  1. I think you'll find Phillip is her Brother - As is Milton: All about Phillip Wright. Now known as "Simply Phillip", an Entertainer since the age of 7 years old, Phillip joined his Mother Rosa Akins Wright, who organized a family singing group with her six children while she played the guitar, and naming them the Echoes of Joy, a Gospel singing Group. The family performed in Miami as the Host Children's Group whenever there was a Gospel Concert held in Miami during the 1950's. They also performed in other Genres over the State of Florida. Later learning to play the guitar and changing to performing in Night clubs with a calypso band, Phillip's first Night Club Performance was at the Knight Beat Club in Miami at the Sir John Hotel. As guitarist with a calypso band called the Downbeats. Phillip began touring with Commedian Flip Wilson in 1957. He also played guitar for Sam Cooke, Chubby Checker, Hank Ballard, Jerry Butler, the Chiffons, and many more known Recording Artists. As the years passed and maturity set in, Phillip begin performing as a guitarist with King Curtis and the Kingpins, with Cissy Houston and the Sweet Inspirations, Erma Franklin, Junior Walker and the All stars, Joey Garcia and the Greatful Dead, Jimmi Hendrix, Patti Labelle, Sonny and Cher, Jimmy Ruffin, the Perfections, Dee Dee Warwick, and Screaming Jay Hawkins. In the earlier years he played guitar with his brother Charles Wright's band called the Afro Beats. Phillip grew up in Miami, Florida and Boston Massachusetts. He also recorded with his other brother Judge Milton Wright Jr. who can be heard on 2 albums. One of those albums is still a big hit in Europe that is called "Friends and Buddies". Phillip recorded with his sister the Super Star Performer, Writer, and Producer Ms. Betty Wright. As well, he recorded with KC and the Sunshine Band that included his other sister Ms. Jeannette Wright. Phillip has had an extremely long and successful career in the Entertainment Field. Now ready for the world to listen to his first Contemporary Gospel Jazz Cd called "Simply Phillip". https://www.myspace.com/simplyphillip Pictured above is Milton Wright & Phillip Wright
  2. I've never heard it played out, but understand it's been or still is popular in Europe? Last price I remember was over 100 UKP I don't particulaly like it myself though, much prefer Dee Ervin or Chuck Jackson
  3. Ha ha... so have I... and one of the issues too Not certain which variant the issue is though!
  4. Love the Ike Noble - 'Deep with a beat' - as someone once said!
  5. Well, I suppose it's got a bit more substance than a mis-titled download from iTunes hasn't it
  6. That reminds me I have a copy of the Adorables on Golden World - "Ooh boy" / "Devil in his eyes" which plays the Four Tops - "Ain't that love" / "Lonely summer" Which was a 1965 Columbia re-issue of a 1960 release. It took years to work out what it really was as it doesn't sound like the Four Tops as we know them! [Dave Flynn finally traced it via the matrix no ZSP 110951 / 2] Maybe this could be the start of a new form of collecting?
  7. Yes, I have to agree, I first heard it via a Manship 'new releases' tape in the early 8o's, picked up the LP long before I came across the 45. I just doesn't seem to turn up does it! BTW Steve W - I still quite like the flip side to 'Cisselin Hot' - "Do you believe" ...nice!
  8. Me too - Ask if he's got any photos from when they recorded the song, that would be good
  9. Here's my NZ copy - a 7" by the way: This will be the second release I think
  10. Very reminiscent of a James Brown 'warm up' thing - the sort of tune the band would do before the main act comes on. Pretty so so for me though - I wouldn't go dashing up to the decks to find out what it was Sorry Ken, but that's just my opinion
  11. I thought Munchkin said in post no 3 that the Columbia copy was a different cut? Surely that means Direction copies (if any) would be the same? But don't know for sure do I?
  12. That yellow 'Boot' of Eddie Rey, I had a listen to it a while back and it is a completely different recording of the song. It even has a different song on the A side. The auction page I saw it on even stated it was an alternate version or something. Maybe it is something unissued that they've come across - that's assuming it's not just another release on Prix that's not known of? Not having checked a Prix listing, I don't know for sure if the number they use is part of the series or not. Does anyone know for certain it's not just a different release that's turned up? Just curious...
  13. Think you may be right Bri There's a European on Gemm on CBS 3359 - maybe that's it? Bit pricey though! https://www.gemm.com/item/CHAMBERS--BROTHERS---d---LES/TIME--HAS--COME--TODAY/GML943985468/
  14. I've got that album on UK Direction. I seem to think the title track was on a Direction 45 - If so maybe it's on the other side? PS - I haven't a clue what the track sounds like, I haven't played that LP in over 25 years!
  15. Isn't the reason for the price rise somewhat due to the interest created by the funk scene & Keb D?
  16. That sort of ties in with what I attempted to say earlier Cheers Martyn!
  17. Bobby Dukes demos on Calla are Instrumental both sides - just be careful! Saru is OK though
  18. Can't really put them in any order, but for me it has to include: Soul Essence, Just Soul, Horse & Groom, Red Bar.
  19. Hmmm. well I definately had it 'in the box' at Pitches, could even be the one who played it when you were there? But seeing as I first heard it on that LP as I said above - I can't imagine being surprised at someone telling me that they'd not heard it since '74... But that was a few years back so I couldn't swear to it ...It may not have been me either Anyway, no worries whatever. "Love don't hurt people" - If I remember rightly, wasn't the other version by Sharon Brown? I think I have a UK picture sleeve copy of it, but forget the label off hand - Virgin maybe?. Speaking of Cissy, there's a few nice things she did on EMI and also Private stock as I recall "Love is holding on" being one. I also have a bit of a soft spot for another of her Janus things "I'm so glad I can love again" Yep she's got a great voice and she's even better when she has the right songs!
  20. Thanks a lot Bob 1st hour downloaded, second one on it's way Just need to find enough time to listen to it...
  21. I think I have one... can't think what it's like though. Nor where I put it
  22. Missed this one! There's one or two I haven't heard on the show - is there a download for it Bob?
  23. Lovely tune it is! - I also first came across it via the same compilation album, later picked up the Album by Cissy with the track on - on UK Major Minor, (which actually came out before the Pye release Ken, as you'll no doubt know) Commonweath records being released over here at the time by Major Minor, later the LP was released on Pye, then of course the 45 also on UK Pye. The 45 I picked up for about 50p at Mr Dewhurst's old haunt - Cleethorpes Pier Not being a 'stomper' so to speak, it wasn't regarded as anything special by the average all nighter goer / seller during the mid 70's period. I then 'forgot' all about it until as Mr Plumb states, when it got plays during the 90's. I also wondered about the Cissy / Dusty connection Ian...'Cissy's revenge' - sounds good to me!
  24. Jason, He's referring to an article John did with a magazine called "Big Daddy" I don't know if there's an online version knocking around though - unless someone has scanned it at sometime? ............................. ....Not quite fast enough was I?
