But - I don't ever recall hearing it played out anywhere, no doubt it will have been somewhere though. So can anyone tell me if it was ever played anywhere in the past, maybe something like the rare groove scene perhaps? LP only I assume....?

You should be able to download it and convert it to go on the ipod using Real Player Also I think you can edit it first if you want so you just get the bits you want... Cancel that bit - it's been disabled for this one, I just tried Great stuff Bob - thanks for sharing it!

What Ivor...? My assumption is correct but your purple copy is sytrene or did you mean vinyl? Anyway, for the 'record' my copies of SS&W and Gloria Walker are most definately both purple and vinyl I'm not sure about the Sweet Charles & Lynn Collins just yet though - until I find them out.

I think it's about time you stopped letting your son do everything for you and try and do it yourself! But seriously Mark, I first heard it back in the late 90's (can't recall it at Parkers though) but that guitar just puts me right off I'm afraid. I'll have a listen to the 'edited' version - it's got to be a vast improvement for me at least!

Cheers Brian! That's confirmed who wrote about it. Just need to find out - if possible that is - what country the 45 I found originates from? Once more, has anyone ever come across any ABC 45s on a label like this one before? Cheers!

Here's a few more pictures to go with this, the Japanese Malaco album: "Hold on" I've also got that Tommy Yates Verve 45, if I can find it, plus 3 on Sundance, "School of life", "We don't" and maybe some others. If no one does it first, I'll have a look for them and scan them.

Thanks for that Mike I have a couple of 45s by them since sometime between the late 70's to mid 80's. But this one I only heard recently - even though I'd made a note of it some years back. Anyway, I wouldn't say it's the best thing I'd ever heard or anything, but it's not bad either. But the other reason for asking was that I 'found' this the other week: Note the slight mis-spelling in the title - I don't have a clue as to what country it's from, it's just as the scan, black & white, no colour in the logo as it would be if it were a UK release, for example. Anyone ever seen this style label beore to give me an idea where it's from, South Africa maybe? It doesn't appear to be on any US or UK 45 as far as I can tell either...

Back in the distant past, I read a review about a tune by the group Tribe on ABC The track in question is called "Real and really for real" on the LP "Eat tribe" I made a note of this at the time but can't now remember where I read it or who reviewed it. Does anyone know anything about this track? Cheers

Thanks for that guys So it does seem that the red labels could be Styrene whereas the blue / purple ones are vinyl? I suppose that's possible, but no doubt someone will turn up some the opposite way Also, yes I did realise I'd missed out the Gloria Walker 45 from the list of exceptions to the 'funky' rule - if you get what I mean Any more thoughts / additions welcome BTW...

I bought a copy like this not long after hearing it at the Mecca, it was only just starting to get big at that time. Certainly not big enough for there to be a demand enough for it to be booted. I seem to think it's got a Bell Sound stamp, but would have to dig it out to be certain. If you have a look in the 'Sharp end of Vinyl' section of this part of the forum, I seem to think it's been discussed before complete with the different variants released.

It most likely is yours Mal - I've a feeling it might have appeared on 'Soul Talk' - I hope you didn't think I was trying to 'steal your glory' I just recalled the picture was on my pc and thought it fitted the post at that moment. The other acetate scans you've posted are very nice also mate

Thanks Gareth, yes, I did have a feeling there would be others on that label, it's just that I'd not actually noticed it before. Yep, also as you say - it's a very different record to most others on that label. In fact off hand I can only think of a couple of others that stand out: Sweet Charles "Why can't I be treated like a man" and Lyn Collins "Wide awake in a dream".... but that's probably a different topic I suppose Any other thoughts while the anorak is out - which colour is more common for example?

Yep - you're right with the flip side I just did a quick check, Blue Rock 4061 - Don't Go Away / Just Say The Word Smash 2127 - Don't Go Away / I'm Getting Nearer To Your Love This was the other I was thinking about: Smash 2160 - You Don't Love Me No More / I'm Hip To Your Game No wiser as to which actually came out first though

I don't know for a fact, but always assumed the Smash release was after Blue Rock, not before. Wasn't it the flip side of "You don't love me no more" (or the other way round?) (Not mine might I add)

I'd not noticed this until recently, but there are two different label colours for this release (probably other releases like this also I guess) One is red, the other a bluey purple. I just wondered if there was any particular reason for it, later issue / different pressing plant etc. Is one more common than the other? Any ideas?
