelia (which had the group stage 3) is the same label.
  18. maybe i'm getting confused about the label and it was on leno or odex. sorry.
  19. I'm pretty sure I've heard the other one a while ago, it was in a local record store and I played it, it was just random deep soul so I passed.
  20. this is one of the records that people used to think was ultra-rare until ebay came along. bob miner still thinks it's really rare and deosn't believe how many copies i've seen for sale.

    Winnie

    it's a neighborhood in seattle
  22. also, both ebonic sound 45s were recorded live at Phil Cohran's Affro-Arts Theater
  23. p.s. not like the loser music teachers today, especially the ones near australia
  24. That was the Pharoahs' label not their label. The song is supposed to be the Grunchions song, it's mistitled on the 45 (it's Herb Kent speech, they explain what it means in the interview). They had two more records, they are exactly the same group as Teacher's Edition on Hi. It's one of the better interviews on my site, definitely worth listening to. They were all schoolteachers (mostly music teachers) btw.
  25. not doubting that it's "northern soul" but it's not soul. the band is even known as a white garage band amongst people into garage who compile facts about different local scenes.
