  1. I seem to think there's 2 LPs by Jackie Wilson where Jeff is involved, "Beautiful Day" & another one which I can't remember. I must dig them out and see what else is on them as I think there's one or two more gems on them worth a mention.
  2. How about Jeff's other 45 on Arista "Unforgettable person"?
  3. I've got the Soul-Po-Tion 119 release which has "You can depend on that" on the flip. Just compared the '226' one on Steve's site - now sold by the way, it sounds the same to my ears. Errr - 'Rings...' doesn't do a lot for me I'm afraid!
  4. So... is "Praise him" a different song? Just curious as you said it isn't on the album.
  5. I used to listen to a few of those South Yorkshire stations - early 90's I think? I forget the names now, but seem to recall they were a bit hit and miss as in you never quite knew when they would be transmitting. Nemesis from Clowne - wasn't that Neil Page? I seem to remember hearing he was involved, but don't think I ever heard it. I remember hearing a lot of the rare groove things played on one station, but I was thinking it was a Sheffield based one?
  6. The 'A' side is "I come to praise him" - is that the one you meant? That side is on a US 45 by the way.
  7. Well after hearing it - the 'jingle remix' that is, I also thought it was more early 70's. The production and instrumentation certainly lean that way to my ears at least! But there's still nothing wrong with it...
  8. Shades of Na Allen "Thanks for nothing" in the intro... but that's no bad thing I'll be tuned into Steve's show tomorrow for the full but no doubt 'jingled' version! Chalky - Steve usually does a download for his shows, at some point - you just need to keep on at him :-)
  9. As this has been mentioned in another discussion, I thought i better add it here also, The Stovall Sisters "Yes to the lord" on an Argentinian single:
  10. Strictly speaking though, it is a single, but not a 45 as it plays at 33
  11. Here it is, pity about the marks on the label, but otherwise it looks and plays perfect!
  12. I never realised Tommy Hunt did it Robb, although I am aware of his Atlantic side "I don't want to lose you" which is the other side of "Hold on" - Until now I hadn't connected them as Van McCoy songs. 45 Cat has this down as a 1965 release, with Marvin Smith as a 1967 release.
  13. I'd have said either Sam or maybe John Manship at Cleethorpes, around 77 / 78 ish? But off hand I can't be certain.
  14. This is the only one I know of, who else did it?
  15. No Steve, I didn't miss it at all - I thought I'd come across it a few years back, but couldn't find any proof when I looked. But I finally happened across one on eBay last summer for less than ten dollars. I actually played it from the single last October during my Cotton Club set in Bilbao but surprisingly didn't get one 'bite' - no doubt they were all too drunk at the time! I'll post up mine later - A white promo by the way!
  16. What about that Dionn single "Girl across the street" / "Try my love"? Was that a legit release, or some sort of bootleg? There's quite a few copies around, I thought they were from JamGuy records, but I'm not certain now.
  17. Have you had a look on Discogs for this? I think it shows the different variations, re-issues etc. It might just help you. Great track - a nice take on the Martha & Vandellas song!
  18. Not being a big instrumental fan, I remember getting a tape from John Manship in the late 70's with this on. Can't say as I recall hearing it played at that time though, maybe it was just 'bubbling under' as they say?
  19. Are you thinking of that Janus 45 by the Inclinations? I think that states that it's for release in Baltimore only.
  20. Cheers Dave, that looks about right. I picked one up last year but was a bit suspicious about it as it has looked as if it used to have a push out centre. I haven't come across any like that so wasn't sure about it. The label does look the same as the Independents 45 on 45cat - I forgot they have other countries releases nowadays. I might get the label scanned some time as I can't say as I've come across one yet.
  21. Just another addition to this, I believe that Patti's "Make me believe in you" got a release in Holland. Can anyone confirm if it was a release from when the record first came out, or was it a much later release - or even a 'dodgy' release?
  22. Wasn't the mono side played on AM stations also something to do with it sounding better somehow? I forget now, but seem to think I read something along those lines at some point.
  23. This was part of a box set of singles, as you may know. The set was also put out as a promos as well as the stock copies that you could get in the shops. I can remember seeing the promo set for sale not long after it was released - I've no idea what the price was though! I did find a stock copy of this single many years later though, it cost a couple of quid or so!
  24. Jordi just beat me to it, while reading through the Red Kelly blog. A great two sider indeed by Len Wade, the official A side "Whatcha gonna do" is also not to be missed
  25. Jenmark 104 - Dennis Lee & The Notables - Funky Penguin / ? - ? Dave, the flip side to this one is "Sunday afternoon" - that side was on two singles, this and no 106
