OK Benji, that's fair enough - you better also leave Billy Cole out also due to the Jamaican release.
Wasn't Salena Jones released in 1970? (I'd have to check to be certain)
Maurice McCormick & Maggi - The Reeaall Deeaall
I have this on a UK label, Charly I think - wasn't there also a German release of this?
-
Yes, there's probably more yet, but I also suspect some of the things such as released on UK Contempo & Pye might not be what Benji means - maybe more like less well known artists recorded in Europe as opposed to the UK?
...I think maybe not meaning Major Lance, JJ Barnes, Jimmy James etc. - if you get my drift?
It can get a bit difficult to tell one from another I reckon.
Or are these also OK to mention Benji?
-
I guess you can also add:
Billy Cole - "Extra careful" on UK Power Exchange & Jamaican Recreational and Educational Enterprises
Chants - "I've been trying" on UK Chipping Norton
Clem Curtis - "Point of no return" - UK Pye
Clem Curtis - "Sweet Happiness" - UK Riverdale
Joe Bourne - "You are magnificent" - K-Tel Holland
Main Ingredient - "Everything man" - UK & Jamaican Power Exchange and also French Eurodisc
Major Lance - "Don't you know I love you" - UK Contempo
Marcia Hines - "You gotta let go" - Italian Dig It and Australian Wizard
Salena Jones - "Am I the same girl" - UK & Dutch CBS
Viola Wills - "Day in the life of a woman" - UK Goodear (2 versions)
Dwight Thompson was also on German Red Point as well as Poker which was released in Holland
The Pioneers on Ice wasn't a US release Wayne, just another UK issue after the Mercury 45
...Phew!

Just be aware there's two different 7" releases of this, one is a remix and not the 'preferred' LP version.
You really need to have the 'juke box' copy which is an edited version of the the LP mix. I'm not certain if this was on general release though...?
I can't see this one listed on Gemm just now.
Maybe why the higher price was mentioned?
-
Sounds like it could be this one by Hodges, James, Smith & Crawford - "I'm in love" on Mpingo records:
-
Thanks Zane Almost forgot to reply!
All we need now is Steve's playlist - if he did one that is
-
As far as I'm aware, it's CD only...?
-
Hmm, the download link's not quite working.
It's like Groundhog day - it just keeps redirecting back to the download screen after the 15 second wait!
Any ideas?
-
It would be nice if you could post the link on here also Steve, not everyone can see it on EMS - only members can see the Solar Radio section.
Zane did start posting them on here, but just lately he's not posted any.
Otherwise, Steve Plumb does post some of them on his site... eventually!
I did catch the last 45mins of the show, so it would be nice to hear the bit I missed
-
i thought they were all made in the uk and exported out with differant country credits or something like that !
What makes you think that then?
-
Cheers pal, if I've still got it i'll try and scan the article.
It's been already posted on here Chalky - Around March 25th 2010, there were 6 PDF files, one for each page. John Reed posted them, but it shouldn't be hard to find.
If for some reason they've 'gone' - I'll upload them .
Just looked and still there, post 223
-
Someone once told me there were two releases for this LP in the Uk?
Can anyone confirm this and maybe explain the differences?
-
Just noticed the typo with the spelling of Detroit in the groups name - and I've got that EP but never noticed it before!
I think you're right Blake about this being the only 7" format for this - I'm surprised Mr Plumb never mentioned it before.
-
I first heard it when Richard Searling played it on his (then) radio show in Sheffield - Radio Hallam. This would have been around 1983 / 1984 making it a recent release at the time.
But I agree it would have been the Parkers period when it became more well known via Dean
-
Well I've found my copies out to find they're all now listed above!
Looks like the only ones I'm missing are the Ultimate Truth # 275 & the last (?) one by 8 Miles High # 350.
All I can add to this at present is that the labels on numbers 250 and 300 I have are blue and numbers 225 and 325 are red.
Plus the label was connected with Paul Kyser, but no doubt our man in New Jersey, Greg Tormo may know more about this?
So here's the up to date listing as it stands:
J CITY JC.225 - LITTLE JIMMY BRISCOE & THE BEAVERS - TOGETHER TOGETHER / SAME INSTR.
J CITY JC.250 - JIMMY CHANDLER - I CAN'T TURN YOU LOOSE - JIM JAM
J CITY JC.275 - ULTIMATE TRUTH - TAKE A LITTLE TIME / HOOKED ON LOVE
J CITY JC.300 - ULTIMATE TRUTH - I`VE GOT THAT LOVIN` FEELIN' / JIM--JAM
J CITY JC.325 - DEVOTIONS - SO GLAD YOU`RE HOME / THE DAWNING OF LOVE.
J CITY JC.350 - 8 MILES HIGH - 8 MILES HIGH / ALLS WELL THAT ENDS WELL

Thanks for the link Sean!
I only caught the second hour 'live' so will look forward to hearing it all the way through.
Hope you didn't have too much trouble in the 'cockpit' this time

Me and the missus look like going to Bletchley, near Milton Keynes next Saturday (12th) to take my daughter, who's doing a course over the weekend.
So I was just wondering, rather than go all the way back up to South Yorkshire then come back on Sunday afternoon - is there anything going on in that area?
I was thinking along the lines of staying somewhere overnight, so as long as it's not a long way away from there, say within a 20 miles (ish) radius - we could maybe get somewhere to stay nearby, then call back on the Sunday afternoon to pick her up again.
I've had a look on the events calendar, but can't see anything obvious, so if anyone knows of anything or can let me know, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks in advance!

I've got the LP - somewhere, if any more info is needed, let me know and I'll see if I can find it.
-
I've got those two, plus maybe a couple more.
Can't say as I've ever seen a listing for the label so it would be nice to see one.
If no one comes up with anything, I'll dig the others out for you.

Don't think it's on a UK 45 - maybe an LP but I don't recall one?
-
Which is a totally different version than the UK Contempo release which I would highly recommend.
You really need the issue of 'Don't You Worry' for the awesome deep flip 'Try To Leave Me If You Can'. Like many valuable records these days , a last hour spin at the Mecca that I picked up for 85p as a new release.
Hmm, really Mike - can't say as I'd noticed, got both of the Quality singles as demos and of course the Contempo release which I bought only for the sublime "Try to leave me..." but that was back in the late 70's / early 80's(?) when Mr Hampsey first stuck it on a tape for me.
You didn't mention that this is actually on the other side of the Contempo release of "Baby you know how to get to me", so I'll just mention it so others realise they can pick it up without the need for a Quality issue copy - although that's still a great double sider!
-
Yes it was that track, I was listening to the show.
Agreed as Dave said, copies are around and not particularly expensive - I picked up a Burdette promo a few years or so back.
Don't know what the flip side's like though as it's a same both sides copy!
Here's a scan of the issue copy:
Here's a few copies for sale: https://www.gemm.com/ddc/search.pl?&disp_ad_format_mode=0&artist=SPRINGFIELD+RIFLE&price_above=%2E001&&title=THAT'S+ALL+I+REALLY+NEED&price_above=%2E001&&mi=8761299|111267731|111298487|1436399426

Sorry, Jackie Wilson was on the US LP, so can't count
But what about Thelma Houston's "Nothing left to give" - not on the US Mowest LP but was on the UK and German releases?
Also:

Jimmy James & the Vagabonds - "Want you so much" - UK Pye
Jimmy James & the Vagabonds - "A man like me" - UK Stateside
