  1. Hmmm...

Actually, I've mentioned this quite recently to someone on this thread - I first heard this song around 1970 and it was the GF version, I wasn't aware of Billie's original until a few years later.

So the one I bought at that time was.... yep Georgies! (Still got it)

Never did get around to picking up a copy of Billy's 'version' - but I do like them both really

Staying in the fence on this one I suppose...

  2. Is TMG 710 (solid centre) Do What You Gotta Do / Can't Seem To Get You Out Of My Mind a re-issue?

No one seems to have answered this one yet...

As far as I'm aware, this was only out once in the UK so no it's not a re-issue

In fact the flip side "Can't seem to get you..." wasn't released on a single in the States at all. I don't know how many other countries actually did release it though, but it would appear that at least Holland did.

Does anyone know of any other countries which released this song on a single?

  3. NOLAN PORTER- NO APOLOGIES (LIZARD) LP

TRY FINDING THIS ON EBAY...........£80....BUY IT NOW.... VG+ (GOT A SPARE COPY..THATS WHY IT'S FOR SALE)

    PM ME.PAYPAL OR CHEQUE.

    BRETT

What's so special about this then Brett?

I thought it was a live album?

  4. Yep, you're correct, Sean has the Australian issue - not a USA issue

A nice enough record, but I just tend to cringe a bit when that 'ooh ahh' bit comes along! :D

It just doesn't do anything for me at all... but the rest of it is fine.

    Anyone good at remixing?

  5. Bill Brandon -

I'd say it was in the region 1979 to 1980 when I seem to recall it getting spins.

I've no idea where you might hear it though...

I suppose you've already checked on Refosoul?

  6. Think we have all the info now guys :D

And whoever said 'Love has to grow' was their worst, I have to strongly disagree! I rate it as third out of all their Silver Blue released sides...........and one that would be a great side to slip into a forward thinking 70's set!

I think you'll find a smiley after that comment Steve - I reckon Sean was just kidding!

Anyway, speaking of French releases - I know of another one which was released over there:

Living together is keeping us apart / I didn't know

I quite like the flip side of this, a nice Lew Kirton lead ballad - not might I add, on the US Promo copies - you need the stock copy for this side

  7. Just sorting out some albums , a mate of mine gave me a copy of this just before xmas and completely forgot I had it !

Does it get played as I have never heard it at a do ?

I see the album surfaces every now and again around the £20.00 mark, but what about the track ?

    Ta !

    g.gif

I have the LP as well, can't say as I've heard it played out though, but I have seen it on the odd playlists a few years back.

"Brown eyes" is also on a 45, but they don't turn up too often.

I quite like the track

  8. Don't I have this on UK Polydor? unsure.gif

    Sean

If you don't, then I definately do have one - in fact I've had a few spares on Polydor

But as already mentioned, the Silver Blue issue is probably the harder of the 4 releases by them on the label. The only one I don't have on a US copy - might I add!

But I certainly wouldn't pay silly money for a copy :wicked:

Invitations They say the girl's crazy / For your precious love SILVER BLUE 801

Invitations Lets love (And find together)` / Love has to grow SILVER BLUE 804

Invitations Living together is keeping us apart / I didn't know SILVER BLUE 809

Invitations Look on the good side / Pt2 SILVER BLUE 818

Anyway - here's a scan of the 45 in question:

    post-5094-1243984794_thumb.jpg

    The side I prefer anyway!

  9. Thanks for that John. Funnily enough I seem to have to 45s you don't! The Dimension 45 is maybe Bobby's best pure soul record, great Sam Cooke-influenced big city deep soul in the mould of Bobby Harris, Hoagy Lands etc. The second Warners single is pleasant Muscle Shoals pop-soul: a lot like 'Something New To Do' in approach but without being the killer song that Phillip Mitchell came up with in SNTD. As I mentioned above the other Capitol 45, 'Shelter' is a worthy beat ballad without being spectacular.

    Thanks Gareth,

I've done a quick bit of surfing and there appears to be only a couple more he released under his own name:

"How Many Nights" / "How Can We Ever Be Together" (Liberty #55459) (1962)

"My Shoes Keep Walking Back To You" / "I Want You For My Sweetheart" (Dimension #1043)

I have actually seen these listed before but guess they may be too early 'R&B' sounding rather than soul - but I could be wrong.

Anyway, I also should mention for those who don't know it, Bobby's part in the Coasters song on Bobby's own label Salsa Picante - an LP track from 1979 called "Love is a funny thing" - Bobby sang lead on this song, which is quite nice too

    The album is called "Coasting"

  10. To add to the Bobby Sheen discussion, I sometimes wonder if there's any others by him worth having?

The ones I know of are:

Sheen,Bobby She taught me what love really is / I don't have to dream CAPITOL 2507

Sheen,Bobby Dr Love / Sweet sweet love CAPITOL 5672

Sheen,Bobby The way of love / The shelter of your arms CAPITOL 5984

Sheen,Bobby Love stealing / Come on and love me CHELSEA 3034

Sheen,Bobby My shoes keep walking back to you / I want you for my sweetheart DIMENSION 1043

Sheen,Bobby I may not be what you want / Something new to do W BROS 7662

Sheen,Bobby If ever I dreamed I hurt you / It ain't easy being your fool W BROS 7701

    Sheen,Bobby Don't make me do wrong / Payback W BROS 7732

The red ones I have (although the last WB single isn't anything special) - Jordi mentioned 'The shelter...' as being OK.

Agreed about "She taught me..." nice tune it is!

Are there any others - either listed above, or missing, that's worthy of picking up??

    Cheer!

  11. Great tune and THE version,

 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BETTER THAN GARLAND GREEN

    BRI PINCH.

I hope that was a sarcastic comment Bri? wink.gif

I have to say that IMHO Garland Green is way better.

    Although I don't dislike LJS - I don't think it's quite 'THE version'

But to each his own and all that!

    (sorry Fraser...)

  12. THERE WAS ALSO A VERSION THAT CAME OUT ON UK JAM LABEL AS WELL. BUT NAME ESCAPES ME. THATS FOUR DIFFERENT ONES. ANYMORE????? CARL DOUGLAS BEST VERSION FOR ME

    DAVE

    Really Dave??

Can you remember who it's by - I'm not aware of one...

You're not confusing it with that version of Ron Keith - "Can't live without you" done on Jam by the Jesters?

I thought I was greedy having Carl Douglas on UK Pye and US 20th Century (demo)!!

But back on topic - I also have the Newby & Johnson UK 1st issue which has "I want to give you..." as the A side. I can still remember it getting re-issued and reading the review in B&S which mentioned the 'flip' side being popular 'up north'
