Over-/underpriced? Pages / Marshall, Donovan, Broomfield On Ebay
boba replied to Benji's topic in Look At Your Box
Plus I didn't even see those listings because he didn't put them in the R&B / Soul category, it was just soul, so my browsing didn't catch it. It's weird because another knowledgeable seller did the same thing. I guess it also shows that much of Sami's ebay sales come from repeat customers looking at his records rather than people just finding them. -
ok, through a series of phone calls starting with the one on that youtube page I talked to a group member and producer of their new material. I guess they have a released 7 track CD with the song on it, and are just finishing a 16 track CD (which I think includes the previous 7 but I'm not sure), but the new material is not pressed. I will keep everyone updated as to what the material sounds like. If people in the UK want to press vinyl or distribute the material (assuming the rest is also really good) PM me and I'll try to hook it up once I've heard the material. Thanks a lot.

That is next on the list, I just spent a ridiculous amount of time switching it to a 3rd party mailer (I can forward a very stupid tech support chat session where the guy was not helpful if you care).

Hi. Sorry for the long delay (due to some technical issues), but I now have two new music shows online, one from a few weeks ago and one from a couple days ago. They are both really good and worth checking out (in my opinion). You can listen to my 7/8/2012 show using this link: https://www.sittinginthepark.com/7-8-2012.mp3?'>https://www.sittinginthepark.com/7-8-2012.mp3? You can listen to my 7/29/2012 show using this link: https://www.sittinginthepark.com/7-29-2012.mp3?'>https://www.sittinginthepark.com/7-29-2012.mp3? The playlist for both shows is at the end of the email. You can listen to older shows or interviews with Chicago groups at my main page, https://www.sittinginthepark.com You may also notice the new format of my announcement emails. I have switched from sending out an email manually to using an email list manager / mailer. Among other things, this means that you can unsubscribe yourself from the list without interacting with me -- the unsubscribe or list management link should be at the bottom of the message. Other people can also subscribe themselves without having to have me manually add them to my list. The subscription form is located at the following URL: https://eepurl.com/n7Qr5 Here are the playlists: 7/8/2012 Pam Bowie - He's All I Need - Aquarius Devastations - What Makes Me Feel This Way - Gimp Imported Moods - I'm a Scorpio - Hi McArthur - It's So Real - Brown Dog Moses Dillard & the Tex Town Display - I Promise to Love You - Shout Festivals - So In Love - Gordy Love, Peace & Happiness Band - It's What's In Your Mind - L.P.H. Tainted Love Instrumental! Where Did This Come From?
boba replied to Pete S's topic in Look At Your Box
the avi 12" of tainted love (I'm talking about the vocal version) is the easiest way to get it in the US. I have never ever found a copy of it (and still don't own it). It is almost never on ebay or publicly for sale. Maybe it shows up in other cities. -

i checked, no dice -
I'm guessing that the target audience of a big box set like this isn't the northern soul crowd but soul music fans and collectors in general. At least with respect to that group of collectors, those aren't the highest profile acts on the label.

Thanks Steve. The title theme "theme from foxy brown" was released on 45 and promoed and even got some play. I would love to get this one on 45 if it exists. I don't think it does though. Maybe there is a foreign release, even that would be cool to get.
-
seeing a modern R&B or pop star isn't that comparable to seeing a nostalgia type of show. like if you went to see lady gaga or something it's definitely going to be more than $40.
-
"get ready..." is one of his best cuts. However, brother's gonna work it out is his #1 best cut. Everyone in Chicago knows that song and they don't play it on the radio. I love this one from the foxy brown soundtrack but it never got a 45 release: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eSP3_nKX6qg

every time i hear that zz and company song i think it's going to be this song (which is awesome) and am always disappointed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r5eSMDtDfCo

There are a lot of licensed in releases on the label. For example, that great expectations was a local LA release before phila of soul. I talked to the guy who produced the alfreda brockington and the benny sigler records, he owned the lash label in philly. I can ask him more about how his stuff got licensed in if you want. btw that red star label thing that the benny sigler is on is a bootleg, not a first label or anything like that (despite what some people have paid for it...). i think it's a jamaican boot.

you should probably ask jeff leimlich

Looking at both threads (underrated and overrated records) and looking at the people who like or hate certain records, I think part of the problem is that people are using two different criteria to judge the records. Obviously this is not an absolute split and the only criteria people are using, but I think some people are judging records as "northern soul" tracks and others are judging records as "soul" tracks. These are obviously two very different things.

lead singer is Billy Brown of the moments
-
haha, you might have read it when I posted. but i was wrong, the two 45s, despite being many years apart, and one on a nola label and one on a jersey label, are both the same texas group
-
I just listened to this like 5 times in a row. it's incredible.
-
I was searching for audio to one of their songs and found this live footage of them doing a NEW song that not only sounds better than their two 45s but they're doing it live, are incredible singers, and have incredible choreography

this is one of the first 45s I ever bought, it has sentimental value to me as well as being a good 45

the jaggerz were from western PA, along with groups like the Bell Boys (the group on the ohio jamar label), El Pooks, etc.

That is very weird that they gave him money to start an independent detroit label that wasn't even distributed by chess, I never heard of that. Lots of times people started sublabels of a parent label though. not saying it isn't true, just commenting that it is weird.

i don't see it anymore because there aren't many to be found anymore (and there are like no more record stores) but it was interesting when huge record collections got dumped and distributed across record stores in the city, with the same name written on all the records or other common features. Like there was one big collection that had braille stickers on each label (obviously a blind person's collection). I thought that was kind of cool. I also like how it sort of invokes a time when certain people bought tons of records because they were real music lovers and personalizing the records added to their personal connection to the music somehow ... instead of the medium being a fetishized object that had to be kept pristine, in order, etc.
