  1. I never heard about this before, was googling him to try to get some info: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jimmy_Gresham even if he was trafficking coke, that is messed up (and a product of messed up US drug laws).
  2. yeah, a version of the Lafeyette Afro Rock band. Pierre Jaubert's name is on the hard times 45.
  3. one thing that is sort of meaningful though is that if kenny really did write it for RCA himself and publish it under the other publisher there would have been a separate copyright entry for sure. the one i posted was the only one i found in the books.
  4. fine, it just doesn't credit both writers
  5. that makes more sense, i misunderstood the "state" part, sorry
  6. this makes it sound like you're saying the crack makes it more valuable because it's rarer cracked
  7. people have been doing this for decades. it's for obsessive collectors who want to match up sleeves to their collection. nobody is gonna pay more than a few cents for a common sleeve like spring. also the obsessive collector thing is sort of silly (I still would understand doing it knowing this) because when the records were released a lot of the records were put in whatever sleeve was available at the time, e.g. could have been a plain sleeve, could have been one from a different era, etc.
  8. Here is the copyright entry: I'VE GOT TO GET MYSELF TOGETHER; w Kenny Carter, m Nate Edmonds (Nathaniel Edmonds) © Dixon & Stokes Music Co.; 29Nov65; EU913985. the publishing matches neither record but another copyright for the RCA title doesn't show up. RCA messed up the credits. I don't know the story as to why.
  9. velvet hammer has been going up, has gone over $200 a few times on ebay recently. 300 pounds is pretty high though.
  10. who cares about some incorrect information or over the top item descriptions? tim has errors in his descriptions too. neither is actively lying or misrepresenting items. And the over the top responses to the post are ridiculous, saying someone should be moderated for questioning what side Manship says is the good side? Or implying that someone with 5000 posts is a shill for Tim or came on here to slander Manship? The initial criticism is a silly one and the responses to it are even more over the top.
  11. This is done by Collectables, who specialized in reissuing US 45s for the US market (jukeboxes or just people who wanted the record to play). Collectables did not exist until 1980: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Collectables_Records
  12. Andy, I think you have this confused. Charles Diamond = Charles Penniwell = Charles Pennywell who was in the doowop group the Fairlaines. Charles Perry is a different person. Here are Sir Shambling's pages on both: https://www.sirshambling.com/artists_2012/P/charles_pennywell/index.php https://www.sirshambling.com/artists_2012/P/charles_perry/index.php Here is Charles Diamond / Pennywell's own website: https://www.charlesdiamond.indiegroup.com/ Nowhere on his site does he mention recording under the name "Perry". Shambling's Perry listing does have a Mutt and Jeff recording which is a label association but it's still not enough evidence to link the two people named "Charles". Do you have more evidence that Perry = Pennywell?
  13. maybe they used the gold label for US-targeted reissues too, but did you see herb johnson and the cooperettes and billy butler? they didn't sell the first time around before they were reissued.
  14. Tom Moulton is a really nice guy and would probably talk to you directly at length if you wanted.
  15. I'm pretty sure they're legit but no way were most of them done for the US market. Herb Johnson and Cooperettes? Someone on here like Neil Rushton must have a story about commissioning the reissues.
  16. I got the fabulous playmates from Barry Wickham which probably did not filter through anderson. I got another copy from some other source i can't remember...
  17. if the pink record is a rerecording it's not really a reissue, it's the first time the material has been issued
  18. ugh, I'm not a big fan of his jazz (bougie nina simone type moves imo) but that is straight up bad.
  19. mcdaniels wrote "compared to what" but mcann/harris had a hit with the song as vietnam protest song. roberta flack had some play off of it too and it's since evolved into a lame vocal jazz standard. i'm not sure what the northern soul reference point is for mcdaniels but he's known amongst soul/funk LP collectors for his spiritual / political LP "headless heroes of the apocalypse".
  20. what do you think it is?
  21. it's a cover of the o'jays, which is actually a cover of the implements on phillips (most people don't know the implements version is first).
  22. i'm always leaving my 5-figure records strewn out against each other sleeveless like that too
  23. jackie brenston rocket 88 silver top for one
  24. someone handed me this record once and told me to buy it (it was $3) and I passed at the time because it was a gospel group
