Speaking of the old Windmill - I went there the other week for someone's 50th - first time in over 25 years, the last time was for a regular 'Saturday night, booze up! It felt really weird, yet the stage area hasn't altered a deal, all black and dreary. The bar is on the wall near the staircase and they have really posh looking tables and chairs. If I get chance I'll see if I can dig out some old pics of the place from the early 80's period - I've got some somewhere worth posting. (Got to go now, off to work in a minute!)

I think you mean the Assembly Rooms? He ran it with Steve Croft as I recall, it was with the intension of getting the younger school aged kids into the scene - I popped in once (after being invited) for a looksee and it was packed with kids all dancing away to the regular soul tunes of the day (around 1977 / 78 ish) Of course that place has ben rebuilt as part of the Old Town Hall building so the hall no longer exists!

Out of curiosity... Just how can you tell the re-issue copies from the original releases? Are they a different number or cover or something obvious? I only know that the white demos for certain are first issues, but don't really have a clue on the issue copies

Glad you like it - Actually it's an old Soul Essence spin of Mike Charlton, it took me ages to pick up an issue, you usually find mono/stereo demos of the A side. I'll have a look around and see If I can come up with anything else like this...

Awesome clip! - Funnily enough I was only recently listening to the interview with Keith Stewart of the group, on Boba's "sitting in the park" show - after I'd had a 'session' playing some of their tunes, from the first release "Promises" on GEC records to the Mercury LP "Fantasy". Then around the end of the interview he mentioned his (then) recent CD on Da Man records "The longshot sessions" - this has a few tracks credited to Heaven & Earth, which at the time I never connected with the group So I had to dig that out and play it again also! Coincidence or what!

I've got this on a UK Pye International four track EP with a picture cover - can't think of the title off hand though Nice ZA 45 Tone! - What's on the other side and was it also released in the States?

Well, seeing as you're talking about me (again) I thought I'd just add my bit. Yes, I have the Eddie Owen 12" - bought from London's Bluebird records during the early 80's. Actually it's on Solid Gold, not Sound of Gold: I don't know for certain if it's exactly the same as the Garpax recording as I've never compared them, but the 12" certainly seems to 'go on' for quite some time (I'll have to time it sometime as there's no timing details on the record) It seems like only yesterday when a group of us were sat discussing this and the numerous other issues of the song / artist variations - Clifton Hall in Rotherham, I have often wondered who the people were, maybe some of you reading this? I never did get any of the other issues of this song though! Here's the Helpp scan btw:

Right, here it is - Linda Lewis "Why can't I be the other woman" / "Come on back" on UK Kaleidoscope records - KRL A 2860 (1982) Both sides are produced by Bert Decoteaux, the A side was written by Linda Lewis & T Attel while Linda wrote the flip side on her own. The 45 doesn't appear to have been released in the states either (as far as I can tell) It comes in a rather naff picture cover of Linda in one of those white frilly 'School marm' blouses and a black bow tie - very off putting really If it wasn't for Bert's name in the credits I wouldn't have bothered picking it up in the first place Anyway, if anyone wants to have a listen - here it is: Come_on_back___Linda_Lewis.mp3 It might not be to everyone's taste, but it tends to grow on you after a while

Hi Mel, Do you have one by Linda Lewis from the 80's? (title escapes me right now) - it's on some UK label like KRL or similar (Kalaidoscope Records Ltd?) It's got Bert's name on it - which is why I picked it up at the time. It might be called "Come on back" - nice mid tempo thing, I'll have to dig it out again

No - you're quite right on this occasion It was later released on UK Ten records # 110 - around 1985 ish (?) US copy was on Motown 1438 BTW But I ain't got either of those, just the Green un!

Another track from the LP which I always rated - "How could it be" Released on a 45 on Bunky 7756 - another great cheapie from them Must get a copy of the LP sometime - I always though all the good tracks were on 45s - obviously I was wrong on that also What's "When I'm ready" like then?...

Hi Dave, I've got a few by Dee Dee Wilde on 4th & Broadway, but can't say as I recall "Certain kind of weather" though. Of course Dee Dee was Eugene's sister if I remember correctly, Simplicious - "Let her feel it" - nice tune I seem to think I've got an old B&S with an article on the Broomfield family which mentions the various groups etc connected with them. Can't recall the group Life though - not the Reprise group from the 70's I assume?

Sean, I've had a look and it seems that it's the same as you said - a Green Demo, not a blue issue But I did come across 2 copies of 21st Creation "Tailgate" UK demos - one Green and one Blue, maybe that's what I was thinking of? So the question still stands - did the Carl Bean UK Motown 45 ever get issued?

The Midwest Franchise song isn't the same one Mark, just the same title I'm afraid
