  1. It's Tee Fletcher "Happy loving you" on Shurfine records https://youtu.be/2rG5rcN3-eE
  2. Isn't that what I said? The one credited to Willie Tee is exactly the same recording as the one credited to Willie Harper (to my ears anyway) The third one I posted is the one by Lee Dorsey, which was just to be able to compare the three all in one place - typo indeed sounds about right to me. But as I said, the first two (Willie 'Tee' & Willie Harper) were posted on YouTube by the same person, which makes it strange why he / she would make such a 'mistake'.
  3. The 'Willie Tee' take was posted almost a year later than the Willie Harper posting - very odd but it still sounds the same recording to my ears. Try playing both at the same time to compare them and see what you think:
  4. Sorry Kev, I kinda thought you'd know that one, but thought I'd best confirm it Isn't it Willie Harper on Sansu? In fact the same person has put the same track up, but this time credited to Willie Harper. I've played them both at the same time and they both sound the same to me.
  5. I've got both of them Derek, of course Willie Hutch did it first. But I do think Charles Drain does it better than Willie - others may not agree! Nice bit of marketing BTW
  6. You don't mean "First taste of hurt" do you? Can't say as I recall that title by him...
  7. The James Carr song was written by Tommy Tate & Carson Whitsett. Yes, I only mentioned the one by Marvin Smith, which was written by Van McCoy, as was Tommy Hunt's version - maybe I ought to have used Tommy Hunt as an example as it did actually come out before Marvin Smith's. But as it was only an example of different songs with the same name rather than the first ones to come out, I wasn't really taking that much notice!
  8. Here's five more: "Hold on" - Judy Freeman & Blackrock on RCA "Hold on" - O'Jays on Minit "Hold on" - Fascinations on Mayfield "Hold on" - Marvin Smith on Brunswick "Hold on" - James Carr on Atlantic There's lots more with the words "Hold on" as part of the title but these were just a few more well known titles I could think of.
  9. Plus Thelma Houston did it on Tamla... but maybe this doesn't count as I think it might be the same song? I'll have to check...
  10. From an LP 'Chequered' - according to comments on 45Cat: https://www.45cat.com/record/hl10331
  11. I always wondered about the 'boot' - maybe it was just repressed by the label? There's a lot of colours gone into it, as a rule they didn't use all that many in those days, to keep costs down. Does anyone know the story as to who was behind this 45 getting pressed up? It wasn't getting played for all that long before they all turned up. Just curious....
  12. Definitely got plays at Clifton Hall as a new release - copies were changing hands for about two quid at the time!
  13. Here's a scan of a demo I'd already got on the PC, mine's an issue copy, but this will do for those who haven't seen it. I would imagine Mal will do a better one for Ady.
  14. First time I heard it would have been at The Ebor Suite in York - so most likely played by Alan Rhodes. But agreed, it was played all over Yorkshire (at least) to my knowledge - maybe not for a long time though. I'd say it got dropped as soon as the Contempo release came out, which was when I bought my copy. The US Contempo / Scepter 45 must have come out a short while after that but it was many years later before I came across a copy.
  15. Sold my copy of the LP in the early 90's for about £75 - I'd already got the 45 from it, which was the best track on it for me at the time. It only cost about a pound about ten years previous, so I was happy. But at these days prices - I don't really know what's going on!
  16. Here's the scan - it was posted in the not released in the US or UK thread (I forget the correct title) but there's lots of pages to go through. I'd have to go through it again to find out who posted it, but I don't think there's any other info about it. But it's not a 78, so really shouldn't be on here - sorry Derek...
  17. Thanks guys! I downloaded all the latest issues along with the two corrected issues (24 & 28) In fact I did the latter ones shortly after Bob messaged me, but I couldn't seem to get a reply message working at the time - maybe due to the site problems? But all seems to be OK tonight. I spent that long going through 24 & 28 that I lost track of the time! I'd forgotten about all the comments I'd made in some of those issues - in fact I've forgotten that I even knew some of the stuff in the first place!

  19. Yes, I read Mike's latest news shortly after posting the above. It's probably best to let him have time to get it sorted before trying any more uploads. I hope all goes well Mike!
  20. Soul Solution Sampler, Volume 3 Completing the Soul Solution series, here is the third and final 'sampler tape' - in digital format, that was given away in December 1996. As with the others, this isn't just a copy from the cassette tape, but a recording of all the tracks direct from their original format & 'lovingly remastered' !!! The tracks chosen between the four of us, Sean Hampsey, Kev Briscoe, Andy Tats Taylor and myself. I hope you'll enjoy it: https://www.mixcloud.com/JohnBenson/soul-solution-pitches-tape-3/
  21. Hi Bob I can't even find the download link for Issue 24 anymore - that post seems to have vanished! Or is that what you meant with it didn't upload proper? I have checked the one you previously put up and can confirm it's got a total of 82 (PDF) pages. It starts off with pages 1 & 2 of Issue 24, then starts off again with page 1 (on PDF page 3) then goes through all pages to page 19 (PDF page 21) then jumps to page 30. PDF page 23 then starts with issue 27 and continues with all 60 pages of that Issue... Technology - isn't it great.... sometimes!
  22. I noticed that the subs were due in issue 27 - maybe that's why issue 28 fails to open? Seriously, it's great to see all the issues of the mag again in a handy format to take away on holiday with you - that's my summer holiday reading sorted! By the way, I noticed issue 21 has got a year of 2001 instead of 1991 - a glimpse into the future perhaps?
  23. Good luck with your quest Dave, Carl Hall has done some great recordings and to find out any more info about him would be great! I always assumed C. Henry Hall on Mercury was him, so as Robb mentioned - it's odd it got missed.
  24. I think the exercise was purely to establish if you could tell by just looking at the A side - as in a photo / scan where you didn't have the record physically to have a listen to it. (Because Sheffsoul asked) So to sum up, it looks like you can't tell just from one label, other than if it's a 'push out' middle - if it is then don't look any further as it's not going to be the instrumental anyway. A. You need to see both labels just to see if it's Cyril Shane music on both sides... if it is and has a large middle, then it's a case of listening to it (If possible), looking at the grooves on the off chance you can tell if they are a lot wider spaced apart than a 3 minute plus record would be. B. If you're just going by label scans of both sides (without having hold of the record) and they are of a large middle record with Cyril Shane Music on both sides - that's as far as you can go other than asking the seller to play it and tell you (which you probably wouldn't want to do) - or just buy it and hope like hell !!! But be prepared for the worst!
