  1. Alan,

I'm not aware of it being on a 45 and according to someone who posted this on YouTube:

This was suppose to be a single, thats why they are doing it on "Hullabaloo".It was NEVER released as a single, just an LP cut on "The Fabulous Ronettes".

Maybe it didn't get a release as a single then? :elvis:

  2. Always loved Frame Of Mind off the same LP

Most likely the reason most of us bought this LP isn't it Gary?

Other faves from this LP have to be "Loving you gets better with time" (Also the flip side to the 45 of "Frame of mind"), "Changes" & "Give love a try"

  3. Kev, I was replying to Joe, the Hesitations - push a little bit harder. you can't know them all, they are load's of tunes on Frence/German etc Ep's that did'nt come out on British/American 45's.

    Willie

To make it even more confusing - "The Hesitations - push a little bit harder" Did come out on a 45!

UK London - it was the flip side to "Born Free" which was also the title track to the LP it featured on.

This was mentioned in a recent thread about the LP and other good tracks on it.

Now back to discussing album tracks eh?

  4. Ian - do you mean something like that 2 Volume CD release which went under the title of "Lonesome Train, The best of Oscar Perry"?

Which came out over here in 1999 on Edsel and contained some of his unissued & released things from the Crazy Cajun era

I guess you really mean his Peri Tone releases etc....

Sounds good though doesn't it :D

  5. Hi Bob,

I don't recognise it either but it's certainly got a Curtis Mayfield / Impressions influence.

It sounds quite early 60's to me, which could have some bearing on the 'Batman' title.

There's also a touch of Major Lance's "Monkey Time" & The Impressions "Woman's got soul" in there.

Not a bad tune really I suppose...

    I wonder who's actually singing?

  6. He did them originally with Artist, title and "JEV" on them, then turned to just the artist in bold blue letters at the top. Very neat tidy and cool as you say.. I did try to copy them in black, but they never quite looked the same

    Heyup Steve,

I'm sure I've at least one of his with the artist and title etc. written in that 'long letters' style which looks correct when you read it at an angle - such as from the top view of a record box.

But looks kind of long and thin when seen face on - if you get my drift.

I'll have a look out and see if I can find one to add to the 'collection' rolleyes.gif

  7. didnt Cliff steel get a handful from Black Grape for £8 each?

I'm not sure if it was Cliff himself, but for sure I remember it was someone from the Northampton crowd.

I can't remember the price either, but it was most likely somewhere in that region.

  8. This is indeed one awesome album!

Yes Joe & Jim - It was most certainly released!

I have the UK Motown copy.

No doubt Mr Hampsey will say his piece on this topic, as it was he who made me aware of it, not all that long after it's release.

    Tell me a lie Mot 6000 (1982)

    Right in the middle,

    Either way we lose,

    Suspicions,

You seen one you seen 'em all,

I heard it through the grapevine,

Tell me a lie, I like it I like that,

Before I even know your name,

    I can't stop,

    If I were your woman

Fave tracks for me include the title track, "Right in the middle" & "I can't stop"

Isn't it funny how these types of recordings never really got the acclaim they deserved when first released?

  9. Think I had the LP too John, at the same time, but like you hadn't played (or properly listened to) that track.

    I was right though wasn't I!

I well remember the 3 of us looking blank at each other when Rod first played it there.

Am still waiting to hear my JW tip from yesteryear - "What A Lovely Way" - played out!

Might even give it a run out on Friday. Mmmmmmmm

So are you going? Might even get the other boys out to play with it being a fairly local gig!

    Sean

Oh... and you DO have far to many records and can't possibly know em all.:(

The other side's not too shabby either!

"You Left The Fire Burning" - Another quality double sider from the Man himself yes.gif

Yep, I might just be there on Saturday, so you better behave yourself!

  10. I'm full of surprises Dave  . What you might find even more shocking is I was with Kev Briscoe & John Benson at the time Rod Dearlove played it at Thorne and they didn't know it either! :g: That must have been around 1989(?)...!

Just goes to show, none of us know it all.

    Sean

But in my defence (your honour)... I had seen it mentioned on the odd playlists prior to then and did have the LP - just hadn't gotten around to having a listen to it!

No smart comments about having too many records etc. either!

  11. mine's a UK one like that, were they pressed "pre-dinked" because like mine, it looks like a very clean dink (if you know what I mean)

Yes they were sold that way, like a lot of Polydor and related labels like Atlantic & Mojo.

Don't know the reason behind it though, unless it was to make them more 'juke box friendly'?

  12. I hope this is the right place for this, but no doubt the mods will move it if it's not:
