  1. I remember first hearing this on a tape (from John Manship?) around the late 70's or very early 80's and it was not listed as David Rhodes, it was a hand written track list and not easy to make out the artist at that time, so I thought it was Denny Leake for some years until I got to know more about it  :D

  2. I paid more than that for mine.......BUT IT'S ORIGINAL

                                        Alan

I paid £2 for mine.... And it's an original!

mind you it was around 1974 and the boots at that time were those dull red ones!

Those were the days, when originals were offloaded for a pittance as soon as they were booted

  3. Have you contacted him and asked about the 'crack', where it's supposed to be?

I guess you would have done, but you haven't mentioned if you got a reply about it.

It does seem odd that someone would go to that trouble to return a record, unless he changed his mind after buying it perhaps?

  4. As soon as I saw "love hustle" in the playlist it had to be RW.

I'd gone over to the east coast, venue wise, when the Pier opened, but in 1978 a mate came round to borrow some records to tape.

After he'd about got enough for this time (he made about 5 / 6 visits) he started looking through some bits I'd put to one side which were market stall 'blind buys' - he picked up a copy of Love Hustle and said that it was getting plays at Wigan by RW.

I said are you sure it's that record, not something else? He then played it on the record player and confirmed it was that one.

That convinced me not to rush back for another visit in the near future!

Agreed though, the pop aspect was spreading almost everywhere for the next few years!  :excl:

  5. Read all about it here:

    Here's a few of them:

    Rita Lee Charay 101

    Robert Thomas Charay 87

Cresa Watson [AKA Carolyn Sullivan] Charay 90

Men From Macon [AKA Bobby Skel & The Red Ryders] Charay 89
  6. I guess the question about the orange copy is more related to the artist, if it's credited to The Inspirations, it's original. If it's Charles Diamond (and the label is orange) then I can't be sure as I've only seen those on a pink label.

Has anyone got a scan of the Charles Diamond release with an orange label?
