  1. If I remember right, "You gotta be a lady" is Len Barry related in some way? Wasn't he one of the writers or something? I'm almost certain I have this on a UK Vanguard 45 (same as Val said)
  2. But in my defence (your honour)... I had seen it mentioned on the odd playlists prior to then and did have the LP - just hadn't gotten around to having a listen to it! No smart comments about having too many records etc. either!
  3. Yes they were sold that way, like a lot of Polydor and related labels like Atlantic & Mojo. Don't know the reason behind it though, unless it was to make them more 'juke box friendly'?
  4. Yep: https://www.vh1.com/channels/vh1_soul/channel.jhtml
  5. It looks (to me) as though there's a Soul Channel on VH1? That's what I should have said... Hope I'm wrong though!
  6. For anyone interested, here's the UK 45:
  7. I hope this is the right place for this, but no doubt the mods will move it if it's not: VH1 Soul Presents: Soul Cities (Chicago) Soul Cities: Chicago The next stop is Chi-town. Writer Nelson George roams through six of a the hippest towns in the U.S., interviewing muscians and checking out the coolest spots. Tune-in Tuesdays at 8pm Central. View VH1 Soul Trailer Here: ">
  8. Just what is a cheap copy of this lately? I've seen it from under a tenner to over 75 quid
  9. My copy is on Itzy, so off hand I don't know which one it'll be? Personally though, I always preferred "Your (my) Everything" as well
  10. Aren't yellow ones demos? Green being stock copies?
  11. Deffo not Tommy Hunt, but I've no idea who it might be either... Sorry!
  12. Just curious about this one: I've got a white promo of this, but the title on it isn't the same as yours: "Find yourself another man" - same writer/ producer credits, and in Manships book it's the same as mine on both sides, the other side being "Hold on" I've not had a listen to my copy to compare them but assume they are the same song, although listening to your sound bite, she never actually sings "Find yourself..." Hmmm....
  13. Also the title track to his LP which also contains "Per-So-Nally" Not played it in years, so I don't have a clue what it's like anymore
  14. But all kidding aside, if you didn't know the track "Gotta lot of love..." You won't even look twice at the LP when you see the cover with the 'good ole boys' on it! It looks more like a C&W LP than anything else, it's only when you see the credits that you realise there's more to it than meets the eye.
  15. Hi Sean, yes I noticed the mistake also. But am I imagining it or isn't the version of "Smoke stream" by Bits and Pieces different from the one as by Brothers Sisters & Cousins? I only have the one by Bits & Pieces, but I'm almost sure that when the BS&C 45 was getting plays, I was told (Or maybe heard it?) that the other version was slower or something? Anyone got both versions to confirm this?
  16. No idea about an LP - but just to clear things up a bit, my 'DJ copy' of "Keep on running away" is just like the one pictured above (multi coloured), which has also got the flip side "Sinner have you been there" - didn't you say that your copy of "Did I scare you" was same both sides? That makes them the same - only different doesn't it? Agreed, it certainly gets very confusing doesn't it? BTW - there's a Nasco singles discography here:https://www.globaldogproductions.info/n/nasco.html No mention of LPs though as far as I can tell...
  17. Well, I'm not all too sure after having another look at it - is it a demo or what? See what you think: As you can see, it's like the first coloured DJ copy as pictured earlier, but its got "Promo Pop / R&B" on both sides! If you can see in the scan, the A side (031-A) is "Did I scare you" But as far as is it the plug side?... you tell me!
  18. Just dug my copy out for a spin. (Multi coloured) I wasn't aware of the yellow copies either until reading this thread, but 'Mr Man' shows it in his guide, so I guess they must be around. By the way, on playing it, I still have a preference for the other side "Come back home" - not a dancer but a lovely down tempo (but not really deep) tune. All in all thought, it's a good double sider
  19. Speaking of UK London, That reminds me the title track came out on a London 45 b/w "Push a little bit harder" I've got an orange demo of this! But also I have to agree the album is not bad, I always quite liked "Don't go" Never had a cover for my copy - a 50p special from Robinsons records in Manchester - late 70's / early 80's ish
  20. Also released in Brazil... on a 4 track EP... Complete with a neat picture cover All four of his releases are on it by the way! PS - I must also be one of those minorities eh!!
  21. Speaking of Polydor, I wonder what the unissued 45 on that label is like? "Superstar" / "A Good Woman Don't Grow On Trees" Polydor 14252 Anyone ever get to hear this?
  22. T'other side of this isn't too bad either Sean "Cheaper in the long run" There's a feature, some sound clips & discog on Debbie here:https://www.sirshambling.com/artists/D/debbie_taylor.html
  23. Clarence Carter can do no wrong for some folk eh? Agreed though, it's a lovely tune and as Dave says every home should have one & if not why not? But this version isn't too bad either, in a Sam & Dave kind of way...
  24. Bit of a dilemma this one... The UK Phillips release has "When you are who you are" on the flip side. Philips 6073 705 (1972) The US Flying Dutchman copy has "Save the children" on the flip. I like them both, so sorry - no spares Ever feel kinda of down and out and don't know just what to do? Livin' all of days in darkness, let the sun shine through Ever fell that somehow, somewhere you lost your way? And if you don't get help you won't make it through the day You could call on Lady Day! You could call on John Coltrane! They'll wash your troubles, your troubles away Plastic people with plastic minds on their way to plastic homes There's no beginning, there ain't no ending just on and on and on and on and... It's all because we're so afraid to say that we're alone until our hero rides in, rides in on his saxophone You could call on Lady Day! You could call on John Coltrane! They'll wash your troubles, your troubles away https://www.gilscottheron.com/lylady.html
  25. Sorry Bri!... Can't say as it means anything to me either Plus, I have the Anacostia LP which makes it worse! Must listen to my records a bit more eh
