This was a funny one, because there was no US release or indication of the source for either side, as I recall.
Yet, as Mark said, the McClure track shares the backing track to "I Can't Stop Loving You" by Love affair on UA.
Would love to know how the McClure side came about.
Sean
I suppose everyone knows this bit, but just to remind some of you, if you check out the discog on Bobby in Voices From The Shadows - issue 10 (page 34)
I seem to think it mentions Bobby was asked about the song and didn't know much about it either(?)
-
I haven't a clue
But it does kinda remind me of something they'd play on "Come dancing"
-
And the good news is that *Steve Plumb* will be back as part of a NW "Sunday Soul Selection" special, to be presented by Sean O'Connor.
Steve will be layin' down one of his famous Soul Essence LP only tracks sets, especially for the radio show. These sets are always extremely well received at Essence!
Can't wait to hear Steve's set
(Steve knows why!)
-
Yes another great show, not a bad track played
By the way... tell Neil that the Freddie Hughes track he played, isn't only on issues
I have it on a white promo & I'm sure there's others around!
Great record though nonetheless
-
I've got this on French Atco also - I'm pretty sure it's got a picture sleeve as well?
The A side is "Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!"
Agreed, it's a nice version but not quite up there with James Barnett
-
It's a good bet they're 'repros' Pete
I couldn't tell you the differences in them, but I do know there were a lot of albums done like this back in the 90's (?)
I know these two were amongst them and being still sealed certainly sounds more likely they are not first issues.

Thanks guys very much appreciated
Andy
My copy of the Visitors 45 is the red & black one, do I take it the orange one was an earlier release - or just from a different pressing plant?
Just curious...
-
isnt the flip of the us issue ok as well.came out in the uk in 1987 coz it got plays in the rare groove clubs
or at least thats where i first heard it
dave
Dave,
Are you thinking of the UK Arista release of this which was a double sider of 2 different US 45s?
"Work it out" / "Say you love me girl"
I forget which was the 'official' A side without checking my copy, but I'm almost certain it was released due to the 'Rare groove' demand at the time.
Both sides are very good
-
I guess John means 'confirmed that I didn't play it' back then Steve, i.e. not that it wasn't played at all.
If you recall, we were inseperable at that time.
John even used to sit on the stage with me while I Deejayed... to stop me feeling lonely during the quiet moments .
I had Jay-Bee!
And you had Gary Wade,
Sean
You got it in one Sean!
That's exactly what I meant - I didn't recall you playing it.
I did also say that I didn't remember hearing it anywhere at that time and that someone may have given it a spin. (Which Steve has confirmed)
We don't know everything y'know
Anyway... I didn't realise I was a Hampsey 'Groupie'

We´re on air now!!!
https://www.rhythmandsoulradio.com/
Hope some of you can join us.
(Believe the show will also be podcasted later on Mike Ashley´s Podomatic page)
Cheers,
Melismo
Listening in loud and clear!

Bump, anyone.
I suppose you already know it's the other side to "Come on back to me lover"
Maybe you ought to mention it in case someone else isn't aware and has one for that side?
Mind you, it's an issue only you need - not a mono stereo demo of the A side
-
Not guilty, your honour!
I did a lotta that shit, back then, as you know, but I never even had the Alma Faye (12" or 7") that I can remember.
Darren possibly?
Sean
I'm glad you confirmed this, I didn't remember hearing it anywhere back then!
But I suppose it's possible someone gave it a spin at that time?
I have had the 45 of it since around the mid to late 80's but never gave it more than a quick play then 'filed' it away along with the other records on the label.
I don't think I thought any more about it until Gouch (I think) mentioned it in a mag, maybe Soul Renaissance?
This would have been sometime around 5 years back. I have to agree it does have a similarity with "Too much lovemaking"... but it's not really in the same league is it?
-
heres the Warner Bros 45..
And of course... on the same label as this "putting it down" was also done by Eugene Record
Yep, I reckon the Ken Gold connection sounds about right between the Realistics & Delegation
-
I have yet another version of this song, On a bell demo, can' think who the hell it's by at the Mo...brain drain!! .
Anybody remind me?....If not i'll dig it out.
Would it be Gordon Waller?
Never heard it though!
Didn't John Rowles also do it?
-
Cheers Tony - that's the one!
What's it like BTW? - don't think I've heard it by Billy
-
In the days before typewriters John?
I knew you were very, very, old, but that must make you around 150!
Sean
Funeee...!
That meant before I owned one... but I guess you knew that's what I meant
-
On the subject of this song - Didn't someone else do it as well?
I seem to think I've heard it mentioned at sometime, maybe from Dave himself?
-
john do u remember DETROIT SOUNDS as well....was saving all my paper round money for it..
poke played it...probably the most under rated DJ ever..
also sold purple mundi about the same time for 20p..mind u had a lot of copies
Detroit Sounds of Friction - "I'm leaving you" on Heavy Sounds or summat wasn't it?
Yes Poke had it covered up as "Get yourself together" I seem to think.
A very under rated DJ I agree
-
"Oh I miss you" - Beres Hammond
After this one Martin?
Actually a decent copy of this is quite hard to come by - so I'm told.
Brotherhood Music Incorporated Limited 001 (1981)
The song is also on a few 45s, but they are different recordings of it - not bad, but not quite the same as this one.
Sorry, no spare copy either!
-
Incidentally, are we really sure Ms Barnes provided lead vocals on this,
Any Hard evidence to support 'The Rumour'
M.
Never seen any concrete evidence on this but it certainly does sound like her
Although it's reputed to be Gloria Barnes, who 'could' be the same person?
By the way - regarding the LP - "Love slipped..." is also on the 'Super pack' double album on Trip (TSX - 3506) this is the one I have, but I don't actually know which LP was out first...?
See this link for a bit of info about it: https://www.groovecollector.com/lpp/2/185/1...mpressions.html
I don't suppose anyone out there has any more info on this one?
-
of course it was originally played for the flip side.!! best 50p i ever spent..
Yep, I remember it first from the Snaith all dayers in the late 70's / early 80's period.
"Teacherman" definately wasn't the side played
50p eh... that's 3 or 4 times less than I paid in around 1983
Has It Got Train In The Title Then Its A Good Sound
in Look At Your Box

Well I can't say they'll be 'All time', but here's a few that spring to mind:
Come on Train - Don Thomas
Funky Train - Bill Black
Midnight train to Georgia - Gladys Knight & Pips
Midnight train to Georgia - Cissy Houston
Friendship Train - Gladys Knight & Pips
Breaking Training - Larry Brown
