  1. You haven't seen nothing yet - will hatcher - wheelsville

    12013 refosoul

I think this is the blue label version - without piano intro?

I found it on a CD I'd got - still not come across my green copy yet though!

  2. Is that right Dave?

The Green one is also a nice midtempo dancer... in my book.

I, genuinely, always thought that the only difference was the tinkly piano intro... from memory.

Tim Brown originally found this (the light blue copy) and used to play it at Thorne. When the Green ones came through I thought that, other than the intro, they were exactly the same.

Must give them both another listen.

    :shhh:

    Sean

I'm glad you said that Sean - That's just what I thought

It'll save me hunting my green un out

  3. Not heard the Tymes version. Stick it up here when you get a mo (save you doing me a CD  ).

    Sean

Actually I haven't CD'd it yet - one of the many, but it's not a bad version.

I've had it since the early 80's, but coincidently Steve G reviewed it not all that long ago for In The Basement if I recall correctly :D

I'll try and make it a date for Spondon - sounds like my kinda 'do' :shades:

PS - 'The Way Of The Crowd' is on their "People" LP also on Columbia / UK Direction

  4. The 3 Degrees version was actually out several years before the Players version on Chocolate City.

    I

And of course before that release it was done by The Tymes in 1969 on Columbia - (Mines on UK Direction)

Yes Sean - we must catch up... it's been a while now :shades:

  5. Yes, there were Blue ones and later Green label copies. Not a lot of difference in the recordings apart from the intro as I recall :shades:

I don't know off hand if the release numbers were different though?....

  6. I read somewhere that Cameo originally recorded 'Find My Way' as the New York City Players, did it ever get a release as them ? anyone ?

I seem to recall when the record first got spins it was as by the Players on Chocolate City records. Then shortly afterwards copies appeared as by Cameo.

But I just found this piece of 'info' :shades: :

Formed in 1974, Cameo started out as a 13-member group created by former Juilliard student and New York-area clubgoer Larry Blackmon, called the New York City Players. Signed by Casablanca Records to their Chocolate City imprint in 1976, the group soon changed its name to Cameo. Cameo started with a deep, funky sound, but it was obvious from the start that their sights were set on the dance floors. Their first albums Cardiac Arrest, Ugly Ego, We All Know Who We Are and Secret Omen contained dance floor songs such as "I Just Want To Be" and "Find My Way," the latter which was a major disco smash and was included on the soundtrack to Thank God It's Friday.

Not having got a copy by the 'Players' I can't confirm the actual name on the record as to having the 'New York' as part of their name :D

So we still need some confirmation on this one

Anyone got a scan of the first 45 - were they promos only?

  7. Wasn't the Donnie Elbert 45 also on UK RCA?

I feel sure I have a copy of it somewhere but don't know where it fits in release wise with the other two

Top fives, tens or anything else are very hard to come up with, always changing - but here's a few that's getting repeat plays for me at the moment:

General Crook - Thanks but no thanks - Wand

Main Ingredient - Brotherly love - RCA

    Roscoe Robinson - Don't pretend - Fame

Bettye Swann - You gave me love - Money

    Heaven & Earth - Promises - GEC

  8. "If it wasn't for the children" is an awesome deepie

I've had this for the best part of 10 years now, but I can't say as I've played the other side much :P

I must dig it out and give it another spin sometime :D

Actually I don't recall why I bought it in the first place, I must have read of it somewhere, but it was the 'Children' side I got it for, thinking about it, it could have been in 'Voices From the Shadows' - I think there was a feature on Neal Kimble in there

I hadn't noticed the recent popularity of it either (Sorry Chalky) - must get out more eh!

    (Mine's an issue too BTW)

No mp3 of either, but can do them if required - just let me know :P

  9. im rather partial to TAKE ME WHERE YOU GO--unreleased me thnks--------jo

Not quite true - it was released on the "From the vaults" LP in 1979 - which contains the Spinners goodie "What more could a boy ask for", but later sneaked out on a UK 45 as the flip side to "The composer" on TMG 999 in 1985 thumbsup.gif

But I understand there was another mix of the song on that CD Box set from 2000 along with another mix of "Stormy" - not having heard these versions I can't compare them

  10. rob smith used to spin this some time ago, not sure of the label or correct name spelling?

any one got a copy to sell or can tell me anymore about this 45 ?

I used to have this 45 back in the mid 70's - The correct spelling is:

April Silva - The other side is called "In cold blood" and it's on Blue Dolphin records.

I seem to think it was a dark label, maybe black with dark print making the whole thing look very difficult to see (But there again I may be wrong!)

I don't have a clue on a current price or availability but would guess at todays prices you're looking at between £80 and £100 :)
